Btw I look forward to the new postings every day. I don’t quite know why. HA! I think that it has something to do with the fact that we know (possibly) how the story will eventually play out, but how in the heck does it get there? That’s the hook. It’s those quirky details and the competitive comments. (Everyone vying for the funniest post)
This is gonna be interesting. I don’t feel as confident now about Alex’s chances as Felicity did… Or is it all a big ruse?
I’m hoping for the latter. Nico needs to be “one-upped”. All this lying and cheating, it’s not good for your health, man!
Why is it that everybody thinks the battle plan is dumb? I’m sorta hoping/waiting for a last-minute elvish Black-Ops team to come in, take out the guards and be generally awesome. Also, why can’t Paddington aim? 🙁 He’s still my fav though.
Thanks for all your hard work Scott, and for brining us this amazing comic free at like 4-7 pages a week. I’ve tried it and I know how long it takes to do a page (me like 1-2 hours for linework) so you are amazing.
As a guy with three brothers, I recognize the fact that Nicodemus just made one of the worst mistakes that he could possibly make. Brothers have a code that says that they can fight and insult each other as much as they want, but if anybody else does anything to them, it is over. This is especially true because of the fact that Alex values Daniel’s brain over everything else, so insulting his brother’s intelligence to that level should awaken a fire in Alex that Nicodemus couldn’t possibly imagine. Insulting Alex is one thing, bringing Daniel into it is another, and Nicodemus must pay.
Obviousloy Daniel is smart so his plan cannot be primitive. Therefore it was a “fake” intended to be spied on. Nic confirms he did get the bait and believe it. Hence it proves the plan using a simplistic fake worked. Hence Daniel did it right again.
So Alex will thanks Nic for complimenting his brother 🙂
Nicodemus: You’ve lost. Your plan…. your brother’s plan… was childish, infantile.
Alex: This may be true.
Nicodemus: Then why are you smiling?
Alex: Because I know something you don’t know.
Nicodemus: What is that?
Alex: I am no left handed… I mean, that was not the actual plan
Felicity: Oh, and you killed King Arthur, prepare to die.
SQUEEEEE! Yes ?Yes?Yes? *jumps up and down in anticipation* Scott? Am I getting my “Inconceivable”???
I …. am afraid Alex is about to explain to Nic that he has been “had”…BAD!
Orr.. Alex is gonna say :”I… sorta’ drew that plan..You don’t like it? Well now, I got news for You. there is another one..waaaay better… made by my brother, and it’s in motion now”
Well there wouldn’t be that much suspense if Nic had let Alex finish. I have to wonder what Alex was going to say. Nic obviously thought Alex was going to say no so he interrupted him. For all Nic knew Alex could have been about to say “I give up”. Alex should say “Well I was going to give up but now that you insulted my brother you die.”
The interesting part of the story might be that Nic is actually right with what he said to Alex.
Maybe there is no “plan B” and Alex have to decide for himself for the first time.
A great burden for someone immature like Alex.
Maybe this will be his “maturity passageway”.
He can aim. He’s been -trying- to miss. Yay for being from a race of pacifists. 🙂
Personally…I’m hoping that right about now a boulder will come whizzing in to smack Nic through the window…followed by a cut back to Paddington and Nastajia where he says “There…I hit something like you asked.” 😛
I don’t think so. Besides if Nick only knows of false plans then it would be right for him to say that because Alex and Dan really put one over on him. Two college kids beat out a dragon who has been living and breathing politics for over a thousand years.
I’ve just had a thought!! I think Nic’s wraiths heard ALEX’S (or at least his version of the) plan- not Dan’s! The question of childish and infantile that’s been thrown up I reckon considering Alex isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed surely his ideas would be put down like that.
And they did a switcheroo. 🙂
(My rate of getting things right isn’t great but in this instance I hope so, cause that would be magic!)
I’ve been expecting a serious case of bait & switch where the plans are concerned for some time now. & I keep hoping that a flying boulder will sail through the window & pin “ld Nick down long enough for his head to be chopped off.
Pfah! I am old enough to have been taught english without the help of an on-line thesaurus.
Words like that were a favourite amongst english teachers for sudden written tests.(I still prefer to use dead trees as dictionaries 😆 )….
That’s what I think too. There is a plan B that Big Ole Nicky has not become aware of. I’ll bet it’s even going on as he wastes time trying to get the sword.
I also have the feeling that the reason he’s being so insistent in ASKING for the sword instead of taking it by force is that he can’t really get it unless it is surrendered to him. True, he can grab it, but if the righteous king surrenders it, it would become his, and he’d become the rightful and lawful King of Dreamland.
There are words that we use over and over again, like a speech signature, whether we realize it or not. TO say that Nicks speech signature can’t include the word inconceivable would be INCONCEIVABLE!!! (with quality inconceivability, as per lake_wrangler) 😉
I don’t know why everyone keeps thinking this is all a ruse. Maybe the wraiths DID find out all about Daniel’s plans, and Nick has everything in control. The challenge is how Alex will get out of this one. The ending will be so much more satisfying when the heroes fail the first time. Then when they finally beat Nic, it will be like, YEAH!!!!
But the heroes have BEEN failing. Pretty much universally. The only thing to slow down Nic so far has been the self-sacrifice of every dwarf in Dreamland, and well, we haven’t seen any dwarves lately, but the dragon is still going strong.
I think I used up all my Palpatine quotes…So a bit of recycling!
“It was I who allowed the Alliance to know the location of the shield generator. It is quite safe from your pitiful little *band*. An entire *legion* of my best troops awaits them. Oh, I’m afraid the deflector shield will be quite operational when your friends arrive.”
Hard to believe there have been 50,000 comments here.
And now, for some maths …
Let’s see, Dreamland has been online for about 5 years … that’s 10,000 comments per year, or a rough average of about 27 comments per day – probably a bit more if you factor out weekends and missed days, so let’s say 30 per day to make the math easy.
Now, according to Scott, only about 1% of readers actually post comments. Imagine if every person who reads TDC posted one comment each day. 3,000 comments per day … 1,000,000 per year … and lacavin’s comment would have been the 5,000,000th comment, assuming we hadn’t long since crushed the site under our weight!
And, of course, I would probably get fired from my job and end up being hospitalized because of spending every waking moment trying to keep up with reading all the comments. I guess there are some good points to the low ratio of commenters to readers …
That would be ridiculously awesome.
Except that the wall is faaar away from the castle, and the castle tower is extremely high up. I don’t think that this is possible.
what…what?!! i clicked the page and the same page kept reappearing and i just now realized i reached the end of the archive; after beginning this comic days ago, spending all my free time reading, im left with this cliffhanger?!! scott whyyyyyyy???
Late? Late? Someone who has consistantly updated DAILY is worried about one comic possibly being an hour or so late? Scott, really, don’t sweat it, none of us will fall over dead if its a little late(it is a cliffhanger after all :)) – your not late, your stretching the tension a little!
Oh, and since Dan is everything BUT infantile . . . heh heh heh – I think this is gonna be good.
Alex: Nicodemus, is that a sixth finger on your claws?
Fesick: “Poor nicodemus doesn’t notice the FLAWS”…
Wesley: “Fesick, you’re supposed to be in our movie over there…”
Fesick: “you know, I bet the readers don’t even CARE”
No, Nicodemus insulted Daniel. His words show that he doesn’t understand Daniel’s true capabilities, but he definitely insulted Daniel, and thus, must pay. It doesn’t matter for brother’s whether the insult was correct, false, or shows the other person fell for a ruse, they still will be held accountable for their words, and will suffer the consequences.
For all the dragon’s boasting, something seems amiss.
The dragon is worried about something, even though he is trying to dismiss the plan and mess with our hero’s head.
Whether its something in the sword or maybe the army pounding on the front door, things are NOT all going Nic’s way and he knows it, but he needs to put up the show or things will just crumble faster.
I mean, he’s got the tablet smashed, Alex and Felicity more or less cornered, could crush them or toast them at any point and what does he do? He starts monologuing! I mean he has me, and he won’t shut up!
So did Daniel sneak away with the message bag to write the real battle plans allowing Nic’s crew to believe the things being recorded by the sword were the plans?
I just see no hint of a one up option in that they out thought the wrath unless the story teller didn’t show us the wrath plotting for drama.. I see a option of Princess Nastajia being a brilliant leader or Nicodemus underestimating his ability in combat.
You do bring up an interesting point. Everyone assumes that Dan, knowing about the Wraiths, fooled them with a false plan. This begs the question, however: How?
How would you feed false information to beings from another world whose abilities are only dimly understood? I mean, can they become invisible, or are they just really good at hiding in shadows? And what other abilities might they have that weren’t highlighted in the sword’s tale?
I don’t know about Dan (he may well be smarter than me), but I would be hard pressed to come up with a fake plan and a real plan in a way that ensured that the Wraiths only saw the fake plan.
(This point has been nagging at the back of my brain for a few days now … )
😉
Not sure why the Rock golems wouldn’t want to aim at the base of the wall. The whole idea would be to punch holes in the wall, not hit combatants. And rock golems would be even more effective than catapults in that regard.
Although, I think this whole thing has to be taken with a grain of salt….anything huge and made of solid rock could just go up to the main door and smash right through it, and then become an unstoppable killing force inside. If the bad guys didn’t have something going for them, they’d realistically be extremely outmatched in this fight.

aaaaaaaand 1st!!!

Can I phone a friend?

Sorry had to add: this is comment 50000 according to the URL 😀
Yeay!
hehe I think they’re putting up a show for Nic — especially after exchanging amused looks!
I’m just waiting for Nic to say, “C’mon, I called your brother’s plan infantile. I BROKE THE TABLET!!! … you can react now. Please?”
Nic: The plan was a ruse? INCONCEIVABLE!
Here comes the booyah… HERE COMES THE BOOYAH!
Let Alex finish! Don’t be a rude usurper! I am waiting with eagerness on how all this turns out.
Epic win! I love it!
Hey, this is page “1234”! That’s cool!
Please don’t first post :S
Alex only said “I”. How many pages, before he completes the sentence ? Way too much suspense ….

For all Nic knew Alex could have been about to say “I give up”. Alex should say “Well I was going to give up but now that you insulted my brother you die.”
Geez, Nick, you don’t even give him a chance to say more than one syllable before you assume he’s not surrendering.
Empires have fallen because of interruptions like that.
Ok, no they haven’t. I just made that up.
The interesting part of the story might be that Nic is actually right with what he said to Alex.
Maybe there is no “plan B” and Alex have to decide for himself for the first time.
A great burden for someone immature like Alex.
Maybe this will be his “maturity passageway”.
But, if there isn’t a first post, there can’t be a second post – right?
He can aim. He’s been -trying- to miss. Yay for being from a race of pacifists. 🙂

Favorite comment EVER!
il primo! 😛
Scott, are you teasing us about a Friday teaser?
Oh, and I think you used the same raindrop in panels 1 and 4. That one, about halfway down, next to the right door frame. 😉
Let’s hear it. Who here wants an “INCONCIEVABLE!” from Nic when he discovers that he’s been fooled by Daniel? 😀
Oh and just to be clear: I do ;P
Nic, don’t insult Dan. That’s a bad idea!
I’ve used “Inconcievable” once already…would it be pushing it to use it again?
You all know how much I WANT to…
You mean to say that there could be some fellow dreamer who could actually object to your using that word again???
INCONCEIVABLE!!!
(As a CRFH!!! boardie, I can attest to the fact that the three exclamation marks stand for Quality inconceivability… 😛 )
If there’s one thing Dan isn’t, it’s a “childish and infantile” strategist. Oh, this is going to be so satisfying.
Can’t wait! CAN’T WAIT!!!
I saw that, too! 😉 😀
Just say incomprehensible instead. We will know what you mean.
I don’t think so. Besides if Nick only knows of false plans then it would be right for him to say that because Alex and Dan really put one over on him. Two college kids beat out a dragon who has been living and breathing politics for over a thousand years.

(My rate of getting things right isn’t great but in this instance I hope so, cause that would be magic!)
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means :p
Notice that Alex uses an ellipsis, not a dash. Nic may have waited several seconds before deciding that Alex wasn’t about to finish the sentence.
I’ve been expecting a serious case of bait & switch where the plans are concerned for some time now. & I keep hoping that a flying boulder will sail through the window & pin “ld Nick down long enough for his head to be chopped off.

I agree.

I thought it suited for my first 🙂
It is of course one of the most quotable of all movies. For example if it was Nastajia and Paddington encountering Nic we might have
Nastajia: Give us the tablet.
Nicodemus: I have no tablet.
Nastajia: Paddington, tear his wings off.
Nicodemus: Oh, you mean this tablet.
Regardless, thanks for the comic, and good luck storming the castle.
Loving every panel, page and day !!!
Keep it coming !!!!!
ummm….they technically have not lost YET! they are still fighting at the castle gates. and who knows the battle could still turn around.
Agreed! Epic comment!

Hey guys!
SLIGHT delay in Tuesday’s page.
I got caught up in a movie budget meeting…and have not finished the page lettering.
Should be up by about 10am CST.
I promise ALL 5 pages this week.I’ve already got most of them rendered out.
Just a slight delay today.
Sorry.
what…what?!! i clicked the page and the same page kept reappearing and i just now realized i reached the end of the archive; after beginning this comic days ago, spending all my free time reading, im left with this cliffhanger?!! scott whyyyyyyy???
oh and ps. love the comic!
Late? Late? Someone who has consistantly updated DAILY is worried about one comic possibly being an hour or so late? Scott, really, don’t sweat it, none of us will fall over dead if its a little late(it is a cliffhanger after all :)) – your not late, your stretching the tension a little!

Get him in the eye while he’s monologuing, Alex!! Come on!!
The suspense! Looking forward to Tuesday’s page, Scott. Hope your movie meeting goes well.

As always, Scott, you are forgiven for being late. But I do thank you for letting us know the scoop.
Nic is getting desperate.
“Alex, I am your father!”
Silly, that’s the next part of the quote from the movie.
You’ve never seen The Princess Bride? =O Inconcievable!
Whew, finally caught up.
So far, I am enjoying this comic.
Can’t wait to see what will happen next.
I just see no hint of a one up option in that they out thought the wrath unless the story teller didn’t show us the wrath plotting for drama.. I see a option of Princess Nastajia being a brilliant leader or Nicodemus underestimating his ability in combat.
Good one. +50 😀
Don’t you see? This IS how he planned to kill them. ;D

Alex: “If you stop stepping on my lines, maybe I’ll be able to respond!”
Pg 1234 XD hehehe
What an interesting piece of insight. Only the chosen can wield its power.
50,000 and I’ve read all of them…oh god…
