Great pages, Scott! I don’t comment on here as often as I should, but I’ve been following for a couple years now (wow, it’s been a LONG time for me, too) and your comic is always amazing. I can’t believe how big your kids are, too. I remember the photos when they were dressed up for Halloween a couple years ago. What a big difference! Thanks for sharing =)

Yeah, it’s pretty nice to see Alex showing some humility, and even better for him to give some praise for his brother.
I think that Alex and Felicity will have to start to worry about Nic’s reaction after this turn of events.
Sure Nic is an old and wise (yet evil) Dragon and I think that it is not so clever for the two to act like nothing is going on.
The taste of victory is sweet now for Alex and he can smile and make jokes to Nic but i will be very surprised if Nic will leave Astoria without a proper fight or something.
Maybe a fiery flight upon the invading troops?
Or a “bossfight” between Alex and Nic?
What say you Scott?

Hopefully there’s a part of the plan for dealing with an annoyed, fire-breathing DRAGON in his face.
The thing I love about this comic is the brotherly love that so often gets thrown out the window in favor of things like “make out buddies” or whatever. This page is powerful for me in that even when Dan isn’t around, you know his presence is there, just from the way his little brother speaks about him. That is true love, and I am so happy to see it here in your comic! <3
Also your boys are so adorable! I can't wait until I have kids of my own. I suppose I'll just have to let my babysitting job be as close as I can get so far until I'm married! <3

Your family is adorable Scott. My “little” guy, Dylan, enters double digits in August, YIKES! Speaking of which we started reading the DLC books together about a week ago and he has dived in headfirst and actually read most of Book 2 on his own. Which considering he doesn’t like to read (though he is good at it) is awesome! He is loving every second of it, thank you!
As for the story, I think Nic is a wee bit angry and I hope that Felicity has a way to protect from his fiery breath. I know the armor will protect Alex….

Alex & Dan really make a good team, don’t they? Though Alex is, interestingly, making the classic villain mistake of explaining things to a foe he considers beaten far too soon. Hopefully, Felicity has the sense to shut him up.
Nico’s likely to fly away and regroup at this point, after all. Pointing out how great your planner is may just be a VERY bad mistake – especially when he is your ONLY planner…

Alex’s explanation might be to assure us that Dan was showing Nicole the false plans, and as long as he keeps his mouth shut after that, I’m sure it’ll be fine. I don’t know if the war will last more then one night but I trust Alex and Dan won’t discuss the real plans when he’s awake.

Um, Alex? Isn’t there an old saying? Something about not bearding the lion in his own den? I hope there’s a contingency plan for when ol’ Nic cuts loose, ’cause he sure looks some kinda ticked off right about now.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I think the arrangement should be reversed in panel 3.
In other words, in panels 1 & 2 (looking OUT the window) Alex is on the left & Nick is on the right. However, in panel 3 (looking IN the window) Alex is still on the left & Nick is still on the right. In panel 3, it seems to me (as the audience) that Alex should be further to the right pointing left (instead of right) to Nick who would be off the edge of the picture (to the left because of the change in perspective).
Maybe I missed character movement or misunderstood character placement, or maybe you could pull back so we could catch a glimpse of Nick on the left (instead) if I’m correct. It looks like you got the chest placed correctly: in panel 2 the chest (barely visible) is to the left of Alex, and in panel 3 the chest is to the right of Alex.
Anyway, I love the story. I hope the film is faithful to the story & tone, and isn’t degraded by the adaption and the typical poor taste so prevalent today (bathroom humor, character rudeness, scathing put downs, cursing, immorality, glorification of violence, horror, etc.). In my humble opinion, Dreamland Chronicles holds close to the classic ideals I love in fantasy & fairy tales — and is a rare beauty to be upheld.
Please stay true, and keep up the good work.

I wouldn’t necessarily call Nicodemus evil. He’s not in it for himself, but for the welfare of Dreamland.
What he really is, is misguided. I get the feeling that there will be a point where he sides with Alex against the real evil.

That part’s easy…his magically-appearing-just-when-he-needs-it-most shield that is a part of his armor should work just fine. 🙂 It saved him and Nastajia before.
*nudges towards the archives* Alex’s armor makes a nifty shield that will save them (if he remembers to throw his arm up in defense again)…I hope!

I would’ve liked to see Alex point with the blade as opposed to with his finger. I feel as though that it would’ve added a more serious tone to the page. But I can sense the tension building, so keep it up!

Yeah, well… the question is if Nic hasn’t spared the NR Beasts (his airforce) as a reserve to counter anything like this. Or even more reserves.
Astoria does look incredibly undefended, considering that Nic had so much info beforehand to prepare.
That is ominous.
I’m guessing that, given the history, Alex’ instructions are to give Nick a chance to surrender, as he DID serve prior kings of Dreamland for a very, very long time without fail.
I would be surprised if Nick took the offer… but it’s not entirely beyond my ability to conceive. He’s going to realize that even his ghosty bird-minions have been totally pwned by Dan’s strategy, and that Alex’ presence there does NOT mean he’s vulnerable; he knows that Alex’ sword is one of the things that could kill him, and Alex has been getting trained with it.
And he probably knows or suspects that whoever REALLY runs the Nightmare Realm is going to make a play for Dreamland when this battle has ended, because at that point the Dreamlands are going to be at their weakest point. Having a Dragon on the side of the Dreamlands, combined with Dan’s strategies, AND stopping the battle before the maximal damage is done, could put Nick in an overall better position.
However, I rather expect his pride (and guilt) will force him to fight on.
There’s a difference between the lies we tell ourselves, and the real truth. The fact is that Nicodemus is evil, and he is out for himself, but he made it easier on himself by telling himself that lie. I’m sure he really believes he is acting in the best interests of Dreamland right now, but his tactics reveal the real Nick.

I know this is a few days late for this particular page, but I just wanted to tell you how much I love this page in particular. It’s really striking for me to see how highly Alex thinks of his brother Dan. There is so much sibling rivalry shown in TV and in movies now, that I find it really nice to see how mutually Alex and Dan seem to care for one another. I hit a rough age when my brother was around 3 or 4 and though before that he really was sweet and adored me, I ended up pushing him away (you know those childish phases) and we’ve had sibling rivalry ever since. I’ve always regretted that and even though we are on good terms with each other now, I feel like I’ve wasted a lot of years that I could have spent getting to know him better. But I feel like I’m starting to ramble here… Just know Scott that I appreciate your comic and I feel that it sets a really good example for many. Keep up the good work!
