Page 855…
Hey all…
Well…I made it another week.
Physical Therapy is going good. I definitely feel that the excersise is helping.
I still can only sit for maybe 10 minutes at a time. But as I’ve said (and as you’ve said) I’ll take it day by day and won’t rush into things.
Hope you enjoy your weekend. And as always…thanks for your support and encouragement.
Only 4 more pages until the end of Chapter 14. Once I finish this…I will take that break you’ve all encouraged me to take. I promise.
Once I come back…I’ll have pages “in the can” and ready to go back to full 5 days a week.
In the meanwhile…I guess let’s focus on the last of this chapter…and I hope you like it.
See ya on Monday.
Scott
OK, but still, do try not to push yourself too far.
You’re still updating two or three per week, and there are tons of webcomics out there which aren’t nearly as beautifully done that update one heck of a lot less. And most of those authors don’t have back injuries ๐
as somebody who has had tendinitis in both hands for a year and a half and been to a lot of physical therapy, I feel your pain. It’s really tough when medical conditions interfere with doing artwork. I have great respect for physical therapists, though. Hope they can bring you out of it!
Yay For Weekends! Take Care Scott And Try Not To Over Exert Yourself. On A Side Note Tho My Turtle Is Finally 2 Years Old Now! Yay For Turtles! SorryI Just Thought That I Would Share Some Good News Since There Hasnt Been Much Of It Lately.
Glad to hear you are doing better Scott. Keep up with your therapy relax! Enjoy your time off from this comic ๐
With that said, though, I can’t wait until the end of the chapter ๐
Still praying for you, Scott. ๐
And in other news … ACK eyeball!?
Okay so I think I have a rough translation for the centaur in this strip. It’s cool – I’m like, 1/50 Cherokee, or something. I can totally do this.
I’ll break it down panel by panel:
Panel 1: “I am going to stick this sword into the ground.”
Panel 2: “Next I will-OH LOOK I found a quarter!”
Panel 3: “How fortunate! It was heads-up! I will now show my gratitude by hugging the sword.”
Panel 4: “Oh, it’s looking at me. I can tell we are going to be great friends.”
… did I mention this was a rough translation?
Did anyone else notice that the Centaur dude has a handprint on his BUTT?! What’s up with that, man?! And OH MY GOD, the sword is STARING AT ME!!! **Shrieks and hides under her blankie**
And that the hand print is larger than any centaur’s hand… Yet about the same size as Alexander’s hand. D:
Though I do have to admit when he started going off in mock Native American lingo, I got a bit offended. At first I was looking at the guy, feeling a bit uneasy, “That’s kind of not right…” Then Scott took it over the edge.
Though I guess I am just sensitive since I grew up having my culture mocked รขโฌโ I’m mostly Blackfoot and Cherokee with a smidgen of Cheyenne and about 1/16 French Canadian รขโฌโ with all sorts of asinine mimicry and taunting.
I love this comic and it has exceptional storytelling, so I won’t say anything more beyond a finger-wagging at Scott.
oi! The eye opens…is that good or bad?
I love the reflections on the sword, both the knife and the gold.
And did I say that I really like Orions design too? The paintings on him and the colours look really good, he looks like a leader indeed.
… okay, that’s freaky… a crosshilt starts eyeballing me (literally!) and I’m going to tell you that that’s just FREA-KY…
… (and if it starts singing Show Tunes in the voice of Ethel Merman – then drop it and run – run fast – with your hands over your ears, and you shouting “La La La La La…”)
Something about that eye totally reminds me of that old Beastmaster movie from the 80’s. (theres this ring that has an eye on it, gave me the creeps as a kid!).
An amber eye that hides in the sword…
The sword is stuck in a stone…
Okay, are we recreating Arthur or something with a creepy twist?
Keep on taking care of yourself and don’t worry about update frequency until you’re well. (Then try to emulate Howard and build yourself up a buffer so that you can get sick, take a vacation, etc., and not worry!)
And a creepy-sound-effect opening eye. Well, I suppose I can be grateful the centaur wasn’t saying “Ia! Ia! Cthulhu f’htagn!”.
Unless, of course, that’s what he’s GOING to say now.
Thank you all. So glad you liked the page so far.
Hoo-ya…
LOL! Yeah. That’s MUCH better than what I had for the translation…ha ha. I love it.
Brent…
Thanks for understanding.
I appreciate you saying something.
Honestly (as I’m sure you’ve guessed)…you know I would NEVER do something like this in joke.
Making the Centaurs (a well respected and magical race in Dreamland) Native American in look and mannerisms was solely due to my love for the culture.
Finding ACTUAL Native American chants online was not easy. What I wrote down was from a song I found online.
I don’t know what it means. But it is not mock writing. It’s taken from lyrics I found to a popular song.
If anyone knows what it means? Or if it is in any way offensive. I’d love to know.
Thank you all!
Great LAST PANEL !!!
Glad you are gonna take a break too …
Okay, It’s good to see I’m not the only one creeped out by the eye opening in the last panel. lol. Other than creepy eyeball, the page looks awesome!
Glad PT is helping your back, and glad you’re heeding all of “our wise advice” to take it slow. ^_^
Hmmm, I’m picking up a King Arthur vibe, with just a little BeastMaster thrown in (the eye in the sword).
Gyah! It has an EYE!
It’s been a while since I have been able to leave a comment. I am so glad that you are doing well, Scott, and being able to keep up has to be a lot of hard work. I can wait a year if it means you get better. Your health comes first, no matter what.
I am really enjoying the story so far and I can’t wait to see what happens, and I hope Nicole comes back to Dreamland. That would TOTALLY rock in my book. ๐
Get better Scott. Your “loyal” fans will wait. ^_^
Two nights ago I had a dream that I went to a planet where yellow eyes were spontaneously embedded everywhere: on walls, on trees, even on the sides of shoes. They blinked and followed your every move.
I freaked out today because the sword’s eye looks just… like… the ones in my dream. :[
Comics can wait, Backs are forever
Oh yeah, here it comes. It’s going to be a intelligent sword, but you know, now that Scott’s on pain killers, it’s going to be a smartass sword. It’s going to tell bad jokes, hit on the women, call the dragon-king a filthy gecko and try to get them to use rubbing alcohol to clean him all the time. That way it can act like a drunkard and have an excuse for always being sarcastic.
Doesn’t Spawn have a sword with eyes on it? That seemed to be the case in “Soul Caliber 2.”
Wow… I didn’t see that coming. Really, wow.
Physical therapy’s great, isn’t it? You keep up that exercise, Scott! We’re routing (really, i’ve got no idea how to spell that word – so weird) for you!
The last panel reminds me of the Eye on the Witchblade ๐ Only instead of gold it was red surrounded by silver ๐ Quite awesome looking as well.
I wonder if the sword has a ‘sister’ artifact that has yet to be discovered?
Oh, that poor rock. Stabbed by a sword like that… ACK! An eye!!!! O_o
And Scott, as we’ve said numerous times, don’t push yourself too hard! I’m glad to hear the therapy and exercise are helping… there again, don’t push yourself too hard. It’s very easy to get impatient and want to rush things… that’s the LAST thing you want to do because it can lead to more problems later.
AND THE SWORD AWAKENS! Love the eyeball, Scott! Completely unexpected!
Scott:
I’m about 1/8 Cherokee myself, but I find no derision in the chant. After all, YOU are creating the environment and YOU are determining what the languages are, much like Tolkien did with Middle Earth, and I find some stark similarities between yours and that. Not complaining, just informing, and enjoying it like very few before.
Also, it sounds like you have a solid plan to get better and keep the audience happy at the same time.
As to the sword, people, go back to when we FIRST saw the sword wake up. It’s awake again, and it may or may not be a bad thing. The sword has a mind of it’s own, and will use it when it deems it necessary. It may take matters into its own, like when Alex first encountered the sword and Nicodemus. The fact that the Centaur somehow called it to wake up is a curiosity, and I look forward to what develops from it.
Stay shiny, and keep fyin’. I’ve found Wayfarer’s Moon to keep me entertained in your absence…
So, what’s next, will Alex be called to, once again, pull the sword from the stone/ground? Solidifying his place in Dreamland? I guess that we’ll find out!
@ironbandit: Wayfarer’s Moon only updates once a week, although what it currently there is quite a good number of pages with awesome story elements going on in it. I wish it would update more often. :-/
Oh gosh, it is the Tetsaiga, only with a little more physical personality.
Glad to hear the physio is starting to help, really looking forward to where the eye in the sword is going. Reaction when I scrolled down to that panel was “Wooooo, what is that!”
Keep up the great work and glad to hear the good news about the books into movie projects.
Wow, glad to hear you’re getting better, S-man!
And hey, long time since we saw the sword-eye, huh? Glad it’s making a comeback! (And so are you, right Sicky? Hope you get better quick! -(;})=)
CREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wayfarer’s Moon: no matter that it updates once a week. There are quite a few stories happening inside THAT story, and it’s all entertainment. The artists produce what and when they can, and readers are glad of it.
This one, by far, has the most realistic imagery, and a G rating to boot! Scott is very ambitious with the story and I hope that he doesn’t do himself damage trying to tell it. It will only continue if he creates it.
Glad to see you’re taking it easy, Scott. There was something simplistically enticing about this page. I really liked it.
Ok, that sword eye is just creepy ๐ And i am glad you are doing better
Haha, I bet that sord’s thinkin’: What the HECK did I do last night!?
It’s the evil eye! AUGH! Just kidding. Hope you feel a lot better soon, Scott!
This completely flashed me to an “Evil Dead” type movie… lol!!!! Now that was very unexpected!!!
Okay, so today’s strip really makes me think of Soul Caliber and My Little Ponies. ๐ฏ
woah awmsome!!! love the creepy eye thing!!!
Scott YOU ARE AWSOME!!!!!!
(also posted on forum – claimed translation found using google)

“Let us eclipse the the sun and the moon with our spiritual and emotional being, and let us transcend these physical barriers and negativity which have made us a nation of one. May the winds of time put into motion this feeling we share with our Mother Earth and this universe till the end of time. May the creator bestow upon us a grand sense of unity and peace which we will continue to pass on to our people, wherever they reside.”
Wow…that’s cool. I hope that’s what this says. That’s pretty deep.
Thanks.
And to everyone else. Thanks. I hope you have a great weekend. I’ll hopefully see you on Monday with a new page. If everything goes OK.
No pushing it. I promise.
๐
better not… and THE EYE RETURNS!!!! MUAHAHAHAHA!!!! bring us more evil eye says i!!! hehe.. i rymed… and grant chant too…. it looks good…
Definately lots of potential here. Well done.
Lots of potential here. Well done.
that eye was awsome!!!
the eye…………………..!
oooooooooooooooooooooh
http://soundsoothing.blogspot.com/2009/01/yeha-noha_19.html <– if thats where the song was taken from, then thats funny! I have that song and it gets regular circulation in my playlist when I’m working on something that needs a little extra boost of inspiration. ๐ (Funny, as in I had no idea it was the same lyrics.)
It is hard to get a full and accurate translation, as tone can play a large part in it. With no tonal markings, the meanings of each syllable can be ambiguous, so any translations could be interpreted in at least a dozen different ways. No matter, we know now that Orion did not intend to keep the sword from Alex, but to awaken it and Alex to exchange wisdom and knowledge. We can breathe a collective sigh of relief, what is unfolding is all good, and the story continues.
Take it easy there, Scott. We look forward to more story until this reaches a conclusion, and the next story, and the next story…and so on. You are a brilliant story teller, and I for one, am with you for long haul.
Oh, give over on the freak outs because the sword woke up! If you read this from the beginning, you’d have seen, in the first chapter, on page 28, the sword woke up just as Nicodemus claimed that it was pure evil. And it took action against Nicodemus immediately. That is why Nicodemus wants it, so that he can control access to it. He can’t wield it, but humans can, is why he drives humans from Dreamland, they hold the key to his displacement.
There’s a book in my school library with a little chapter about the dreamland chronicles in it (which is how I found out about it) and it has a picture of Alex staring at the eye in the sword. So it’s great to see it finally appear (properly).
awesome page. I have GOT to know what’s happening now, I love this comic.
that doesn’t mean that you can get out of bed!
Wasn’t King Arthur one of the past Kings of Dreamland?
Clatu, Veratu, Nictum!
ZOMG it’s a SOUL EDGE!!!!!
Well. I’m a fairly recent newcomer to TDC (a few weeks reading from the very beginning as I had time). I, like so many others who are here avidly following the unfolding of your creation, cannot say enough how very much I enjoy it. (And sorry if some of my earliest posts were not exactly rated G, I didn’t realize it was that clean when I first began reading, heh.) I’m one of those who discovered TDC from the guest strip you did on Wapsi Square (whose archives I was reading through as another recent discovery).
As I began getting closer and closer to the present while reading, I saw your posts about your injury and health difficulties, and I hoped that by the time I had reached the present those issues would be a thing of the past. Again, along with so many others here, I wish you the best and a speedy recovery. I’ve seen how kind and giving of yourself that you are toward everyone that you encounter (in whatever form that may be) and I hope that you do not try to push yourself to be too much and do too much for everyone at once.
On a lighter note, you should have gone in for the extended warranty. Once that 40 year factory warranty on you ran out you should have known you’d be in trouble. ๐
And regarding today’s installment, yes, I believe most of us can agree that today’s special word is “creepy”. I knew about the eye from the beginning of the story, I remembered it was there the whole time, and it was STILL creepy to see that thing in the middle of the sword. I think it comes from seeing such a human-looking eye staring at you from what is supposed to be an inanimate object. If it, were, say, a jeweled eye rather than organic, the creep factor would not be there. Unfortunately it’s a bit late to change the appearance of the eye now even if you wanted to.
The chant sounds like he’s neighing! ๐ . . . Okay . . . moving along I really like the eye on that sword.
“Eye of Thundera! Give me sight beyond sight!” – Lion-O
…No you did not. You did not just do that. Seriously. Excalibur? Or, for those of you less versed in Arthurian legend, the sword in the stone. I sorely hope that it only seems like it, and you won’t have him declaring that only the rightful king of Dreamland will be able to pull the sword from the stone. And yet…somehow I think not.
I think it’d be better if the text was written in another language with a different font.
rcjT3t comment6 ,
I like the chant, but I do have to admit that when I first see the page, I hear Orion saying, “Neener, neener, neener!” as he plays keep-away from Alex. Knowing it’s source and translation helps.
Heh, I have no clue whats beening said by the centar, but it looks like its working.
And on a little side note, I don’t know how much the horse half of a centar is like a real horse, but just so its know if he was a horse his back legs wouldn’t bend like they do.
But then again maybe centars horse bits have diffrent joints then horses.
Anyways, just wanted to pop up and show some support because this is one awesome comic!
Evil sword is still evil.
All the best with recovering quickly, Scott!
gasp the eye opens
good luck scott
Ceruleaaannnn! I’m waaaaatchinnnng youuuuuuu! โฌ=(@)=โฌ
Ok, I just noticed something:
Orion has tattoos on the centaur part of his body…
How does that work, really? I mean, does he use fur dye or something, or is it something else?
Eye see how it is…
