Page 776…
Well first off thank you all for the comments on yesterday’s page.
I went back and fixed it/changed it.
Please go back a day and see the newer last two frames.
Now compare to yesterday’s ORIGINAL page…
To clarify. Daniel was NEVER going to punch Nicole. It was intended to be more of a comical “POW, ZOOM! TO THE MOON ALICE!” type of thing. “WHY I OUTTA!”
Anyways. It didn’t work. And you guys were a wonderful help.
i hope you like the new one.
Now on to TODAY’S page. I kind of like this page. It has some nice moments. So if you don’t like it. I don’t care. NYAH! I’m not changing it!
😛
We’re 2 more days until I leave for Philadelphia! I really can’t wait to go to Philcon. I’ve never been a special guest before. They’re being so nice and everything. I will have books, toys, and paddington plushes.
No felicity or alexander figures (though I will show prototypes).
Please do come by or tell someone in the area you know who may be interested.
More information in the blog below.
And of course…I’m going to paste the information about the sale again. For those who weren’t here on Friday or Monday….or Tuesday.
Thank you all who have ordered stuff from the store.
I’ve done everything I can to accomodate your needs. I hope there’s enough selections to make everyone happy.
We’ve sold 1/3 of the Paddington plushes already. WOW! So if you’re on the fence…in only 2 days…we’re already 1/3 sold out of them.
This doesn’t mean we can’t get more…just maybe not by Christmas.
Also…please remember that we do NOT have the Felicity and Alexander figures in yet. We’re still waiting for them so any orders with them in it will be delayed.
And lastly…please PLEASE PLEASE don’t forget to add your characters you want sketched and if you want the book personalized (and to whom) when you check out. There’s a box. Fill it.
Here’s a recap from Fridyay…
Felicity and Alexander are on their way here.

Make sure you check out the savings. It’s a lot.
I want you all to have these before they all go to the distributor.
This page goes up on my birthday, and happens to be one of my favorite ones yet… good job! 🙂
Poor, poor nicole. She just needs to take a few moments to breathe, and think. All she’s doing is stressing herself more.
Why is it so amusing to see Nicole get so frazzled? x3
Yeah, keep it up Nicole. *Clearly* there’s a logical explanation for it all. Really. Well, other than possibly Alex is telling the truth, but who are we kidding, right? The boy’s got mental problems. And his brother, egging him on. Tsk…shameful, really. Oh, and let’s not forget his little cousin, either. Alex really should know better than to try to convince a youth into helping him in his little schemes. *smirks with a sardonic grin
Something in our milk eh?… Skeeeeeeptical…
Aw. Alex is no longer restraining Dan. 🙁 Man… Nicole is really trying to talk her way out of this… she’s snapped and I think Dan’s recognized it.
I love today’s page, and I love the rework on yesterday’s.
Awesome work!
probably the best page so far, at least on “our” side of the world
I like how you went back and added the speech bubbles. One of the downsides to 3D comics like this is that they’re not as good as some media at depicting movement; the emotive bubbles are a well-executed workaround.
😆 I love today’s page. Nicole totally just snapped. 😛 Something in their milk? Hahaha.
I thought yesterday’s original page worked well; I got the whole “why I oughtta…!” feeling from it, but then reading some comments, I realised it /could/ be taken seriously, I s’pose… so I really like the redo. ^_^ I think both versions work. 🙂
-Any
I don’t want to be the boring one, but I kind of liked the first version of yesterday’s page better. In one way, it shows that Alex has “grown up” a bit since the beginning of the comic. It’s hard to explain exactly how I mean… I actually understood that Daniel wasn’t going to punch Nicole 😉 but at least in my way of thinking, Alex wouldn’t have been prone to stop him in the beginning of this adventure.
Poor Nicole. How dare she put any trust in reason and not take everything people might ever say on faith.
->Anon: Duh. She’s a scientist. If she believed anything a person said, then she wouldn’t be. You need cold hard proof to make a scientist believe something.
->Squirrel King: Yep. They are definately (sp) up to something mischievious.
OK, now I’m starting to become disappointed in her. A true scientist knows that there’s never an explanation for *everything*. As Albert Einstein said, “If we knew what we were doing, it wouldn’t be called ‘research’!”
Good change! I really thought he was going to hit Nicole. (Hitting a woman isn’t what I expect from a gentleman). Now it is more clear what he was going to do.
PS: I’m buying Paddington Plush, Alexander Carter, and Felicity. I already have all the others and I’m waiting for book 3, 4, etc.
anonymous- I don’t think that at this point she *is* putting any trust in reason, but rather is reacting out of prejudice and fear of the unknown. Pure reason says that so many ‘coincidences’ add up to more than coincidence. Reason says ‘investigate’, not ‘grasp at any excuse to deny evidence of what you don’t want to believe.’ I understood her skepticism at first, because there was no evidence, but now that there’s evidence, she should move forward with it. If anything, she is putting too much faith in what ‘everyone knows’.
The rework is definitely much better. I love the last panel now.
Something in our milk? Heh.
Nice rework! It now works better. Also, the last page is cool! Like, hm, rationalizing to the exxtreeeeme!! Heh, nice work
Ah, Nicole is getting desperate…
That’s actually a good sign, because I trust her to be intellignt enough to notice that she is getting desperate and what kind of bullcrap she is currently talking (babbeling might be more appropriate).
She just saw her intellectual building collaps in on itself, and now she just needs to stare at the ruins for a while longer before she can be ready to start sorting them out…
And the new page 775 works a lot better than the old one. This reaction fits Dan’s character a lot better than fisticuffs…
Although Alex holding his brother back was indeed a nice touch, and a slight loss from the old version…
The rework is good, but I thought the first try was interesting, and I am glad you did not add words. As an aspiring author I understand how much work goes into a small piece of a story. I have also learned that a lot more can be said with motion and emotion than with conversation. I think you portrayed the emotion well in both posts, albeit different emotions. But, then again, what the hell do I know? I am eager to see where you take this.
I really like the comic. The time and effort put into it definitely show.
One thing bugs me, though – Nicole’s pink nails and lipstick. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an African-American woman use pink cosmetics. It usually doesn’t work well with dark complexions. I’m sure it’s not a rule, per se, but something to consider.
Keep up the good work!
Awwwww, poor Nicole! Blame the milk, yes, that’ll do it! 😀
Just keep her away from the Latin dictionary, or she might find “felis” for cat! 😉
Something in the milk! HAHA. I can’t believe she used that excuse!
But very good =p and I like the improvement on yesterdays comic. It makes a lot more sense now =]
Hmm… personally I liked version one as well. I could interpret it just the way you explained it in the comment. However, Daniel’s reaction is probably a bit too violent.
I think in this page the speech bubbles are a bit out of place though, but I like Daniel’s reaction more.
I guess you can’t have both.
Boy, that area is sloppier than I realized.
I loved it.
I was recommended this comic recently by a friend, so I’ve just gotten caught up. I do agree with the poster above that Nicole’s lipstick shade is odd considering her complexion, though. Minor gripe.
Thanks Tara! And welcome.
I’d love to hear from some African American women regarding the color choice (of course almost 800 pages in…it’d be hard to change now….but maybe she can choose another color the next day in the book.
You could alwase explane that away as lipgloss or makeup
oh and Dani: Vary few scientist’s are wise enough to realize that and even fewer are collage level
Can I have some of that milk then? 😀
I like the rework, with dan just standing there dazed, i think it works better, nice work. Also, “Something in our milk” .. nice…
Is it normal that every book has four lines of text, than an open space, than another line, than another space, and than back four lines?
And what book is lying whith the front up in the first panel? ‘Cause it sure looks interesting…
Yeah, I think she just needs to really hear herself here and it’ll come around. To me it really strengthens that theory of some traumatic experience in her past…
Looks like I’m the odd man out – as usual – since I like the original version of the previous page better. I understood what was happening there just fine. As for this one, it leaves Alex there doing nothing like some kind of a maniken. Also, I’m not a fan of emoticons in comics; I suppose they’re okay for the Sunday funnies, but this webcomic seems like substantially more than that.
My $0.02,
Gordon
the lighting in the new last two panels looks weird compared to the rest.
common ground for Felicity and a cat-girl? maybe they both played Darkstalkers as a kid…Felicia (Cat-girl). and could combine that with the Catwoman as a thief and somehow create the same basic image in their dreams. At least that’s what I would assume in her shoes.
I looked back on the last page. It definitely works now! It made me laugh out loud. You are so lucky to go to the Philcon! I used to go every year before I moved to the Middle Of Nowhere (Fondly called Iowa)…
I’m not African American, but I have a similar complexion to Nicole (I’m Latina) and I like a warm red or dark brown for lipstick colors. I would never go pink though. It just doesn’t work for that kind of complexion.
I archive all the webcomics I read and I’m keeping the original of the previous page. What I saw was Alex telling Dan to “wait for it …” because he’s unaffected by the “idiot” reference, doesn’t have to rely upon or defend faith or trust as Dan does, and – being undistracted – recognizes Nicole’s disorientation.
Dan is only gesturing. He’d never hit a girl.
I liked the old page from the “drama” it shows, however, from how I got to know Alex and Dan, I’d have thought that reaction of fist shaking more suitable to Alex’ Character than to Dan’s. Alex doesn’t strike me as being the “wise guy, telling his brother to calm down”. It’s not quite in his nature (yet), even though I think he is learning with his relationships in Dreamland and all… but that’s beside this point 🙂
Your Re-Do is MUCH closer to the characters! Alex just staring stupidly (hehe just fits him) and Dan restraining himself – that’s just how I got to know him so far 😉
As always, Scott, great job!
Now she’s just panicking. XD
Giovanna: That’s pretty much the way I think as well. They -are- out of character a bit, but according to me, that’s a good thing. A good character develops, and all the stuff Alex is experiencing in Dreamland, all the responsibility he has to take all the sudden are certain to change him. On the other hand, Daniel is stuck in the “normal” world and Nicole has annoyed him from the very beginning. It wouldn’t be at all surprising if he’s frustrated, would it? Everybody who reads the comic are, at least as far as I can see, quite certain that Dan wouldn’t punch Nicole for real, because we know the character. That’s when you can allow them to step out of character every now and then, to make them more interesting and round.
Sorry. Aspiring author speaking.
You know, Scott, you’re probably heavily dated yourself with that Honeymooners reference. And I wonder how many people actually got it. Maybe that was the problem all along, not enough people know Ralph’s genius!
>_> I liked the original of yesterday’s better. It was more dramatic and more comedic. I can’t really see how anyone would take it as a serious threat, but then again, I live in my own reality. The re-do’s fine, but I think it loses something. Personally, *I*’d like to throttle Nicole.
Hey, Scott, I just read a rumor on some random site that Pet Robots might be in the works for an animated feature. Any truth to that?
Yeah Splinky. We sold that last year and it’s a LIVE ACTION movie.
They just put a writer on it and it’ll hopefully be in production by the summer.

Just wanted to point out that if you come through the archives(i.e hit forward from 2 days ago) it still gives you the old page.
I dunno, I actually think the other one worked better, but that’s me.
Sorry, for double-post…I just thought that I should explain myself. I liked the old page better because of how Dan does sometimes overreact (aka when he found Alex reading through Dreamland Chronicles). Plus, it has a lot of irony with Alex being the “wise one,” which enhances the humor. I have to agree with Kryssie for the most part, especially ad Dan is kind of “competing” with Nicole for smart person in being able to explain the Chronicles. Anyway, over-analyzed I’m sure…
can you imagine the add, felicity on a giant billboard: ‘got milk?’
I would by that milk 😀
[Do the little horns on Dan’s head mean anything? If not, can they <:)]
Anybody else think of Dr. Strangelove when they read the “Something in the milk” line?
Lol! @Ozzie That would be a great billboard!
and then… NICOLE’S HEAD EXPLODES!!!! lol could u imagine XD It’s like those computers getting overloaded because of unanswerable questions and stuff. (somebody prolly said this further up the page lol) I can’t wait to see what happens to her!
Wow, you changed that page? I thought the original worked well, I actually like it better than the newer one.
Apparently people like you and me are in the minority, Ree.
i think the original was ok… I understood it… but the new version fits in better with what we see of Daniel’s personality so far i think =) I like it =)
I think that the last two pannels in the previous comic are much better than they were before. We feel his pain and self control more, biting his tongue before saying something he’ll regret. Bravo!
Ah, so THAT’s the old version. Yeah, I like the new version MUCH better. Dan might be inclined to violence (or just violent displays) with his brother, but it would seem totally out of character for him to display the same inclination with Nicole.
The reference is funny, but the newer version is funnier.
😆
I’m quite sure its the milk =)
No, Alex! You can’t afford to miss classes – you’re already failing as it is you dope!
And, really, Nicole? Leap to conclusions much? They’re two cat-girls named Felicity. Felicity… Feline… really not a stretch to posit it as being a coincidence. Two people invented the telephone almost simultaneously, doesn’t make them psychic. Isn’t she supposed to be a scientist?
