Page 1232…
Hi all…
So sorry about Wednesday’s delay.
My son Logan was sick all day…and I was playing “Mr. Mom”.
Also…I wanted to thank you all again for unblocking the ads.
I know it seems trivial. But the difference has been sensational.
Our income has gone up 10 fold (that’s 10 times, for those who don’t speak “fold”) since I found out people were using ad blockers.
Check 2 or 3 out each day.
Thanks again!
And hopefully I can get back on track for a Friday update.
🙂
Scott
Ugh… well, maybe Orion’s last-minute instructions will be of some help…
Very true, Nick, but that’s no excuse for sending human children to the Nightmare Realm.
I think that now it’s time for the next cliffchanger:
Cue the “There is something that your wraiths didnt tell you Nic” line 😉
Cue the big no and reflexive sword strike that Nic will naturally deflect, disarming Alex and knocking him to the ground, after which Nic will once again state how hopeless the situation is, then the page -after that- will have the big twist nobody will see coming.
…yeah, this way it ends on a perfect cliffhanger for the Friday update. It’ll be epic.
Well……. This sucks…..
No, I’m pretty sure the destruction this time is the big, scary, evil dragon’s fault.
Yeah, we still don’t know what plan they worked out, or what the sword had in mind.
It’s for moments like this that, when I’m running an RPG, I occasionally allow the players to do some planning with me out of earshot. That way they run a chance of throwing me a genuine surprise.
Hey, Alex wasn’t the one who usurped the throne, and invited the nightmare realm to kidnap children.
Well – it’s quite good, that Nic likes to hear his own voice actually. ^^ He gonna spill the beans big time coz of his hankering for big speeches.
Alex seems subdued, but that might as well be because he’s alert up to the tips of his hair.
Yeah – wanna know how this gonna turn out. Scott, what d’ya have in mind? ^^ Cliffhanger by the looks of it. A weekend full of pondering how this could be solved by our dear heroes. ^^
True… they already knew about the wraiths from the sword, so those direct messages were extras to account for them.
I still don’t get why the Nightmare Realm has a problem… if someone goes there, they’re on their own, according to the treaty.
You know what the best part is….
Scott already knows how this ends. LOL
So, he gets to watch us squirm, and ponder, and comment, and see just how well he’s done with his story 😀
Good one, Scott!
Hope Logan’s feeling better!
I can’t see any blood. Even the centaur in third picture, that receive the arrow, has no blood. Why Nick is talking of bloodshed ?
Well it is raining so most of the blood would wash away and it looks like the centaur had just gotten hit. Keep in mind that while Nic’s been talking the battle has been going on so there are probably a few dead dreamlanders. Oh and don’t forget about the dwarves, I’m sure Nic killed a few of them if not most of them when Alex and the others where in the tunnels.
Nic Nic Nic–never boast until AFTER a battle.
you know, something i’ve always wondered is if centaurs have two sets of organs or not, one in the human part and one in the horse part. if not, then what’s taking up space in the human or animal part?
yes, i know “it’s fantasy, who cares”
Yeah..rriiight..Keep talking Nic’, keeeeeep talking..
Never sell a skin before the bear has been shot.(=Dutch proverb..odd, since we do not have bears except in zoos..)
Interesting… Nic says “MY WRAITHS…”
Who is really in charge, or THINKS he is?

Love your comic, thanks for all the hard work and passion you pour into it.
Hope your kid gets to feeling better!
Nick! you have been caught soliloquizing!
… As others have mentioned, I get teh sense Alex may have something up his sleeve… Dan is smarter than that 🙂
They all got shot. 😉
I hope Logan, and everyone else in your family, gets better and stays better!
I’m betting we are going to have a great weekend cliffhanger tomorrow!
Does it count if I open the add in a new window. Do they still know where I clicked from?
That’s a good question. I do think it would be interesting if they had two hearts, and shooting them in the human heart makes them unable to fight, but since the horse heart is stronger, they could still survive, especially since the horse heart is harder to hit and less noticeable. Now that I’m thinking about it, though, the lungs are the most confusing part for me. I’d never really thought about it until you mentioned it, but now I’m really curious, even though it is fantasy.
I think the problem is when the Nightmare Realm people come to Dreamland, not vice versa.
Wonderful! My copies of all books have succesfully crossed the ocean. They look gorgeous! Thanks a lot, Scott, also for the nice sketches!
Laurent
Totally!
And keep in mind that this isn’t “Kill Bill.” You’re not going to get gushing founts of blood and gore in this webcomic–its for all ages.
yeah, the lungs would be problematic–horse lungs would be more fit for things like running, but would they be inhibited by the human lungs since they are more directly connected to the nose and mouth?
and there would be a LOT of intestines involved!
Don’t you know? Bad things are never the villain’s fault–they were always forced to do them by the good side’s incompetence.
And when people are taken there rather than go willingly.
I think so.
I think a middle click opens in a new tab.
Yay!
So glad to hear!
And thank you again for the support!
Hey all!
So far…Logan’s still home…but I got some work done this morning.
Thank you for checking out our advertisers. It really makes a difference every day.
I will definitely have a new page up tonight too.
So only 4 pages this week. My apologies.
Nicodemus: You sly dog! You got me monologuing!
True, true..somewhere in the 12Th. century the Dutch killed the last wild bear in the , then named “lowlands” , apparently
Oh, Scott, by the by. Thanks so much for the book and the (unexpected extra) goodies
I had a good day, curled up on the couch with a large Latte in hand, savoring those touching moments between Felicity and Nicole again…
“Thanks for nothing, you stupid reptile.”
Hmmmmm… Humans always causing the bloodshed in dreamland? Course, the bigotry of a certain dragon toward Humans couldn’t have anything to do with that, now could it…
Hope your son gets well soon, Scott!
Yep, I guess that’s that. But I believe kids are not that sensitive, especially since it’s clearly a tale. I think it would have been funny to put some blood , in “a world of dreams”. At least , some green / blue blood.
Disabling my AdBlock Plus on Firefox 4 Beta 10 wasn’t difficult (just for your site, BTW. Other comics don’t deserve it 😛 ) but now you’re asking too much of me. Clicking on an ad two or three times a day?!
Haha, joking. Glad to hear you got such an increase in income! You know that I, as well as the rest of your loyal readers, will always continue to support you.
I guess time has dulled Nic’s memory, all those Dreamlanders he selectively assassinated in order to acquire and keep the throne. Karma gonna gitcha, Nic.
You know, one of the ads was useful – it lead to the comic “Marooned” – http://www.maroonedcomic.com/
Sorry to hear about your son being sick. Is this the same one that loves Army guys? =)
I thought the Faries were supposed to cover the warriors, but I see a guy with an arrow in his chest.
Yes it is.
Sorry I’ve not had a chance to reply to your email.
I will soon.
Great to hear, Jurgen!
So glad you got them okay!
Thank you again.
More long-term problems might be with the digestion system(s)–how are they hooked up, how does the right food go to the right stomach/intestines, and so on.
Better in the long run to just redesign the whole kit-n-caboodle.
Heh…I’ve actually landed on some good product sites cliking the ads. Who knew they were making such interesting and interactive sites these days just to sell things?
No different than when Arthur was in charge, or thought he was.
Wooooooow… Ain’t ol’ Nick the greatest hypocrite ever? Seriously… I’m pretty sure others have said this, but I’m betting Orion has last-minute instructions from our world that will turn things around 🙂
That’s a perfect line for this scene, pal! 😀
I second that! Not to mention I think the wraiths are controlling Nic… then we’ll find the TRUE evil… 😀
I still believe that all of Alex’s shortcomings are a result of him making a bad choice in character class. Frankly, everyone knows that spellcasters always have it better than the armored melee fighters, period.
So, kids! This is my lesson for you, and I encourage you to learn it well: When you come to a situation where some old dude or chick offers you a suit of cumbersome-looking armor in a strange fantasy world… Remember that there’s no shame in saying: “Thanks, but I think I’d rather pass. Could you teach me some magics, though?”
You know, I just re-read the Chronicles of Narnia books, and in one of them it was mentioned that Centaurs don’t finish their breakfast until late morning…and they start waaay early. Why? Because they have to feed the man and the horse. This means a very large breakfast of all the things we’d find tasty and awesome (because they’re big) followed by a few hours of grazing, apples, and a hot mash. 🙂
LOL! Good reference!
*blinkblink* I just noticed the horse butt in the air. *tries really hard not to laugh at what is a serious moment* I know it’s a centaur that has been hit by the enemy archers…but…it’s a horse butt sticking up in the air!
Sometimes I’m incredibly immature…
stfu nic, your the one that caused this battle by putting dreamland is misery.
i wonder if dan’s last minute plans will change anything?
darn you niccy for being evil and having good looks >I
You know, it just occurred to me to marvel at how well the bows on both sides are performing in the rain. After all, bowstrings, especially those made with medieval / not modern technology (they were usually made of what, catgut? … er, sorry Felicity!), generally do NOT fare well when wet. They usually just stretch until useless.
(Of course, Nastajia’s bow, not having a physical string, would be immune to this … )
It looks like string to me. Was it discussed in comments or somewhere else that she doesn’t have real string on her bow?
Hmm the rock people look to be out of rocks…should they throw each other? lol
Soo… it’s Alex’s fault that kids get sent there? Or am I way off?
Nicodemus: “A human has brought all of this bloodshed on Dreamland. Even though I messed with the whole human leadership thing, started sending kids to the nightmare realm…it’s still the humans’ fault!”
No worries. I had faith in you. 😉
Oops! Color me embarrassed. I was mentally picturing the bow from the old Dungeons and Dragons cartoon (which, as we know, was Scott’s inspiration for Nastajia’s bow) – it had no string, and used an “energy” string to fire the energy arrows – rather than actually looking at the picture.
😳
(The point can still hold, though – Nastajia’s bow is clearly magical, and therefore most likely immune to the effects of wear and weather.)
😉
“Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen. ”
“Everything that has transpired has done so according to my design.”
“It was *I* who allowed the Alliance to know the location of the shield generator! It is quite safe from your pitiful little *band*.”
Sorry, I can’t help myself. Villainous masterminds in positions of rulership and all. Though to be fair, we know Nicodemus at least started out as a much better person. And his dialogue here is reminiscent of that.
Nicodemus: So how’s my monolougue coming along?
Alex: Just great. (Stab)
Nicodemus: arghhh!
In the third panel, “have” should be changed to “has”.
I have to disagree.
Granted, the line as written needs some grammatical work: “You see … you … a HUMAN have brought all of this BLOODSHED upon Dreamland.”
If the line were “A human has brought all of this bloodshed … ” then you would be correct – third person subject, so “has” is the correct form of the verb.
But I believe the correct line, based on Scott’s original intent and corrected for grammar, would be “You see … you – a HUMAN – have brought all of this BLOODSHED upon Dreamland.” The phrase “a human” (which could be enclosed with dashes or commas) is being used to described the subject, “you”. The subject is second person, so “have” is the correct form of the verb.
(I think this correction would also clean up the timing a little, since a dash is typically read as a slightly shorter pause than an ellipsis (…), and a comma is even shorter still … )
😉
Dreamlanders have clear blood.
Not enough fairies to go around maybe?
