The Making of Dreamland Page 01…
Well…before I start putting up the guest art and pages…I thought I’d put up some of the making of Dreamland pages that were in the books.
I hope you like them.
Chapter 13 is coming along quite well andΒ I should be starting on pages early next week. I’ll keep everyone up to date on the progress of it all.
Thank you all again for the tremendous outpouring of the well wishes yesterday. I really am so thankful.
I’m working very hard to get ready for another 3 years of Dreamland with you all.
Wish me luck.

Oohh, pretty pages. You can also see how the characters developed from there. Wanna see more now….as well as reassurances of Felicity’s survival. ;D
Woohoo! First time bein’ first!
2nd time being third comenter.
its not even friday yet
@wynnefredd: Sometimes one’s bound to get a hit by luck, huh? *fg*
besides, fine art this is. I def’tly should go on and wrap some of my evil ideas up. ];->
who’s the rabit???
Wow… I got this feeling of deja vu… π (Okay, I’ll admit it… I have the dead tree edition) This is still quite interesting and entertaining.
I don’t know why, but somehow I like that style better than the 3D one. I hope you’ll forgive me for saying that. I just think it’s more lively… I’m just an old school comic reader, so I guess it can’t be helped.
I recently “discovered” Little Nemo in Slumberland myself. It’s an obvious influence on Dreamland…other than the name. Really solid stuff if anyone hasn’t seen it yet.
I always enjoy seeing the “behind the scenes” stuff for comics, so this is a real treat. Those sketches are really dynamic!
Good luck man, REALLY eager to find out what happens next!
By the way, that version of Nicodemus is rockin’! It looks old fashioned but in a really hard to define super cool way, like it was actually FROM one of those classic 80’s films, which coming from me is a big compliment. π
Oh wait I remember now, that thriller film, Cat’s Eye!!! Yeah, he reminds me of that little goblin/troll thing at the end. You got style Scott, I never thought a dragon could remind me of that guy. ^_^
Whoa, that’s neat…(0,0)
I love seeing the “making” of comics, and hearing how they came about. ^_^
I agree. This comic needs more rabbit.
My sister bought my baby a copy of Little Nemo on video and I was thinking “Hey?”, then comes the hint that part of the inspiration for Dreamland was Little Nemo.
BTW, even if you get ahead, if you have some decent guest strips in the bag, go ahead and use them up to get a bit further ahead. I can say this even though I want to drag the entire story out of you right f’ing NOW! So it must be good. π
Ya know, it’s really cool getting to see the progression that’s led to what DC is today.
That said: Nastajia looks like a demented fairy in that second to last panel. π
Little Nemo! never did get to see many of the comics, but there was always the video game and movie.
very cool to get some insight
Woah, your art pages are *way* better than your cgi.
+1
Aww man!! You mean I have to wait to see what happens to Felicity!? Your makin’ me anxious! π
Those painted pages are so pretty!
Love these “making of” pages. Please post more of them while you’re working on the new chapters.
Wish you the best of luck. Every page of your comics is amazing. You are like, the best dad ever XD
Scott, have you ever timed yourself on how long it takes to do a single completed page? That should be interesting to know. (At least, I would like to know….)
This is fantastic, Scott! I think Dreamland would have been a huge success in what ever style you chose. Your creativity is what shines through!
What? I only have three more years of Dreamland? Thats the worst news Ive heard all day….
π
Huh…I was thinking that Peter Pan had some influence but I guess not :O
I have to say I like the way Nic looks here, better than the way he does now. I dunno, his beak just kinda bothers me in his current form. But this is fantastic! I love the expressions and the coloring~~~ I am super excited for the new chapters that are to come!
That’s cool, thanks for sharing, and I’m glad to see something you’re worked on so long, turn into something for you. I’ve got some scrap pages I hope turn into something some day.
In 2D or 3D, Dreamland rocks!!! \o/
I honestly really prefer the 3-D style. It’s what attracted me to the comic in the first place. It’s orginal, refreshing, and it looks like Claymation.
I love this comic. It reminds me of how my little sister and I thought that waterstains on the ceiling of our closet were a map to a fairy world π Keep up the good work, I admire your art skills!
Where’d the flying Bunny go?
What’s happened to chapter 13 … it’s been weeks π
I didn’t know Nemo was a comic! I watched that movie a million times when I was a kid. I loved it!
Same, with the 3d comic sometimes the bodies and stuff get messed up.
I like the drawings better than the comic itself. I don’t mean any offense, it just seems to have s bit more of the artist’s personality in it.
I like the actual comic much better, though this is definitely interesting…. Nastajia is much more beautiful in the real thing π
I was wondering why all of this seemed so familiar!
Little Nemo in Dreamland…. I remember watching the animated movie of that story as a little kid, it moved me beyond anything I thought possible.
I also like the ‘RL’ take on things from Dan, taking a viewpoint that perhaps all those stories, religions and cultural takes (the story of peter pan for instance) on dreams might come from one and the same source.. dreamland!
