Page 987…
Hey all…
My apologies to those of you who’ve emailed me over the last couple weeks.
We’ve had family visiting for Donna’s birthday.
I’m trying to catch up now.
THere’s also a few orders I need to get to.
Thanks for your patience with this.
Things are moving along quite well here. And I’ll probably be doing a Livestream today or tomorrow (or both).
Feel free to come by and say hi.
You’ll know it’s live if you go to Twitter or Facebook and check when I’m doing it.
Plus…there won’t be a banner at the bottom saying “this is recorded video”
🙂
Oh! And check out the WONDERFUL drawing of Kiwi that Lar did for me!
Lar is the award winning artist for Least I Could Do and Looking For Group!
You can check out his work here…
I’m sure most of you who read webcomics know who Lar is. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him (thanks to Tracy Bailey for pointing out where he was) at Comic Con this year.
Then again at Baltimore. His wife Christie is the school teacher we did the Livestream for last week.
They’re both fabulous people…and actually read the comic. Which is so cool.
Anyways. Due to the more “R” rated nature of LICD and LFG…I’m leaving the links out for the kiddos who might be reading.
The rest of you…you know how to find the sites.
Thank you so much, Lar! I’m so flattered.
I love her.
Scott
Hm. There must be something about Nastajia’s handwriting…. or am I reading too much into it?
Well I think she’s still wrestling with the real-ness of it all, and is saying it more for her own benefit now. No doubt she would be able to tell that it wasn’t written by Alex 😛
“She” meaning Nicole**
I <3 Looking For Group
Is it just me, or does the parchment seem a bit smaller than necessary? I mean, a standard 8.5×11″ piece of paper could still be folded up small enough to fit inside the medicine bag. (And yes, I realize that the magic is partly in the parchment, but that doesn’t mean that the parchment couldn’t be bigger.)
I’m still having a hard time believing that Nicole’s letter was able to fit on that small piece of parchment, unless Nicole has really small handwriting, and Alex has really good eyesight.
It’s like a teleprompter, Lazer 😀 The words just scroll as you go… Dreamland’s own word processing program.
Nah, I’ll just agree. The parchment probably could stand to be visually a little big larger.
I think it’s a solid theory – now we just have to see where Nicole’s going with her question. I’m hoping it’s more of a ‘this is clearly too feminine to be the chicken scratch that Alex calls handwriting.’ and less of a ‘I really can’t tell… Nastajia must not write too well – IF this is real at all.”
I am wondering if Felicity is illiterate. Being a street urchin, I imagine she would be.
Also, even though the people in dreamland speak English… What’s to say the note is in an alphabet Nicole can read? Nastajia might have pulled some Elven Royal calligraphy. As for Dan, he’s a brain, so he probably knows archaic proto-cherokee and centaurian runes from a cave in Mississippi.
Well I’m sure they’re not going to write a full-blown sermon. I reckon you could at least comfortably fit “Many happy returns xxx” on there without too much trouble.
As far as Nastajia’s handwriting is concerned the question I’m wondering is indeed what is so special about it? Maybe it will be all elven glyphs or a weird language that Nicole can’t understand instead of the Latin alphabet in English?
Gahh I need to get an avatar pronto if the website is going to make me look like a pixie girl by default! 🙁
You know, I’ve been reading LICD and LFG for months now and just figured out last week that Lars did both of them. Never made the connection.
Nicole looks like she’s still getting used to the idea that the people Alex keeps talking about are real. She’d met Felicity, but still… Making that leap of faith is not easy.
On another note, the artwork on the walls is rather interesting. It suggests whomever is doing the decorating is either interested in neurology – or is a zombie!
Hey, the cave is in Missouri. It’s the cave state!
I agree with Limax.. Nicole looks like she’s still trying to deal with her reality being significantly! altered. 😀 I’m so glad he remembered to bring the letter back!!!
Oh, and I’ll ask my brother-in-law about advertising. He and my sister are hard to pin down, lol!! So it might take me a bit. 😀
The Kiwi art looks adorable! I really hope she can stop putting gothy eyeliner under her eyes lol XD *runs*
Maybe they like to be relatively conservative with their paper in Dreamland. After all, deforestation is a problem.
Maybe something from Nicole’s childhood has Nastajia’s handwriting on it — something that Felicity swiped, perhaps. Handwriting changes only so much between ages 12 and 20.
I agree, I took it to mean something along the line of “this is too nice to be Alex’s writing…”
Not sure if she’ll verbalize that though, as I think she’s slowly getting to a point where these little confirmations can be dealt with in less than a second in her head… and just by asking “this is Nastajia’s handwriting?” is enough of an overt expression…
Well, at least I hope that’s how she’s thinking! Because if she spends another page discussing about the details of Nastajia’s handwriting, we’ll definitely have to wait a full weekend to read Felicity’s reply! It’s Thurs already… so scared of another cliffhanger *__*
That’d be really cool… but I don’t think Nicole could have anything like that. Scott established that the parchment and bag work in tandem to allow correspondence… that’s not to say it’s impossible, but I don’t see it happening. Without some kind of transfer method, even if they DID swipe that long mushy love letter that Nastajia wrote to Alex from the princess’ bedroom there wouldn’t be a way to get it to Earth.
But still… it’d be neat.
“H-hey Nicole… what’s this?”
“Oh, just a letter Felicity swiped a long ti… hey, wait… YOU’RE the Alexander it talks about?”
*laughs* C’mon, man… Kiwi’s cool like that, you should be honored 😀
This brings up another interesting question… Not everyone speaks english, so what of the dreamers from other countries. Do the Dreamlanders speak whatever language is understood by an individual dreamer at any given time? Are there separate regions of Dreamland to represent Earth?
Is Dreamland EXCLUSIVE to Earth… as in, does it assume that Earth is the only planet with sentient life… or are there aliens on Dreamland?
This is a random place for you to have posted this, but yes, they’re both drawn by Lar and written by Sohmer. How they find the time to do that, I have no idea.
Awesome lighting, Scott!
I really like the Kiwi art, as well!
I would assume that non-english speaking dreamers dream in their own language, regardless of what the denizens of dreamland are actually speaking. Dreamland could have its own language for all we know. It could just be that Alex is dreaming in English.
AAHHH I WANNA SEE WHAT SHE WROTE FSDJKFJSDIO
Except if it really is parchment, the word Scott has used consistently, it comes not from trees or plants, but from sheep.
That would be a problem. Where are the sheep? For that matter, are there sheep in Dreamland?
I think its a question of how the dreamer perceives the language. If you are used to hearing one language constantly that you understand, thats what you hear in Dreamland. Kind of like learning your native language while you sleep. It is an interesting question though.
Wait for it… now.
You might see it tomorrow, but knowing Scott… some time next week. Hope you don’t mind the cliff hanger.
Someone needs to teach Alex the meaning of the word “Dictation.” 🙂
That’s when you look stuff up in the dictionary, right?
I noticed the part that says “Comments” now says “Discussion”. When did that happen?
My theory is that, though she has never seen the letters before, she somehow understands what it says. Maybe that’s part of the magic in the parchment.
The answer is C) All of the above 🙂
Seriously, when are we going to get tired of ragging on Alex’s intelligence?
Answer: When he starts to wise up!
Not so random considering the fan art by Lar today.
🙂
As a LiCD and LFG fan my I say very cool.
Yes–they count them to get to sleep!
Maybe they use babelfish imported from The Hitchhiker’s Guide Universe?
Nicole (reading Felicity’s Letter): “‘Dear Nicole…hee hee…wow Nastajia I never realized how pointy your ears are…okay…hi Nicole, I’m feeling reeeeeealy good right now….oooh, pretty colorsh…’ What the heck?!”
Alex: “Well Nastajia took it verbatim and they had to do emergency surgery on Felicity. She was still groggy from the anesthetic.”
