Page 1241…
Happy Wednesday, All!
Thank you so much for the Birthday wishes for Brendan and Logan.
They had a great day, and loved hearing all of the birthday hellos from all over the world.
🙂
Hope you don’t mind the morning updates. It’s been busy with the birthday and all the extra rendering of Monday’s page.
Expect updates tomorrow morning and Friday morning.
Thanks again
Scott
Ah, so it is that Felicity had a bad poker face after all, and Nic still didn’t realize something was up.
No matter how brilliant this idea is, it`s still not a good idea to be this confident in front of a fire breathing dragon. Time to leave guys! I hope you have an escape plan!
I have been reading the comic for a few years and I think this is my first time posting. But I have to say, Nic was a bit too overconfident this time around. Of course the sword was going to help in anyway it can, especially telling them about the spies! I just think it’s great Daniel turned it around on him!
Nick looks like he’s about to freak. Better run, guys.
I love how flabbergasted Nic is. There’s something very priceless about it!
Rule #57 of dungeon crawling: don’t mock the walking flamethrower
The only problem with the battle plan is… no plan ever survives contact with the enemy.
Nic comes off as quite stupid here. Did he not know that the sword records a king’s history?
“the sword told us ALL about them!”
haha, nice hand gesture. 😉
aand, late birthday greetings to your sons from austria. 😉
Maybe not. He’s never been the rightful king, so the sword would never have spoken to him, right?
Why are we not running?
Alex: I’ll explain and I’ll use small words so that you’ll be sure to understand, you scale faced buffoon.
Nicodemus: That may be the first time in my life a human has dared insult me.
Alex: It won’t be the last
Nicodemus: I think you’re bluffing.
Alex: It’s possible, Pig, I might be bluffing. It’s conceivable, you miserable, vomitous mass, that I’m only playing for time to give our army time to regroup. But, then again… perhaps my brother is Arthur’s proper heir after all.
PS – Happy Birthday.
Wait…this seems way to0 easy. If Dragonball Z has taught me anything, it’s to never assume that the bad guy has been beaten the first time (Or the second, or the third…) I’m getting the feeling Nic has something up his sleeve.
LOOK OUT!! I DON’T THINK NIC IS GONNA BE CIVIL FOR VERY LONG NOW!!
Sorry I didn’t see yesterday’s page earlier, Scott! Happy belated birthday to your sons! 😀
I suppose it’s (remotely) possible that none of the previous human kings ever revealed that property of the sword to their advisor …
😉
They seem to be a bit too self-confident.
One fast movement and Nicodemus has the sword in his hands ….
Many happy returns and blessings for the next year!
Nick: “Oh, well then” *Flames the whole room.*
giving your enemy misinformation is better than letting him have no information. especially if he knows already if your up to something. it causes them to waste effort time and resources on something that is not happening while you hit them with something else.
Yeah, besides waking up… that’d probably be bad
Nicodemus: “So, his plans?”
Alex: “Totally fake.”
Nicodemus: “Then you must know the real plans!”
Alex: “Nope, my plans are fake too.”
Felicity: “What? I thought you had the real plan!”
Alex: “No, you had the real plan.”
Felicity: “No, mine was a decoy as well! Did Nastajia have the real plan?”
Alex: “She came up with the more convincing decoy plans!”
Nicodemus: “Do ANY of you actually have a plan?!”
Alex: “Apparently not.” *stab*
Nicodemus: “Ouch.” *thud* “HURRRRK…bleah.”
Felicity: “Well, that works.”
brilliant!
Hey, so, maybe we don’t goad the ancient fire-breathing dragon while in his own lair surrounded by his dark minions?
Just a thought.
Thanks for the wonderful laugh.
Once again, Silverwolf FTW! LOL
Shazam- well played.
Alex, now’s the time to RUN AWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!
But Nic doesn’t have any sleeves! He’s, like, totally nekkid! =O *gasp!*
The first thing that came to mind when I read today’s update:
It would be kinda hilarious if Nic himself was faking it in that last panel and has a backup plan up his scaly “sleeve.”
That would make him a very good actor!
correction: the first and third panels. Especially the first! haha
And fluteman, we have the same pic! 😀
And you guys are telling this why?
Nic – “Well, this is quite embarrassing.”
Alex – “Surrender now and you can leave in peace.”
Nic – “However, you seem to have forgotten that I am a dragon.”
Alex – “Er…”
Nic – *fire breath*
Nic – “Now, let’s go see about that princess…”
I see I’m not the only one thinking along these lines. That will teach me not to read the comments before I add my own.
Austria? What a coincidence, I live there XD And i thought i was probably the only reader from these parts… well, i was wrong.
Even if Nicodemus did know that the sword could record history, he might not have known how much the sword told to Alex. Alex had to undergo a lot of training before the could master the sword. Nic might have assumed that Alex hadn’t gotten that far yet.
True, the sword did speak in front of Nicodemus but that doesn’t necessarily mean it was ready to tell Alex all of it’s secrets yet.
Remember kids: Do not taunt dragons in person, for you are crunchy, and taste good with ketchup. This is why people invented the Internet.
There’s just something I like about this page…
…
Maybe it’s that Nic has finally had the tables turned on HIM?! 🙂
I feel like Nick is bluffing as well here, somehow…I half expect the next strip to be him saying, “Well, of course! Which is why I have (insert brilliant scheme here) prepared for just this eventuality!” Watch out for trouble, guys…never double-cross a double-crosser.
Exactly my thought as well. 🙂
Hahahahaha! 😀
I can understand that I’m not the only one here suspecting that it’s Nic turn to fake surprise to this turn of events.
Maybe, as we see the Dwarves enter the battle “when all seems doomed”, there is a “plan b” from Nic involving the “last reserve” entrance of Nighmare Realm creatures, as I remember an old pact between Nic and the master of the NR in a previous Nic-wraiths conversation.
Just a thought.
We’ll see in the next pages.
Keep up the good work Scott!
Not until Alex sheathes the sword in Nicodemus’s liver.
What I’m wondering if my sense that Nic really isn’t the big evil for this strip, but its the still unseen master of the wraiths will prove true and if so in what timeline. Through the way this conflict unfolds and how his ‘allies’ react, Nic may ‘waken’ to the kind of king Arthur was, and who he’s sided and modeled his behavior off of since taking the throne.
Nicht nur du. Ich bin aus dem Land gleich links neben dir.
TO THE PAIN!
As I like to say when I get someone to bite on a practical joke…
“Bait. Hook. Line. Sinker. Pole. BOAT.”
*ahem*
Called it!!
I wonder if they have a fallback plan for Alex waking up
Mocking a living dragon. Very good idea. I’m pretty sure the outcome will be rather Tolkienish.
Could it be a double bluff? Have Nic get his troops ready to dispel plan “A”, tell him they knew he knew about plan “A” so he calls his troops out of order to tackle plan “B” (improvising and breaking ranks), only to keep moving forward with plan “A”, which by this point Nic’s troops are too disorganized to combat effectively…
“It does not do to leave a live dragon out of your calculations, if you live near him.” – J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit
…or if you are standing next to him…. 🙂
Please check out this link to view the euology of another one of the great fantasy writers of our time, Brian Jacques. If you like TDC you’ll like his “Redwall Series” RIP Brian Jacques.
…and Scott: sorry I don’t mean to steal any thunder. But your boys are at the PERFECT age for these books.
NO. Monologues. Especially when standing by your arch enemy. It’s just like begging for a really painful black eye.
The past few days have been glorious levels of Princess Bride awesome…and this is waaaay up towards the top. 😀
lol! XD
heehee, i knew the sword to tell them about nic’s little spies. always good to a an ancient talking sword to have your back.
[a href=http://thedreamlandchronicles.com/the-dreamland-chronicles/chapter-15/page-1042/”]But I thought he couldn’t keep the sword[/a]…he had it in his hands once before, but it belongs to Alex. [a href=”http://thedreamlandchronicles.com/the-dreamland-chronicles/chapter-15/page-1045/”]When Alex wakes, the sword goes with him.[/a]
Boo…my links did not work…
Well, long messy post short, the sword belongs to Alex in a more deeply connected way than Nic can affect by simply taking it.
And that’s when Alex pulls another move like the one on this page…
http://thedreamlandchronicles.com/the-dreamland-chronicles/chapter-06/page-363/
Oh great, Alex is monologuing and explaining his plans. He’s doomed.
Mocking a dragon. Really.
You’re mocking a dragon who’s right on YOUR room and quite pissed at you.
Alex, sweetie, I know you are Courage, but you have to remember that paper on 101: Crispy&Crunchy Adventurers on last week’s exams!
(oi…¬¬ )
I have a nasty feeling with Nic.
I mean, I am rooting for the good guys, but
-We don’t know if Nic himself know magic (baaad, baaad thing to come up now).
-We also don’t know how efective the Wraiths really are in the Super Espionage subject and how foretelling they can be… we don’t even know their full powers!
-And we can’t forget that the Living Red Scaly Flamethrower was after all, the *advisor* to Arthur Pendragon!!! I mean COME ON… surprised, yes, but dude… if you hanged around Julius Caesar for a while, you learn everything there is to know about double-crossing and improvising.
So much tension… Sava, daaaamn you, you are goooood! 😀
P.s.: ¡Feliz cumpleaños a tí, feliz cumpleaños a tí! ¡Feliz cumpleaños Logan y Brendan, feeeeeeliz cumpleaños a tí! ¡Braavoooo! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Felicidades Scott, que sean sanos y felices muchos años más.
Later, in a bar…
Nic: So now I’m in deep trouble. I mean, one more surprise like that and I’m an epitaph. I am all but freaking out and what does Baron von Clueless do?
Wraith: [laughing] He starts monologuing.
Nic: He starts monologuing! He starts like, this prepared speech about how *feeble* I am compared to him, how *inevitable* my defeat is, how *the world* *will soon* *be his*, yadda yadda yadda.
Wraith: Yammering.
Nic: Yammering! I mean, the guy has me on a platter and he won’t shut up!
FNORD????
The really, really smart person who’s teachers got tired of you answering their questions?
I drew an infinity symbol in the snow today; do you recognize the significance of that?
Back on topic. I am always eager for your updates, Mr. Scott.
This is really awesome. Um, Happy belated birthday, boys.
I have a feeling Nick about to unleash his own backup plan. Like mentioning that he holding Nastajia’s parents hostage and threaten to have them killed if they don’t give up now
I love your witty dialogues :D!
Incredibles ftw!
Um yeahh in your face Nic! O.O Though I agree with others, he too might have his own trap on the side >.<
The thing that seems to have surprised everyone is that it records history in the real world as well.
You need to use rarther than [].
I mean the greater than and less than signs rather than square brackets.
Hmmm… any chance the merfolk of Naroobi will make a similar surprise attack, like the dwarves?
She’s in another castle, unfortunately.
“And now Nicodemus, we are going to implement the most cunning and intelligent part of the plan… It is called operation RUN AWAY!”
Ah, you son of Skywise! Once again you make me laugh! 😆
In your ugly face, lizard!
Very good call!
Say what you will, everyone, but Felicity in the last panel?
Nicodemus, you got SERVED!
Say what you will, everyone, but Felicity in the last panel?
You got SERVED, Nico. 😀

haha, zufälle gibt’s. 😉
Don’t just stand there and be smug about it. Time to bail!
Of course Nico has a few things up his scaly sleeves–this is only chapter, what, 16? Out of 24? That still leaves over 1/3 the story. He’s not going to go down easily.
For a while the comment box had a caption that mentioned the usable formatting–which was more helpful to remind me to use the \ than for the specific codes to use.
That is, to use the < > (less than and greater than signs). SHEESH!
Hah! Worked that time!!
All I can think of is that the allies have some further plan, which needs more time to develop. Either that or maybe Alex is getting too smug again….
Hey all.
We got snowed in last night…and Logan’s sick.
So please forgive me if today’s page gets to you in a couple more hours.
Sorry
It’s already near 18:00 (6 pm) here in the Netherlands… Funny, when you update around midnight we get them in the morning, when you update in the morning we have to check again around dinner. What time zone are you in?
No problem though, take your time.
I do love the most stupid face I’ve ever seen a dragon make! NICE!
Yup, here in Europe when Scott updates in his morning it’s usually not available before late afternoon, unfortunately (though today he has the problem of his son being sick of course).
If I have Nic’s personality correctly pegged down, he’ll laugh and be somewhat relieved his opponent isn’t as stupid as he thought. Then of course he’ll improvise something.
Yeah, that’s what concerns me. Alex has just tipped his hand as to his methods/resources, info Nic can use from now on (though it may inhibit/curtail his reliance on the wraiths). Of course, the sword was privy to Nic’s monologue as well. Dan though is vulnerable to physical attack as retribution, especially when darkness falls. Be careful, guys.
Here comes the bad news
Will you two KINDLY with your “Fred and Daphne just wrapped up another mystery” look of PURE SMUG and get ready already, preferably BEFORE Nic there decides to cough up another combustible loogie?!? 😀
Errr, that was meant to be ‘… *quit* with your…’ I blame lack of sleepy 🙁
Because we’re sitting at a computer reading a…oh, you mean them…
And the award for the most CONVENIENT plot twist goes to,,
