The Making of Dreamland Page 06…
Modelling…
The talented artists who can sculpt digitally…
It amazes me how these artists are able to take Karen’s drawings and turn them into 3 dimensional characters.
I can tell you from experience…it is NOT easy. I would have saved tens of thousands of dollars had I been able to do this. Really.
I’m going to try and find these guys’ pages to link to. But in the meantime. I just hope you enjoy seeing the work they put into these characters.
On another note…
Thank you guys SO much for all of your support. All day long I got messages and posts on this blog saying you’d wait.
I really appreciate that.
The truth is. I don’t want to wait…ha ha.
I LOVE seeing these pages go up. I love hearing your reaction to the story.
The whole story…all 24 chapters has been plotted out for over 6 years now. The writing is easy.
The art…not so much.
But these characters really write themselves. They’re alive now. The world they live in has rules and history…it’s just a dream (excuse the pun) to work with them.
Anyways. What I’m saying is…I want you to read Chapter 13 sooner rather than later.
Yes…my life is hectic. Who’s isn’t?
Yes the comic is free. But you know what? THat doesn’t mean I can’t be professional about it.
I’m working hard and I will be working on the first pages next week. It should be fun.
Oh…and another update…
There are more paintings up on Ebay. For those of you who like to purchase original art.
And if you didn’t know…I’m donating a percentage of all the sales to the CHildren’s Diabetes Fund. So you can feel good that you’re helping kids out as well.

I’ve finally caught up with the reading, and all I can say is I love everything about this story. The plot, characters, art…wonderfully done! I can’t wait to see more!
Amazing stuff, keep up the great work!
I never knew Nastajia had such a nice butt
she needs to wear a cape less often 😛
yep feature film is right this thing deserves to be a moovie!
Is that modeling done with maya? Looks like nurbs models, but I can be mistaken there.
scott … scott, being professional doesn’t mean one has to deprive oneself of a well deserved break, you know? take it easy, man. 😉
wow! the making of dreamland portion is really something else!
its nice to see how the great comic we read is made, its really inspiring to see how much hard work was put into it!!
also, great attitude on how “its free but it doesn’t mean i can’t be professional about it”
You should REALLY think about making this a movie!! I mean…come ON!!! The story is GREAT…the 3D graphics are film worthy, and it’s just PERFECT for the movie business!!!! O_O
You’ve spent tens of thousands of dollars making this comic? Wow. You deserve to have any movie made with these characters become successful just to recoup that investment. Let alone that I’d love to see such a film. I’m a kid at heart.
I love seeing when characters are created digitally in 3-D. It’s especially interesting to me right now because I’ll be learning about it soon, I’m going to try and learn to use the “Blender.” ;p *ha, I’m gonna need a LOT of practice*
And I’m glad you can’t wait to share the next chapter with us–it shows a love of your comic, and a love of having it appreciated by those who enjoy it. *which we all certainly do!* 😀
Wow…. As a web-comic artist’s second hand, I am in awe of the number of “second” hands you have there. Most of us do it with one or two people, and you have enough to call it a team!!! No wonder it’s so amazingly well crafted! I’m going to see if we can get a filler strip to you, but no guarantees, as the artist is on extended hiatus. Thanks again for the fabulous story!
O_o tens of thousands of dollars??? Holy cow! What a true labor of love for you. And we are all extremely grateful.
Thanksh also for sharing the making-of panels with us, it’s awesome to see how everything has come together.
Guys, I think by “tens of thousands of dollars” he means over his career. He has done a bunch of other stuff, you know.
For my new school carriere stuff I need to be able to draw and make 3D stuff, going for game designer ^^
so who knows we’ll be able to make a game out of this too, and not only a movie!!
hey, this behind the scenes stuff is just as fascinating as the comic to me, keep it up, and take as long as you need 🙂
Thanks for the inspiration, Scott! I was wondering if I was wasting my time learning 3D, but from what I read here maybe I’m on the right track. I’m glad you have a team helping you. It’s a bear doing a webcomic by yourself.
Scott, it sounds like you already made your decision… “The truth is. I don’t want to wait…ha ha.” I think that is a big part of what makes this so great; your enthusiasm jumps off the page and fills everyone who read it!!!
ENOUGH!!! we want to get back to the story!!
Elf Girl has nice buns , does that make me a pervert?
sooo um why does she have wedgy bum and he is like an anatomical ken doll..no fair he should be a wedgy bum too
love the story, i was very disappointed when i started at the beginning and made it to the end…
well ok i loved it but… it ended….
yeah i admit you are my new comic addiction
i understand the need for a break and i am thankful for it, don’t want you to burn out
your work is fantastic and the story is great, would need a few more details and twists where it to be a movie, but it would be worth it
wish i could help, would be interesting to learn your trade or offer up story ideas
Thank you for donating to help find a cure for diabetes. I love your comic and appreciate what you are doing. My daughter has type 1 diabetes and everyday is filled with a kind of fear I can not adequately describe. I almost lost her 6 years ago, so every day with her is a blessing.
I know exactly what you mean by characters having a life of their own– I have a few that I also work with (although nothing professional!). But yeah– nice to see the models.
Hey Scott,
I have to say that I was already a fan of the comic but now that I know you support Diabetes research I’m a fan of you. My wife is Diabetic and Kia’s letter rings true. Monica and I are waiting 1 more year to have kids and when the time comes I want them to be as healthy as possible. Diabetes runs on my side of the family as well so its always a concern. If you ever put on a group funraser make sure to let me know.
P.S. Kia I will keep your daughter in my nightly prayers.
Keep up the good work,
Bryan King
i am also amazed at how much money, on top of all the insane amounts of time you’ve invested in this. and i also hope that you get a movie deal. you deserve it.
re: ebay pics, i guess you didn’t do wonder woman then? you’ve had sketches of her up for sale before…
Oh wow, for some reason I thought you modeled your own characters and for that I was really impressed, because I’m a 3D animation major in art school and modeling really is complicated and takes a lot of time! I can totally understand why you get other people to do it. Sometimes, I just got soooo frustrated with it, but I suppose that’s why I’ve decided to focus more on the animation aspect instead of the modeling from now on. This is an awesome comic…it’s so cool to find out how it’s produced.
In gterms of the wedgy bum question, her pants are cloth, his are steel.
amazing story line … just found it today and spent the afternoon evening reading, devouring…
Just a thought … what if you updated only 3 or 4 times a week would that not give you more time?
I would also like to throw in my vote for more capeless Nastajia!! Excellent webcomic cant get enuf!
