Page 861…
Well…here we are.
After a few weeks off (thank you all again for letting me rest my spine injury) we’re back in the saddle, so to speak.
For the next couple weeks we’ll be doing M,W,F. But once I get enough pages…we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled 5 days a week through the rest of the year.
By that time…we’ll have hit both the 900 page and 1000 page milestones.
A LOT of dialog and things explained in this chapter. Had to happen to set up all the action coming up in the next few chapters.
Thanks again for your patience, well wishes, prayers, and everything.
Here we go!
Scott
Fly, Alex!
Man,… talk about your cliff hangers…
Nothing starts off a chapter like a good cliff hanger…
Centaur: “Tank, load the jump program”
Most happy to see you back. Don’t strain yourself, take as long as you need to.
Think happy thoughts Alex…and a parachute won’t hurt either ;p
Haha I did NOT see that coming. (Silly of me, I know)
Wile E. Coyote has nothing on this guy
Great to know you’re on the mend, Scott. Please don’t overdo it.
Tip to Alex (according to the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy)
“There is an art, or rather a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss. … All it requires is simply the ability to throw yourself forward with all your weight and the willingness not to mind that it’s going to hurt.
That is, it’s going to hurt if you fail to miss the ground. Most people fail to miss the ground, and if they are really trying properly the likelihood is that they will fail to miss it fairly hard. Clearly it’s the second point, the missing, which presents the difficulties. One problem is that you have to miss the ground accidentally. It’s no good deliberately intending to miss the ground because you won’t. You have to have your attention suddenly distracted by something else when you’re half-way there so that you’re no longer thinking about falling, or about the ground, or about how much it’s going to hurt if you fail to miss it.”
Whoot!
and i sense a disturbance in the force with all the oncoming ‘flying’ comments… and thus this page will fill up quickly! XD and now for mine. AHEM! ‘Cenatuar’: U must use the power of the… ‘Alex’: The force? ‘Cenatuar’: No, the Schwartz! “pushes him off the cliff”
XDXDXD and take care of that back, scott! i’m sure dreamland wouldn’t want u to get sidelinned like that again! XD
Uh, hope he isn’t afraid of falling. That would be a VERY BAD thing.
=^-^=
A matress at the bottom possibly…but then we’d have to calculate the x-trajectory and time…*pulls out an abacuss*
*laughs at Bloodseeks comment* So perfect…
happy thoughts and dont forget the pixie dust.
First star to the right and straight on till morning.
really I love the begaining and cant wait for more. *big big smiles*
Nice metaphor for jumping right back into the story, Scott. Of course, unlike Alex, you know you can fly already. π
Great “re-start”
caught me by surprise and I cracked up. That is such a perfect Alex comment.
hahahaha!! Poor Alex, he looks so bewildered.
And *laughs at Bloodseek’s comment too!* awesome.
LOL.
Hitchhikers, Spaceballs, Star Wars, and the Matrix quotes already (and it’s only 7:30am).
π
In case some of you aren’t following me on twitter…I mentioned a week ago that while finishing up the script for Chapter 14…I was trying to avoid too many similarities to these fine movies (and a few others that came to mind).
Sometimes it can’t be helped.
I think I avoided Peter Pan. Though I have to admit…I do quote The Matrix, Star Wars, and Wizard of Oz on one page.
It’s good to be back.
If the centaur were training more than one person, you would’ve seen yet another movie’s quote by now: “Fly, you fools!”
I think the movie reference here is “Lion King.” Centaur guy is going to lift up Alex, and the various Dreamland inhabitants assembled down in the valley will gaze up at him in awe.
Centaur: “One day, lad … all of this will be yours!”
π
And here I was hoping that we wouldn’t have any cliffhangers considering the 3-day-a-week format. Oh well. “Jump, Alex, Jump!”
Don’t think of it as flying, think of it as falling with style!
This was really fitting
Γ’β¬ΕSometimes you wake up. Sometimes the fall kills you. And sometimes, when you fall, you fly.Γ’β¬Β Neil Gaiman
You guys are so funny!
Here’s an old one…
“But I can’t swim!”
“Bwahahahaha!, Can’t swim? Hey! The FALL will probably kill ya!”
Anyone who knows where that is from gets the “Ole Fogey” award…
RG… I may date myself but Butch Cassidy and the sundance kid! AWESOME
I love falling. Falling is awesome. It’s one of the funnest/most thrilling things to do. Once I find a way around that sudden stop at the bottom, I’ll be falling ALL THE TIME. π
Great to have new pages, take it easy on the back. Keep up the incredible work.
Great Start! I can’t wait to read this whole chapter!
Got beat to every good qoute, awww. Very funny scene.
But have to say, love flying in dreams, never forgot how ever since I was a kid. But its now adays its just a way to get around.
Couldn’t wait to start again, eh? I know just how that feels. I’m a writer myself and when you get the itch to write about your world, there’s not much you can do about it. π
Good to see that you’re well on your way towards mended.
I wish I could be as observant as Alex!
@TheDeepDark: it’s already been discovered; it’s called getting into orbit. π Or, to paraphrase, if you fall fast enough, you’ll never hit the ground. π
*clap* Bravo! Managed to get a chuckle out of me with a single picture!
Quote from powerthirst 2: “If God gives you lemons, FIND A NEW GOD.” That is all I have to say.
Um, er, but, a question: How did we get from Nicole’s expression to the top of this cliff in Dreamland? I took the expression on Nicole’s face be what met Alex after he woke up, when told that he needed to learn to fly again! Or, does the initial page of this chapter elude that Nicole may figure heavily in it? I guess that we’ll see as it develops.
But, about you being horrible? NOT! Take care, Scott, we’ll see you when you feel better. Don’t worry about your fans more than your own health!
I’m guessing that the chapter’s title page isn’t the first page of the chapter, just an illustration π
Funny, funny people. Scott should make a poster of this pic with all those comments…
He’ll be fine as long as he catches a glimpse of some luggage he lost on a flight seven years ago ^^
lol if this happened before the time when he wasn’t in dreamland then i could see this happening:
kid- Mommy! mommy! i dreamed i was flying!
mom- Oh that’s such a good dream!
kid- Yeah! until i fell to my death on the rocks below…
mom-… oh
yeah u really should have had flying lessons
The real trick is in remembering that planets move through space at a very high speed. If you fall from a high enough location, then hopefully the planet will no longer be in that location to get in your way!
Nice start to the chapter, Scott, and glad to hear your back is improving.
hope he doesn’t mess up.
“Of course not, Alexander Carter. I would never _throw_ you. *shove* … Tsk… too much flailing. At least he has armor on. Cleanup is much easier.”
– Yet another outtake.
Would you trust a centaur with a dead critter on his noggin to keep your flying lesson from giving you splattery doom? In your dreams!
π Lovin’ every moment, Scott. Just take it easy, or else we’ll have to keep guessing how the rest of the story goes, and let’s face it, we’re not good guessers sometimes.
But Tavis, it IS in his dreams!
Welcome back, hope you’re feeling 100%.
Thank you guys for the laughs and well wishes.
Have a great night.
@Bloodseek Continueing but had to be added as sit in anticipation “So what if he makes it?” “No one’s ever made there first Jump.” I know I know. But what if he does?” “He Wont” “Cmon.” Cmon” ::Bites fingernails::
Oh and for some reason i feel a tremor in the force telling me that the jukebox is going to change soon… i dunno something to do with Seal or something to that effect… LoL
Great page to start back up with! I’m so excited! But remember…healed doesn’t usually mean healed. Keep resting it as much as you can, or else you could weaken/injure it again. But I’m sure you’ve heard that already! π
Great start to the new chapter!
Speaking of Veneyeth’s prediction of Seal in the Jukebox, what was the title of the Seal song that was played the first week the jukebox was added?
And what a way to come back Scott, wow!
There goes his hope for a few nice relaxing flying lessons π
Great opening line to the chapter– not everyday you get to say “You’re going to throw me off this cliff, aren’t you?” And, usually if you DO say it… Well, it’s usually not that funny.
Once he got the courage to jump, he’ll wake up…
Let me add a comment here about the sky – I really like the way the clouds are pitched to give the impression of a vast space stretching off towards the horizon.
If you trimmed the image to about the top third and removed the speech balloon, it’d make a great wallpaper.
Alex just needs to forget that he can’t fly, or that he is afraid of falling. Perhaps the armor will sprout wings?
That sky is the sun in repose.
Can’t stop laughing! This is such a wonderful openner! And all the great movie quotes are just icing on the cake! Wonderful!
please sai ‘yes’^^^ that would be so cool!!!:)
lol cliff hanger, literally
Ahahaha! Knew it! But um, have they got the landing down yet?
just wanted to say I love your comic!
I read it in infrequent bursts though, and I was wondering if you could put a back button up above the comic so that I don’t have the comic ruined for me while i’m scrolling down and hitting back to find my place π
-Hitchhiker’s Guide moment- Just hurl yourself at the ground and miss! MISS! If Arthur Dent could do it, Alex can too!
Pretty sad that in the future Orion has no choice but to throw him off.
Orion: “You have to let it all go. Free your mind.”
That is one awesomely beautiful sunset.
The secret to flying? We all know it. “Throw yourself to the ground, and miss.”
“Yes, yes we are”
air cliff the only way to fly !
HAHAHA hilarious start. Love it!
xD
Centuar: “It’s okay, this won’t hurt ”
Alex: “Are you sure, becaaaaaaaaa….”
Centuar: “… me.” while standing with one hoof in the air where Alex was standing.
Alex, meet gravity. Gravity, Alex. Play nice.
Can’t fly! Can’t fight! Can’t crow!
Orion did not reply. Instead, he solemnly grasped Alex by his waist and lifted him off the ground with ease. The centaur raised the human high over the cliff and struck a pose as the sun set behind them. Suddenly, in the distance a voice was heard: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4efZIHtiQQ
