Inspirational speeches!
My first one.
I kept wanting to have Nastajia shout “TODAY, WE CELEBRATE OUR INDEPENDENCE DAY!”
🙂
The speech goes until Friday.
It was fun to write.
Hope you enjoy it.
Add to that…I have to now make RAIN…it’s a challenging sequence for sure.
Thanks all for reading.
Scott
And Ketchup. Don’t forget the Ketchup.
And a day may come, when the age of men comes CRASHING DOWN! BUT IT IS NOT THIS DAY!! THIS DAY WE FIGHT! by all that you hold dear! I bid that you STAND!!!! MEN!!!! OF THE WEST!!!!!!!!
Yay, speech xD
One thing that’s bothering me a bit is the light in the second panel. It seems a bit too… I don’t know, too strong on Nastajia I think. It doesn’t really seem right with the rain.
But the rain looks very wet, I sure am happy I’m not out there!
“Arise! Arise, riders of Theoden! Spears shall be shaken! Shields shall be splintered! A sword-day, a red day – ere the sun rises!”
Must be St. Crispen’s Day!
The copying and pasting of identical troops is a bit obvious because of their identical poses.
That speech gives me chills no matter how many times I hear it.
Hey, come on, give the man a break ! If you have so little time and so many panels to do, copying and pasting IT’S A MUST !!!
And anyway, it’s not so obvious to a casual reader: If you didn’t have underlined it, I would not have seen it 🙂
Epic moments for Dreamland’s people.
I thought that Alex will make a speech, but i think i ask too much for him.
Also, i am still waiting to read about the “last minute notes” from Dan to the Centaur.
Will this be the “turning point” of the war story?
I’ve found that making 3 to 4 slightly different poses for each character, and making sure to not have too many of the same pose right next to each other, is enough to make it hard to see copying/pasting.
Are the rock giants there to participate or will they mostly use their bulk to shield the others from attack? Considering their dislike of conflict and all.
*likes this* I loved that speech as much as Theoden’s *LOL*
Ha! 🙂 I was just thinking that with the rain this would be like an amalgamation of Independence Day and Two Towers…but I did like Aragorn’s speech better than Theoden’s.
I think that’s just Nastajia. She’s always been a bit glowy-er than everyone else. Maybe it’s an elf thing. 🙂
Love that speech too!
No. It is definitely obvious.
The scenes are 1gig each in size.
Very hard to maneuver in.
My first attempt at an army.
I’m sure I’ll learn more as I go.
But there are 2 elves multiplied.
And I think 6 Centaurs multiplied.
Not the best. But all I could do for now.
1 gig?? Ay.. guess every movement, or change in skeleton/rig takes many irritating minutes befor it is properly rendered. I do NOT mind the cloning. Come on! Gotta be realistic here.
Looove the rain. Seems much wetter than normal rain..brrr..
So does this mean we’ll see Felicity going “Hello Nic! I’m baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!” right before something explodes?
“Tonight we dine in the Nightmare Realm!”
Sometimes real rain will approach in a sharp squall line. It looks strange when it is real too. It is raining on Astoria and the ground behind Nastajia, but Nastajia is still dry and standing in sunlight. I have seen it in the Midwest many times but never east of the Appalachian mountains. The clouds that spawn tornadoes are more common.
There is a thunderstorm directly over Astoria and it is not moving. So a sharp line between wet and dry makes sense. It is not supposed to be a normal weather event.
heheheheheheheheheh! I’d love that! XD
This! Is! DREAMLAAAAAAND!
“…and there shall come a day unlike any other, where Dreamlands mightiest heroes and heroines, stand united against a common threat. upon that day the *insert awesome group name here* were born to fight foes no single Dreamlander can withstand”
Or it could be that any elf, when in a position of military authority and giving a speech, automatically has a magical spotlight effect.
😉
This page is BRILLIANT. Please do not change a thing! 🙂 Gorgeous!
I’m loving this arc. Can’t wait to see what Dan has planned for ol’ Nick. I also like the rain effect, but on a technical side note it looks strange in panels 1 and 3 for the wind to be blowing Nastajia’s cape in one direction and the rain in the opposite direction.
Either Independence Day or the speech in Braveheart. XD Looking forward to this.
Ah, you beat me to it, thanks to my browser going hinky on me. 🙂
“Tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they’ll never take our _FREEDOM_!”
“And Crispin Crispian shall ne’er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remember’d;
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne’er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin’s day.”
…It’s a good thing Nastajia’s doing this speech. I’d hate to think of the mess Alex would make of it. He’d probably trip up somewhere around “brothers,” look around and say…”Well, and sisters, and, uh, whatever you guys are…”
🙂
Thank you all!
So fun to hear all the great speeches!
“DEEEAAAATTTHHHH!” “DDDDDDDDDDEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAATTTTTHHHHHHH!!!!”
“DDDDDDDDDDEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAATTTTTHHHHHHH!!!!”
“DDDDDDDDDDEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAATTTTTHHHHHHH!!!!”
The St. Crispen’s day reference is from the pre-battle speech in Henry V, BTW.
I’ve seen that type of storm in Brooklyn before. One side of the street is all “dark and stormy night” while the other side is bright, sunny and warm.” Doesn’t happen very often as storms typically just keep moving through here.
But we did get what one reporter called “Thundersnow” during the blizzard, which just sounds impressive.
So I find myself wondering if Dan suspected there were spies (given what they’ve learned from the sword) and the plans he sent to Dreamland were not the ones he’d drawn up on his desk, or if the speech is a prelude to someone getting the chance to use Admiral Ackbar’s famous line…
I noticed the multiples as well, but then thought to myself, “Self… what army doesn’t have people in uniforms looking very much like one another?”
I responded to myself with, “They are all in the same pose tho!”
But then had a snappy reply of, “…when standing at attention…”
*grins* So it still works just fine for me. ^.^
(For the record tho, I don’t normally have such debates with myself, but when I do, I always seem to win… Except that one time… 😛 lol)
Nastajia just has shiny clothes.
Epic win!
yah for epic inspirational speeches. lol XD
Yes–it could be a magic effect enchanted into her Princess armor
I saw that effect in a double rainbow once, while driving east on a road out on the Great Plains–the rain was all north of the road further east, while the Sun was low and almost straight west. Result: a double rainbow–but only north of the road, vanishing at the top.
Then there was the day the wind north of the road was from the west, and south of the road was from the east–so the steam plumes from the power plants went two opposite ways…
Those giants ROCK!
But–they may be willing to take up stones for a good enough cause.
Especially if Nicodemus has attacked them.
Your post reminded me of a story where a guy’s wacky friend had to give an inspirational speech, so he began something like “Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears, and you shall hear Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere! Into the valley of death rode the six hundred: ‘Forward, the Light Brigade!’ Cannon to right of them, Cannon to left of them,
Cannon in front of them Volley’d and thunder’d…”
nice speeches guys. that’s one of my fav. speaches scott.
That does sound like something Alex would do, doesn’t it? Except I think he’d end up paraphrasing…I don’t really get the impression he’s the sort to remember whole lines from classic literature.
I kind of want to hear the “original” story now, it sounds like fun.
Maybe someone among the readers will remember it–I can’t after so many years.
“But that day..it didn’t pour normal rain.It was..chubby rain!”
too much waiting for the fight to begin …..
The SPEECH! I love inspirational post-battle speeches. Preach it, sister!
LOSING IS FUN!!!!!!!! Wait. Darn it, Dwarf Fortress. You’ve doomed me again!
Nastajia: “That dragon has sent us a message, that he can take any throne he wants! Well we shall send him a message…that he cannot take whatever he wants, and that this…THIS IS OUR DREAMLAND!”
Bring me a sandwich…. with egg…….. and HAAAAMMMM!!!
So, she wants to get rid of Nic because he rules by lies and subterfuge? Yet her plan to overthrow him was to secretly raise an army by lying about his motives. He was protecting his homeland, doing what he thought was best despite his own desires. She knows this, yet is telling these people that he took the throne out of selfish motives?
Talk about hypocrisy.
BTW, since when was being ruled by a foreign power a good thing? History has clearly proven that self-governance is always in the best interest of the people. Want a good example? Go read about what happened to native Americans, South Africans, and Australians.
This would explain why Alex and Felicity were sent ahead; they would probably give the worst motivational speeches of the lot.
And tresure!
(OOTS refrence ftw)
“We shall fight in the shade.”
