The Making of Dreamland Page 04…
I still have hundreds of emails to reply to.
So please forgive me if you’re one of them. My rule of replying to EVERY SINGLE email is becoming the bane of my existence. I don’t want to be “that guy” who gets too big to reply to everyone…but…ugh.
Anyways. The Script for Issue 13 is almost done. Shold be done mid day.
The Hollywood meetings got postponed for…gasp…2 weeks.
So sorry. No news for a bit.
I hope you all visited Karen’s DA site and said hello.
Tell her how much you love her. Bug her. Prod her.

So I’ve been reading for about a week now and finally got to this page.
Very good work. xP Although the cartoony feel makes me think I’m too old to read it (“This is kid stuff, G-rated and without Jim Carrey’s voice!”), it still is intriguing.
And hey, unless I took too long typing this, I got first comment on this page, too.
Heh, I got first comment yesterday. Guess it’s the im zone.
Hm, Paddington didn’t get undies? :p
Hmmm, I must admit that I like the faces in the actual strip better then these disney-esque facial expressions.
Don’t get me wrong, Disney’s animated movies are generally great, but the facial expressions of the heroes in there are so…. barbie.

Interesting. So, you do the basic modeling first, and then the accessories like clothes come later… good idea! I’ve been playing a little bit with blender, so I can understand a little about what you’re doing, (although I’m still way novice at 3d).
I’m loving these behind-the-scenes pages. It’s always cool to see the beginning stages of something like this!
I also can’t wait to see the guest and fan art, I want to see everybody’s take on the comic.
…and hundreds of emails. Yikes. It really shows how much S. Sava cares about his fans, that he’s trying to respond to all of them.
Hi Chris,
The facial expressions in the pages you see weren’t supposed to be ones used in the strips, but were only used for two things, mouth shapes, in which we needed to create extreme weird mouths for the actual 3D morphs, and two, facial morphs.
I must say, Scott, I really apreciate the effort to give Alex, Dan, and Nicole the oppurtunity to change outfits quite easily. I really get tired of see animated characters in movies, TV shows, and even comics wearing the same thing over and over again. I read that it makes work easier for the artists to help establish a staple image for the character, but come on!
Karen’s pretty good at facial expressions. Gotta hand it to Blue Dream Studios, they’re really good at carrying out the Dreamland Chronicles, no doubt! I really like how they find time in their lives to do all this work for other people worldwide… For me, its a big deal because im a pretty lazy person. =D
u draw pweddy!!! and no need to respond to me…i am always here and you responded to one of my comments previously. Hope ur dad is ok, take care of the fam, with love
Awesomesauce stuff!
Alex looks quite like the guy from Broken Sword, don’t you agree?
This is beautiful! Just absolutely wonderful!
I personally like the drawings like the ones here better than the animated characters. It looks like somebody made a film with the Sims 2 and only did still shots. I feel that the drawings express more emotion and make the characters seem more real and less perfect. For instance-their hair isn’t in the solid chunks that never separate.
I understand how hard it is to make an animated character like that-I’ve tried multiple times and failed. But I do draw people, and I like the freedom that drawing gives you. It’s easier to make small faults that make the characters more human and alive.
I must admit that I started out disliking this comic-but now I can’t stop reading it. So perhaps my views are slightly biased and this is more for children, but I believe that I would enjoy the comic more if the characters were drawn and then colored-like Girl Genius. To me it makes everything more attractive-and I’m not saying you can’t add details in background and stuff like that on the computer, but I don’t believe that it should all be done with the 3D modeler.
Outstanding work!!!
