Page 1084…
Hi all!
Another page I thought came out well. I wanted to have that sense of motion with Nicodemus. But also that empty panel with Arthur.
It was a poignant moment.
Have you guys seen all of the books we have on Wowio?
I thought I’d highlight some of them.
Today…I’d like to introduce you to one of the “making of” books.
In it…there’s art and video that shows how I do the facial expressions.
Pretty cool.
Right now LOGIC WIRELESS is sponsoring 5 free downloads. So sign up and get 5 of my books here…
It’s free for you. And it helps us.
Don’t forget to vote for us too…
And…tomorrow…we go to CAMELOT!
Can’t wait.
Hope you’re enjoying things.
And thank you for the feedback on the whole “Red Man” dialog.
MUCH appreciated.
Scott
Hmm one wonders about nico
Hey, I just finished reading the comic (incredable by the way) but is there anyway for new readers to see the old vote incentives?
Woah ho! Looks like Ole Nick is bordering on disrespect and insubordination… Will King Arthur react to that?
I think Nick is ruler of the Nightmare Realm, so Arthur views him as an equal. And he’s apparently not aware that it’s a freaking dragon who rules over the Nightmare Realm. What does he need, a neon sign that says “Slay Me”?
and being ruler of the nightmare realm would be a king under Arthur…
Ah, good ol Merlin. I bet he is the one responsible for Alex. How, is anyones guess.
esp. since nightmare are a form of dream…
hmm i wonder if i think i think merlin is responsible for the sword. being the way it is now
Awesome page as usual. I really love the way Nic’s bubble covers part of Arthur’s bubble when he’s interrupting him. It really gives the page some dramatic “oomph”!
agree with both you and month, if merlin is mentioned he is always important
Well, some legends DO say Merlin is immortal, so that could be possibility.
So, with the new idea that this is the mythical Arthur from around 1400 changes things a bit. That was NOT clear at all by the way. Yes, it was 600 Dreamland years ago, but one of the most important parts of Dreamland is that time there does not match time in the Wakeland. Hmm…does that name work? Based on what we know of time between the two, 600 Dreamland years could very easily be 1400 Wakeland years. Based on what is in the story now, it is not clear that Niccy took over 600 years ago in BOTH worlds.
Anyway, back to fitting the 1400 Camelot into real history. It’s a trick. Based on our knowledge of settled England there is no way at all Camelot could be in the south or south west of the British isles. It just doesn’t work. Too much population in that time period, too much knowledge and written history. We’re talking the Gutenberg Press was created in 1439 so this Camelot is actually placed right when Western Society was RECOVERING from the Dark Ages. Interesting. You’re going to have to explain how society in our world was HURT by Niccy taking over.
Ah, but back to location. The settled parts of England won’t work. Scotland doesn’t work because of the stories. It was the Pict that he FOUGHT after all. Hmmm…DID the 1400 Arthur fight them? I’m sorry to say that I really don’t know much about the 1400-era legends of Arthur. I read them once, dismissed them as utter bunk, and have never looked back at them again. 🙁 Either way, I don’t think Scotland works for King Arthur. Ireland doesn’t as well for VERY obvious reasons. 😉 The Isle of Man doesn’t work either because they’ve had a continuous government for just over 1,000 years so slipping Camelot in there in the 1400 time frame doesn’t work. Now Wales or western England might just work. Wales had been invaded around 1270, though in the early 1400s there was a resurgence of Wales. It ended though. That era in Wales and on the western coast of England could fit well, or as well as any place does around 1400, for a mythical Camelot to have been. Sparsely populated with lots of mountains and valleys and forests that modern historians could “lose” a city in. 🙂
HA! Yes, “you are getting very AWAKE, when you do wake up you will remember nothing of this conversation!” I bet Merlin could have figured it out though. ^^
LOL. No offense ment if you any of you really like Twilight, but Nic wearing a sign that says “slay me” would be just as funny as Edward walking around Buffy’s house with a sign saying, “Stake me! Im a vampire”
Also some legends say that Merlin ages backwards. He was born at the end fo time and died at the begginning of time. Oh! If that were so maybe Alex’s principal/headmaster could be Merlin!!!! We’ve never met the head of the school yet, would be sooo cool, and funny! ^^
YAY!!!! CAMELOT!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, and King Arthur looks really depressed in that last panel. Poor poor Arthur, your dreams just got crushed!
Yeah, and its not like much archaeology has been done actually searching for his castle or anything. And when his empire fell, because it eventually did (cry), the castle could have been reused by someone else. What with all the conquering going on at that time, some abandoned and well fortified castle would have been easily taken over and put to use by some other lord.
Ah, but I have seen a shirt that states “…and then Buffy staked Edward. The end.” 😉
And in the last panel, Arthur is left wondering, [When did he get so much sand in his cloaca?]
sooo… I’ve always had a problem with statements like “don’t do this and that” without a reason given. I mean, people (even adults) are likely to do it anyway if they don’t see why it would be a good idea to really not do it.
but nic, being the maipulator he is, is probably aiming for just that. we’ll see. 🙂
Not really. I think it’s been made pretty clear that Dreamland and the Nightmare Realm are separate political entities.
Twilight is just one of many stories that would be improved by the introduction of Buffy as a character.
I would LOVE to download and read the books – but it seems they’re not downloadable for European people. At least not for the Dutch 🙂
The story so far is great Scott, I love it. 🙂
“On second thought, let us not go to Camelot. ‘Tis a silly place.”
Wow, I’m surprised I was the first to say it XD
I am so lucky I was slow in taking a drink of water when I read this. Woulda spewed all over my keyboard.
I definitely get the sense that Nic is losing patience with Arthur and may decide to “do” something about it. In Nic’s defense, Arthur is something of a dreamer, and it isn’t a very practical plan to bring Arthur’s enemies to Dreamland. If they did get there, most likely they would want to conquer that as well.
Unspoken is exactly why Nic is so against more adult humans coming to Dreamland. Upsetting the natural order? Undermining Nic’s power? Perhaps we’ll learn more.
HA! I was right. Nicky was always nasty; he just didn’t act overtly until Arthur started to do things he felt went Beyond the Pale.
Speaking of adult humans in Dreamland, what about the adult pirates in the Nightmare realm? Are they humans? If so, how did they get there? And how do they stay there?
It would seem, to me, that after seeing so many human kings fall prey to the power of the title, he has begun loathing humans. So to him, any plan that brings in more humans, especially ones that are full-grown and therefore no longer the innocence of youth, is a bad plan. His ultimate aim is to rid Dreamland of those pesky humans…
Hi Ness…
They are available to EVERYONE
If you have any problems…let me know. I’ll contact Wowio and get it fixed.
🙂
I wonder if Arthur is able to bring people over and that’s what drives Nick over the edge. I’m not really a fan of the King Arthur legends but I have no doubt that Merlin has the power to somehow manage getting humans over.
Welcome, fellow Dreamer!
You might find some of the old vote incentives in the Dreamland Wiki. I haven’t confirmed this, though.
And thanks for VOTING!
lol, that’s where i got it from^^
Oh, by the way. Is this the Arthur legend where Lancelot is French?
I’m glad Merlin looks to become a part of this backstory. No good Arthurian Legend is complete without the Deus ex Machina, the Wizard who did it (you know, when you can’t explain something, so you just say “a Wizard did it”?). Merlin introduces all sorts of interesting possibilities …
Don’t forget to keep VOTING, everyone! It’s a new month, and we need to establish Dreamland in the rankings early!
Most of the pirate’s crew were monsters of one type or another. The pirate was a bit too massive to be an adult human. I suspect he was just a stereotypical pirate captain, straight out of kids’ nightmares.
Based on my own limited-scale research, the ‘Romance Arthur’ is apparently more of a product of the 1200s, as opposed to the 1400s, in any case…
Listen to Nic, Arthur. Friends don’t let friends go all occultist magic.
I keep thinking of Tomb Raider: Legend… Though that’s probably because the Arthur legends figure prominently in the story- Excalibur being actually only one of a number of similar ancient and powerful artifacts used as ‘keys’ in a pre-historic teleportation network, and Arthur being found to be a real ruler who was buried in a rather extensive underground tomb in Cornwall.
At the end of Underworld, I’m pretty sure Lara Croft was then in the possession of two ‘Excaliburs’… having claimed another in perhaps the last use of the teleportation network, and the one from her earlier adventures having probably been placed in her vault.
… and I’ve meandered off… But now I want to play Legend again, and hear Alistair exclaim that, “They were two bloody different swords!” among other amusing bits of dialog.
That actually calls to mind… did Arthur get Excalibur from the lady in the lake in this story, or is Excalibur and the Sword in the Stone one and the same in this, despite the legends having them as two separate blades?
Doth mine eyes deceive me, or did Nic just give the king of dreamland an order. And with just a hint of desperation in the dialogue… Think about it, Arthur…
ok, definitely not satisfied with Nic’s rebuttal (if there was actually any) :p
Camelot!! CAMELOT! camelot!
…it’s only a model…
Da da da da da DUH! We’re the knights of the round table, we dance whenever we’re able!
I’m trying to establish a timeline… but I can’t tell if Nic already has the scar here that Alex gave him at the beginning on the comic. So this is all before Alex showed up in dreamland?
I always kind of assumed the captain was an oversized rogue dwarf.
😉
I tried downloading your books first time you mentioned it and then again on the free day. I couldn’t either time.. there just was not an option available. I am in Germany presently so it could be an issue for all European nations? I really would’ve liked to give you a little support. There isn’t much I can give, but I do try. I really love your comic and how reliable you are with updates and when you can’t be there is always a heads up. It’s a lot more than most comic artists do and I really do appreciate it and would like to show it once in a while 🙂
Don’t forget that in Camelot, Arthur also had to deal with other sub-kings, some of whom were pretty evil or venial themselves. Nicodemus is nothing new for him in that regard.
From the name, and his home castle of Joyous Garde (IIRC), Lancelot was French, or at least Breton.
Try one more time.
I just turned on INTERNATIONAL on the site (they just showed me how)
🙂
No scar. This is 600 years before Alex.
nicodemus: ” in other words….. STFU!” arthur: …….D:
lol XD
yeah nic’s evil side is starting to show now.
nope, not there
Is there a limit to how many you can download for free?
In connection with Apstorm’s comment:
one legend, the Gargoyles version, both the Lady of the Lake sword and the sword in the stone sword were the same one. In the movie Merlin, the sword in the stone was placed there by Merlin and was actually Arthur’s inheritance from his father Uther, and when that sword broke, Arthur recieved a new one from the Lady of the Lake. But as said before, there is practically an infinite number of arthurian legends.
Hm, I wonder, the Lady of the Lake could be from Dreamland. So Arthur could have two different Excaliburs. The one given to him by the Lady of the Lake in Dreamland. And the one that belonged Uther, which Merlin put into stone and anvil where only the true heir of England could draw it from the stone!
Careful Arther, do not further anger the dragon, for you are crunchy and taste great with catsup!
How could they be human if they bleed green?
Why does Merlin have to be “occult”? Couldn’t he be One Who Has Power By Nature?
Huh. Seems like a good place for them, though.
Scott, would you have any objection to old vote incentives being added to the Dreamland Wiki?
I’ll consider it. It’s definitely a possibility.
Most of the vote incentives are printed in the books too.
OMG, that would be soooo funny to have Buffy in the twilight world, or Blade. I get all these happy shivers about thinking what Blade would do to Edward and his mates. I may be getting a bit on in years but in my reality vampires do NOT sparkle….EVER
He would indeed make sense as a Lore-master… 😉
re-reads above statement…oh
I have a vampire character who wears glitter so he can sparkle during campy broadway songs that he sings… but he still can’t go out in the sun.
To anyone else who reads this and has the same question, many of the incentives have made it to the Dreamland Chronicles facebook page or Scott’s DeviantArt account.
