Page 1074…
Hi all!
I just wanted to thank you all again for the wonderful donations.
Does anyone know of a good site to do a live drawing? Like maybe add the names in and see what comes up?
Or do you just trust me to pick aΒ winner randomly for the Nastajia painting?
Also…
You may notice the BUY PRINT buttons in the navigation now.
Yes. We’re going to do it.
Here’s the thing. I have about 100 or so “ONE OF A KIND” prints that have NO dialog. Just art. Already printed.
For these…I was going to make them just 1 of 1. Only one will be printed of each. And then the REST of you can buy the ones WITH dialog for less.
I currently have the prints at $24.95 plus shipping.
The prints are all 13×19 inches. On Watercolor paper. They’re GORGEOUS!
Really. I’m sure SOMEONE here has seen them in person (I brought them to a con or two).
I’ll take a picture of them for you.
Anyways. They’re really nice.
I’m thinking the one of a kind pages will be $40 each. Same shipping.
Does this sound fair?
It may take a week or so to get the one of a kind prints up and running. They have to write a new script to make this happen.
Β Please let me know your thoughts.
IN THE MEANTIME…IF YOU’D LIKE TO BUY A REGULAR PRINT…GIVE IT A SHOT!
And again. Thank you for your generosity.
Scott
OH, wow!
It all sounds great scott. And one of a kinds, i think are ttly worth that much
live streaming:
http://www.ustream.tv/
a couple of other webcomic artists use it, it works pretty well. and there’s a chat for people who are watching.
I know that there are a lot of people who use random number generators to pick the number. They’ll put the names into a spreadsheet, use the generator and then announce the winner of their giveaway. If you really wanted to make sure everyone saw it was on the up and up, I’ve seen some contests end with a youtube posted video of the screen- so that people could see the spreadsheet list and that the number was done randomly. But honestly, I trust you! I’m sure most people trust that if you said it was a random draw that it was.
oh yeah! like bingo!
oh, haha, whoops! i totally misunderstood what you wrote! i guess i got a little overexcited at the thought of a live streaming of you drawing the comic.
There are a number of alternatives to UStream, if it does not suit your tastes. LiveStream.com is one such popular alternative. The ProCaster software comes in handy. I would recommend you try them and see what works for you, as you may be targeting a particular audience that one stream service might not work as well as the other.
Oh I fell into the same trap! Tricky homophones! But still, those services might be useful because he can stream himself as well.
You’re welcome Scott! And thank you for giving us this wonderful comic to read! π
Yay I’d love to see the sword talk again π
sigh well won’t make it to comic con this year π was hoping me and my GF could go but i didn’t buy the Tickets in time oh well next year i will go and take my Comic Obsessed GF with me lol
Whoops forgot to say that i hope we see the Sword talk again
After more then 8 or 9 years, I’ve finally used my paypal account. They musta been wondering wth I was doing with one unused after so long. If they even noticed. lolz, was a pain remembering which outdated password I used for it.
We trust you to do a random drawing, Scott. The easiest way I know of is to give a consecutive number to everyone who donated (rows in a spreadsheet or whatever). Then roll a 10 (or 20) sided die for the ones, tens, and if you were really successful, hundreds place. If the result is one of the assigned numbers, there’s your winner! If not, reroll from scratch. That way everyone has an equal shot.
I assume the 100 or so pages you mention are the 1 of 1 pages from the first 4 chapters that you mentioned earlier this week. Do you eventually plan to have a similar 1 of 1 page for every page in every chapter, or will there never be more than these first 100 pages?
The prices sound fair to me. It’s so nice of you to do this, I bet the one of a kind ones are a little bit hard to do. I wish I could order something, but I can in 2 years when I’m on my own (a poor college student ca afford to buy stuff once in awhile, right?).
I don’t know how I like that qualifier, ” If the sword was present…” We’ll just have to wait and see.
Oops. Sorry, I meant to only have the If bolded. (That’s not even a word, is it? Meh. It works)
*BUY PRINT* is a FANTASTIC addition!
Its NOT panhandling, but rather a non-intrusive way to give ADDED value to the Dreamland experince.
I think it will do well.
YAY! I’m so glad you didn’t make ALL of the prints one-of-a-kind. Kissing scene here I come! π
I DO Livestream from time to time…
http://www.livestream.com/thedreamlandchronicles
Yes. As of hopefully next week…we’ll have a one of a kind for EVERY page.
Thank you all.
You guys are the best.
So we’re clear.
The NOT limited edition prints are available NOW.
We just haven’t worked up the one of a kind part on the site yet.
So if you didn’t want to pay more for a one of a kind (with no word bubbles) then order away.
π
I think you could just run a random number generator to pick a single winner.
In the future if you do something like a monthly drawing for 4 weeks of art then some kind of video drawing might be more appropriate/interesting.
I hope the sword speaks quickly. I’m eager to learn what it has to say.
I’ve been reading back through the comic again, looking for any I would like to get copies of, and there are two things I’ve noticed. Three things actually. Your environmental effects are amazing. The underwater and dwarven areas and the way they made people look were beautiful. And from the beginning you’ve had a jaw dropping quality to your cinematic storytelling. I can almost SEE the camera panning and zooming to show cityscapes and then fights. Finally, I’ve noticed that, somewhere around the time that the party made it to Hilmdell, there was a major shift in the lighting that you use. It got both brighter and softer if that make any sense. Makes the character stand out much better.
That, with the addition of your recent change in the eyes that give them real life, makes all of your more recent comics just look more ALIVE than the earlier ones. You always had good expressions, which in most cases overrode the “dead eye” syndrome common in CG. But now you have LIVING eyes, and that together with the good expressions, USUALLY good stances, and the new lighting techniques really makes the new stuff look amazing.
The real funny part is that your earliest stuff was better than all but one CG comic I have ever seen. And that one only started a few months ago, at most. And the dude does movie CG work for a living. Your current stuff, while a different style, matches that quality. I could see this in a movie, right now. You do real good.
Bummin! Now I’ll have to look through EVERY SINGLE PAGE of the comic to see which one(s) I love the most! π
Maybe I’ll request a “1 of 1” print of some of the mashups I’ve made. π
One copy of Page 1024 Alternate, please! π
And just think. A few years from now when we’re in Chapter 24, the comic will look even MORE amazing.
So, how much money did we raise? Or is that a rude question?
LOL!
More work for me…ack.
That would be kind of funny, though.
Buy a print with a page with YOUR dialog.
Thank you so much.
What a wonderful description and so kind.
I have learned a lot over the years. And both my writing and my art have improved immensely since I started Dreamland in 2003.
The page you may be mentioning is this one…
http://thedreamlandchronicles.com/the-dreamland-chronicles/page-751%e2%80%a6/
That’s when I got the new computers (my workstation died) and found that scenes that were taking me 8 hours to render took only 20 minutes on these new computers.
This meant I could start tweaking the lighting. I could actually get the lighting RIGHT without having to settle.
This is the first page I realized that the new computers were fast enough for me to raytrace the reflections on Alexander’s armor.
http://thedreamlandchronicles.com/the-dreamland-chronicles/page-783%e2%80%a6/
And the learning just kept coming.
π
I do look at the early pages and wish I could go back and “fix” them. But I’m more interested in seeing how much better I’ll be by chapter 24 as Jakes Dad mentioned.
Onward and upward.
Not rude.
A few hundred dollars so far. Very encouraging.
YAY! Some more history in Dreamland!
Heh, Felicity looks bored. I guess the events of the last couple of pages, while quite entertaining and story-building for us, aren’t very attention-grabbing for a cat …
π
Random.org claims to have true random number generation (not pseudorandom) using atmospheric noise. They have free number generation, and also a reasonably priced raffle drawing service. The page with the pricing is here.
@everyone: In the midst of all these wonderful new features, don’t forget to hop over to TWC and VOTE!
Is it just me, or DID Felis lose weight when sick? Is the fact that she’s leaner, intentionally? I like it. She looks less of a kid and more of a grown-up woman. It is something about the head-body proportions..[scratches chin pondering]
DO NOT DARE FIX!!!!! The evolution of the art is as much a joy as simply following the story. The joy of Seq.Art is the combo, at least, to me it is…
I remember staying the hell away from ray-tracing after having the only computer powerful enough to do that in a realistic time-frame, churning away for days ,makin’ it unavailable for other productions(say 3 days..it was the 80’s in a cash-strapped Academy of fine arts,. after all).they really hated me.
Nowadays with i7’s and Vid cards that on their own are as powerful as several SG-workstation in the 80’s combined, I really feel old..
I wonder why no one thought to ask the sword about this earlier when they first had him talking…
Just kidding, actually. There are too many pages that my kids love that I will have to get first. Got to preserve those great memories!
Scott,
While looking through the archives, I noticed that the special expanding 2 page view template perfected for Pages 1017 and 1018 (Nick goes FWOOSH) could be used on the 2 page views of Ashendel (Pages 152 and 153) and Aethos (781 and 782).
Not that your web dude doesn’t have enough to do already. π
I wonder if Nicodemus knew about this quality of the sword, and whether he could do anything about it. If he’s powerless against it, then maybe the only thing he could do was to hide it–which only works until the fated possessor (Alex) comes to find it and take it up.
Yeah. Would really liked to do that soon.
YAY!! We hope it helps! You totally deserve it.
I use a die roller when im gaming online, its uses all the dice to roll and there is a spot that you can put how many sides you need if more than 20. http://www.wizards.com/dnd/dice/dice.htm
yay i jus noticed felicity
love it scott. *jaw drop*
Hey look at that, .. the one of a kind originals are available for sale now.
You ROCK, Phil!
