Well…that’s it. That’s the end of Chapter 13.
Wow.
We’ve seen Bognok fight Nicodemus.
Met the Centaurs of Aethos.
Discovered Nicole’s childhood friend….Felicity.
And now we’ve seen the sword speak. Huh? HUH?
Wow.
I loved this chapter. Was SO much fun.
After doing this page yesterday…I thought….”I could do this a bit better”.
SO I did.

Anyways. As mentioned yesterday. I’m going to try and heal my back and also work on Chapter 14.
So starting Monday I’ll be putting up “Making of” pages.
I may do it 5 days a week. Or I may do it 3 days a week. I’ll see how things are on Monday.

I’m glad you redid this page – the final version has a tremendous amount of impact that was missing in the original.

Okay, this is the first time I really took notice of the design on the front of Alex’s armor. I look forward each day to another installment of the story.

Honestly, I like the previous version more. I’m not the one for drama and sorta. The previous one transported a kind of laconic coolness from the centaur – that works waaaay better for me. ^^ But tell you what – scott, it’s your story, you tell it the way you want. That I like the previous version more doesna mean I don’t like the new one. ^^
and besides: wooooot, scott on the mend, way to go! Take some time off, heal, have fun with your kids and *whisperwhisper*… your wife.
Definitely much more impact than the old version. Unfortunately though the lighting and mapping here makes the centaur look extremely plastic. Alex looks ok so I have a feeling it’s just the texture on the centaur’s skin. Just needs a bit of with tweaking the specular highlights 🙂
Wow… maybe I’m dumb but I never noticed the lion on his armor beating up the dragon.
As far as the lighting and all that goes honestly it all looks good to me, they both look great. Though, I have found it hard to take the centaur seriously with the thing on his head. It looks too cute to be a head dress lol.

I think 3 days a week would do just fine and that’ll make the “making of” pages last longer to ensure a good recovery.

And I agree; the revamped version has far more visual impact. It would likely be too dramatic for mid-chapter, but is a good note to end one on.

It’s going to be tough, but I think I might just be able to survive without DLC for a little while. But you have to keep a steady stream of facebook status updates so I can get me regular does of Sava-ness, otherwise I won’t make it. 🙂
On a completely different note, I was cruising BN.com and noticed most of your books up there, and the Felicity figure, but not the others. Why? Oh, and any chance of a hard cover version of the books? All the ones I saw on there were paperback. I figure if I’m going to buy books with artwork this beautiful in them, they need to be hardcover. Besides, how else are they going to survive long enough for my 7yr old son AND 2yr old daughter to both enjoy?

I agree with the choice to make the page more dramatic; very nice.
But with that comes a lot of anticipation! The whole gang has been held back by Alexander’s inability to fly. It’ll be fun to see how that goes as he re-learns.
Of course, your health comes first and I am glad that you’re taking an extended break from working on the comic. Enjoy your time off (more or less) – and thank you for sharing the comic with us thus far.

I think a lot of readers miss the point that Dreamland is NOT SUPPOSED to appear realistic! The work is designed with a children’s book in mind. Hence, the characters are SUPPOSED to have a doll-like, (or action figure if you prefer) quality. With this in mind, I’m surprised at how realistic these panels are. I think they have a beauty all their own, and the final page of this Chapter is a great example of that. The story and art style make a very powerful combination which is so unique and original, there is nothing like it on the web.

Yep, liked the new version better. I think the old one made the thing on the centaurs head look like some kind of deformed pig….
Also, I was thinking about the story at the begining, and how it was the “Kings” of old, with an emphasis on the plural of Kings. And that got me to thinking that maybe there were several adults who took turns wearing the sword necklace so that they could all help to protect Dreamland, while also having adequate time to do things in the real world that needed to be done…. Hmmmmm….
I really like the symbolism on Alex’s armor.

I love the way this page turned out! I think the other version is good and understated in a way that only drives the point home more, but I think that this page is the perfect ending to the chapter as opposed to just being an ordinary page. Good job, keep at it, and have a good rest!

Back to the Dwarves and Nicodemus, they must’ve put a real hurtin’ on that dragon. And, I’d expect that they will piece back together the tablet that Nicodemus smashed. That’s what dwarves do, they work with rock and stone, so that, and having Rognok seen that, it will be a tribute to the forefathers to rebuild what the usurper has torn asunder.
The second panel also provides better symbolism for what Orion is telling Alex, so good on ya! Moreover, flyin’ for the hero of Dreamland, much less the king, is almost paramount for getting around. How else could the ruling monarch get to where the problems are, before it is too late?
Thank you for producing such an exciting webcomic. I always look forward to coming on and reading the next piece of the story. Now that you are taking some time in between please consider only updating on Mon, Wed, Fri. As I am sure, we all want you to fully recover from your injury so that you can come back stronger and continue on with this wonderful journey that we are privaliged to come along with you. Honestly speaking, it would look a bit cooler and more realistic by making the outstretched fingers a bit more relaxed and having Alexander looking a bit more to the right and into the distance. To be blunt, he looks like a lifeless doll in the last panel! I probably noticed that because I’m a visual thinker.
The hat on the centaur’s heady is a little disturbing.
