Don’t worry. He’ll still be loveable and carefree. Just what Nastajia needs in her life.
But he does need to focus. To “man up” as we say.

Honestly…I didn’t have time yesterday to create new art. So I used some of the images from my new backdrop. I thought it might be fun.

As for the rest of the whole TopWebcomics thing. I think you’re right. Most people (90% it seems) just read the comic…then move on. They don’t even know the rest of the site exists.

But on the flip side…
While we’ve got some new readers from being in the top 10….our traffic hasn’t increased one bit from it.
So while I may update the incentive once a week…I don’t think it’s worth all the extra effort to do it DAILY.

I vote whether or not there’s an incentive anyway, and this is the only webcomic I vote for, so I suppose it doesn’t matter to me. The incentives are a nice bonus though.
Yeah, looks like he’ll focus on what he Needs to do for awhile, instead of just what he Wants to do, like he’s been doing his whole life, heh.
And yeah, weekly Incentives are good and it doesn’t have to be brand new, I like the “collection of coolness” that you have up now.
And as far as the voting goes, have you thought about putting a Comments link above the comic so it draws some attention? Not only will that increase the chance that they’ll scroll down and maybe Vote but could increase readership participation.

Just thought I’d mention I’m working on my very first comic strip of the Doodle Gang… hoping somebody other than my dad will like it 🙂
Today my dad and I went to the pool. We had a race in honor of Billy Mays. I’ll miss that voice… he didn’t deserve to go yet… such a great, generous man with such a beautiful family and a golden heart.
Just to say again… it was amazing meeting you at Heroes Con… you are just so nice! Not to mention you are also just so generous!
Well, it’s 1:41AM… better get to bed (or should I say couch) because the other day I was up till about 5:00AM…

Hey there! I’ve been following the Chronicles for several months now, but I’m a first-time commenter (I was too chicken to do so before ;3). First I would like to say that I have enjoyed experiencing Dreamland so very much, and second- I love reading all of the posts you make with each page. You are incredible <3

I think our comments reached Alex 😀 As far as my July 4th plans are concerned, they involve going up to the mountains with my mom to her condo(and since it has Cartoon Network, watching new episodes of Bleach!! Woo-hoo!) and watching some fireworks. I wish all the readers of this fine comic and the author a happy and safe 4th, and be careful with the fireworks!(don’t wanna lose an eye like old Nico now)
I think you have better things to do than making a daily incentive for us. Once a week (or so) is fine with me. We who vote do so with or with out new wallpaper anyway.

Hi, I discovered this web comic two days ago (from TWC) and I must say I was instantly hooked (yup, all the pages have been eaten). I just want to let you know that I think this is awesome and I’ve clicked on all the links in the header. xD
You may or may not see me again, but one thing that’s sure is that I’ll be reading and recommending to others. 😀
Similar to Meryle I just started reading this Comic about 2 days ago. I heard about it from the writer of one of the several other Web-comics i read and opened it in a new tab a week ago or so, but just got around to reading it. I was so disappointed when i caught up to the new pages because now i have to wait like everyone else for the new stuff. That aside, this is an amazing comic, i don’t even want to think about what you must go though to get everything done but you do an awesome job at it. Keep up the great work and i will keep checking in.

Well, I’m going to vote daily anyway, if you’re updating the vote incentive or not. Also I think people might want to have the opportunity to get those nice wallpapers you put up – so it may be good to leave them for long than just one day. Or maybe you could also tease us by saying you will put them up again for just one day at a later date.
Also, I’m certainly not someone who just reads the comic and doesn’t look at your comments. It would be unfair. Personally I only read a select few webcomics, because I want to spend time reading what the artist has to say and, if time permits, reply to it.
i think updating the vote incentive once a week is perfect. and you don’t have to create new art for this – i re-read the whole archive to find my favorite images for this. Some cool ideas for desktops (i like seeing them bigger, even if i can’t use them all, detail!)

Well, I usually vote anyway if I think about it. I do have a request however – I apparently voted too early to get the voting incentive with Nastajia in her new costume, and it wouldn’t switch over when I attempted to vote again later. Is there any way you could possibly put that one back up for a day or two, or email it me? I’d greatly appreciate it, but understand if you would rather not.
Also, because I’m apparently a dolt, I love this comic and hope you stick with it long past you 1000th page! Great concept, great story, and a great medium. Thank you so much for taking the time to create this amazing comic. ^_^
Actually, if you want to wish us a happy Independence Day, you’re not at all early. 🙂 Today is the day Congress actually ratified the Declaration of Independence. John Adams wrote Abigail he thought the day July 3rd would be remembered for all time and celebrated with cannons and fireworks! The *fourth* of July is the day that Congress adopted the final wording on the document. There were some areas they felt Jefferson went too far (blaming King George III for slavery in America) and deleted some of his sections.

scott, there ain’t no need to stretch yerself with all these incentive updates every day. ^^ Keep a once per week or once per two weeks schedule. Just my opinion regarding that matter.

Two things, besides loving the character development this week! One is I’ve been having some problems with IE opening Dreamland Chronicles. It’s been giving me the icon of Doom and then popping me to the IE cannot open the page. It takes a couple of times before it stops doing that, sometimes just hitting the back button work. Not sure if it’s my computer (which it could be, or something else on the page) but just wanted to give you a heads up. Two, I noticed the “cons your going to be at” section is missing. Are you still planning on attending Baltimore Comic Con this year??? *blinks wistfully*
Okay, so he was DELIBERATELY stupid — in the “I Don’t Really Want To Become Responsible” way, which is unfortunately all too common.
But it looks like — as one would expect — Beautiful Girl Kicking his Ass can get through that skull.
I am hoping to see a much more proactive Alex from now on.
I tend to be pretty shy so I don’t comment often, but I saw your comic listed as a suggested comic on my Google reader, and I came and read the archives and I have become addicted to your comic. Thank you so much for writing such a lovely story.

I find a new page is enough incentive to vote daily, but I can’t thank you enough for yesterday’s wallpaper. The Atheos splash page has often been my wallpaper, Nastajia in her new outfit really brings it to life.

Your readers love what you are doing, thats why we come here everyday to read your story.
To some, it’s just a story that they can enjoy, which is more then anyone can ask for. To others it’s inspiration.
Anyone who thinks it’s good enough will get the word out.
Don’t get me wrong exposure is good for your comic and you, but the last couple of days you have been coming off as a whiny jerk.

I think updating vote incentive daily is a little much, but it does help at the beginning of the month when the counters reset.

Moley, I’m appalled at the thought and ashamed that we, Scott’s admirers, couldn’t manage to propel and maintain TDL in the top ten on our own, without incentives. How long does it take to vote and how hard is it really?
The blame lays at the doorstep of us, the readers. If we were doing our jobs properly, spreading the word, Scott wouldn’t need self-promotion. Many of us could take a lesson from Nancy. She actually reboots our router to try to get a new IP address so she can vote again in one day.

I LIKE the WEELY desktop incentive idea. I think it’ll do just as well over the whole month as the daily with less work for you. Plus even us “daily” visitors occasionally miss from time to time and the WEEKLY desktop incentive would work out best for us as we could still get the desktops and you since you would only have one a week to do. After all 50 new or repackaged Desktops a year STILL is a whole lotta goodies! … still voting for the Teddy Bears.
I personally think as long as you put the link in your comments below each page, you will get good response and it will grow … with time. Having the one button click right on the daily page works great for us lazy people!
ps. It’s Summer … that’s why Emilee is up so late (mostly drawing on her Tablet Pc … so I ain’t complaining one bit!)

Very important pages, I must say. A character’s abrupt change of attitude can be confusing to the reader without some sort of explanation why. These pages are not only important, but presented in such a way as to make the characters even more important to the audience. Well done, Scott!

Seems that every webcomic has its flybys. I saw a comment at another comic say that only one out of every fifty viewers comment and I’ve noticed that only about 10% of my viewers vote. I suppose these are just the hard facts about comics on the ‘net. I agree with you though. Even if I had no votes or comments and was all by myself in this cyberworld, I would still make my little comics all by my lonesome…
OMG! I love this comic. I have read it from beginning to end, straight through, since discovering it. It was like finding diamonds in my back yard. I can’t wait for future pages to be released. Keep up the great work.

Personally, I think it is worth doing daily, but that’s my opinion. I’ve been reading this comic since chapter 12 was new, so I’m relatively new to the whole thing. Anyhow, I look forward to updates every day, ’cause I visit and read all the comments from everyone too. xD

Random – could you add a “previous” and “next” buttons to the top of the comic page? As it is, I have to scan down the page REALLY fast to get to the “previous” link to catch up, but not have a spoiler. (I don’t read daily, I tend to read about twice a week.)

I never bother with other people’s wallpaper – I like my own. 🙂 But I vote every time I read a page.
I’m not sure that topsites are a great source of traffic – they never have been for me – but they ARE a great way of finding new regular readers.
What I WOULD suggest is that those with Stumbleupon accounts (such as yours truly) give you a big, electronic, thumbs up and a nice review.
Why don’t I go do that right now…
I think the weekly incentives would be fine: those who vote more often would still do so, and those who don’t wouldn’t anyway. And that way we’d have a chance to see the new pic before it disappears. Keep up the good work….

i think it’s generous of scott to leave ‘moley’s’ comment up – you do not sound like a whiny jerk, scott. ever. and you’ve asked us to vote less than many other comic creators, and it never irritated me when they asked. the opposite, i’m glad my faves are concerned about their own marketing success.
i do gripe to comic creators myself, and i am a fan of saying what you think and not being a sycophant, but…if you’d been following this comic for several years, moley, you’d know scott doesn’t really ask us for anything. voting is a small thing to do. do you see a donation bar here? no pleas for donations? if you don’t see it then consider whether i’m right. scott is one of the more humble creators around. this is one of his charms – he was even generous with you about your comment.

A weekly (or maybe semi-weekly?) incentive wallpaper would be more than enough — I’m sure you’ll put the time saved to more creative use!
(In fact, a little longer for each might be good — I wasn’t able to get to the site at all Thursday or Friday…and judging from the thumbnail, I think I’d really have liked Thursday’s desktop… 🙁 A little longer window of opportunity would be nice sometimes.)

Is Alex in a coma? Not that I mind Dreamland at all, it’s awesome. I just started to wonder because he’s been there quite a while. Usually he fades out when the good stuff start happening. Waiting for an appropriate cliffhanger? I voted for you! I love the collage too, but I didn’t need an incentive to vote. This is a pretty rockin’ comic.

So, I know I sound like an idiot, asking this now (after we’ve been on the centaur sequence for a while), but I have to ask. The lighting at night gives everyone a kind of iridescent glow. What light source is doing that? Or is it a special, ultra-secret centaur thing?

I found your comic through TWC three days ago and have just finished reading the ENTIRE saga. Wowsa, it’s great! I’m looking forward to buying the books too. I must say your work ethic and devotion to your tale is quite commendable (especially after reading about your injuries, kids getting sick, site being hacked, yikes). Suggestion: since there is a creepy, half-naked cat girl in the #1 spot on TWC, I think you should change your banner on that site to something advertising Felicity, who is way better than something like that. And she also wears clothes. Battle between the cat girls! Go, Felicity!
