Page 1077…
Happy Monday all!
I’m on my way back from New York.
I was visiting family. I was asked to be the godfather for my cousin’s son, Sammy.
Since this was written last Wednesday…I can’t speak for any current events.
But I can say this…
DON’T miss tomorrow.
It’s really cool.
π
Ok, now a really good and stupid question at the same time.
Sounds like the start of a flashback to me.
Whoa! A spell placed on Daniel? I don’t think we knew about this before did we? I mean, there were lots of clues hinting at something like that, but so far nothing in our view of Alexander’s experiences right?
Especially since Nicodemus expressed surprise that Alex had a brother.
I’m pretty sure they said something about it fairly recently.
It’s not a spell, but the law of the land, as stated before, that the firstborn of the next generation to be king cannot enter Dreamland while the current king is alive. So technically, Nicodemus did not put any spell on Dan, but Dreamland is functioning as it should, in this instance, since ol’ Nick has kept Arthur under lock and key all this time, but alive, keeping any next generation’s firstborn to come, up to and including Dan’s generation.
I would not be surprised to find out that Nic put Arthur up to writing that law, figuring that once Arthur is stashed away, no other king could surface up, except he didn’t account for there to be twins in one generation of king to come. The firstborn is prevented, by law of the land, from entering, but not the second one, even if only second by five minutes…
WHOO FLASH BACK TIME!…yeah that probably shouldnt have been written in caps. but oh well. :3 exciting
Heh…sounds like fun. I wonder what we’ll see next? *leans forward eagerly*
Interesting plot turn, but hah I thought he was going to lean forward and say “so could you like, work on that for me?”
(Alex needs it)
Sword: “Answer unclear. Try again later.”
I always think of wisdom and knowledge as two different things. Knowledge being access to a database of facts and information; while wisdom is more of the the ability to process and make decisions based on the facts and information available. The sword is offering Alex knowledge, not wisdom, IMHO.
All that aside, I can’t wait for tomorrow’s page!
Interesting question all right. Is Alex jumping to conclusions, or making an inspired guess? Either way, the sword is going to have its work cut out for it if it is going to imbue Alex with wisdom.
I can see how the sword could be a problem. It might be able to show the kings of Dreamland where their predecessors went wrong – but it’s not going to help them with anything new. If they grew to rely on it too much, that might be why Nicodemus was able to do whatever he did.
Welcome back from NY Scott! If the post office isn’t kidding me, you should have the packet I sent you by now.
I’m going to start a separate string of comments here. Here’s the question for everybody who wants to take it on: What would be the FIRST question YOU would ask the sword?
I’d have a lot, but I think mine would be “What can you tell me about the guardians?”
It gets funny when she mentions wisdom infront of “Alex” π
I think lake_wrangler is quite right.
could any second-born enter though? or did it *have* to be a twin?
*shakes the sword again*
alex isn’t always on the same page as others… he seems to have his own creative way of thinking…
Wait, Alex thinks Nicodemus cast a spell on his brother? When did that happen? I’ve been really pumped for some good plot exposition, but this chapter has been very difficult to follow.
Cast your memory back a ways to the scene where Alex, Paddington and Kiwi were playing in the stream and Nastajia was -trying- to study… it mentions a spell being cast, and Nastajia’s parents were at the forefront of the search for an answer as to why Dan couldn’t dream. (At least that’s one way to look at the wording there.)
While it doesn’t mention ol’ dragon-butt casting a spell directly anywhere that I can recall, I can also follow Alex’s logical leap considering what he knows about Nick. Scott, care to chime in on the confusion?
Alex thinks a powerful spell was cast on Dan.

Alex knows that Nicodemus has very strong magic.

Nicodemus did not necessarily cast the spell on Dan but he may have created and cast it on Arthur. He definitely knows how it works and most likely knew that it got cast on an heir about 20 years ago. Nicodemus was surprised that Alex had a brother, I think because he was monitoring the descendants of Arthur and saw one birth that would be blocked by the spell but didn’t notice that it was a twin. Without a second birth Nicodemus didn’t worry about a second born coming to claim the sword.
I’d ask, if vegetables are what our bodies need, why don’t they taste like chocolate? And vice versa?
Ferengi Rule of Acquisition #44: Never confuse Wisdom with Luck.
(Don’t forget to VOTE!)
Sword: “I’m sorry, Alex. I can’t do that.”
Alex: “What’s the problem?”
Sword: “I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.”
Alex: “What are you talking about, Sword?”
Sword: “Look Alex, I can see you’re really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill, and think things over.”
Ain’t dat da truth!
Where’s the bathroom in this dump?
or
How do I kill Nickie?
Remember this is Alex we’re talking about. He can use whatever he can get. π
What will the winning Powerball numbers be for next week’s drawing?
or
Can you please explain to me exactly how girls think?
Thanks for the reminder! Already diddit!
Imbuing Wisdom to Alex is like dropping a diamond down a deep dark well…
In any event, if a flashback is coming, I’m looking forward to it! π
Sounds familiar. Does anyone know the pages numbers where
1) Alex recalls the first part of the conversation (where Paddy gets Nastajia’s mom and dad wet with his cannonball) and
2) Where Kiwi tells Alex what happened right after Alex woke up (and Nic showed up to ask about the tablets).
Thanks,
That’s interesting. On today’s page, the outside edge of the whites of the sword’s eye look like they have veins or some other type of reddish darkening to them, but yesterday’s page showed a pure, unbroken white for the same thing. It does look like the eye is swivelling to see Alex on this page, but I would have expected at least some red area in yesterday’s page.
This is awesome. We get questions answered. That is a good point, if it had to be twins or just a second child. I still wonder if it was at random that Alex’s first visit to Dreamland took him near Ashendel and Nastajia.
Nevermind, answered my own question.
Both conversations are in Chapter 8. The page of most interest is page 464. In it Queen Titania and King Oberon state that Dan is under a spell that prevents him from entering Dreamland, but the source and cure are unknown.

Why am I asking advice from a item of stabbity death?
Found it in Chapter 8 on page 464. In it Queen Titania and King Oberon state that Dan is under a spell that prevents him from entering Dreamland, but the source and cure are unknown. So Alex already knows for a fact Dan in under a spell not to dream and makes the logical guess on this page that Nic is the cause.

Wisdom? Hrm.
Is this the part where the sword gives Alex a diploma, and Alex suddenly bursts out with, “The sum of the square roots of any two sides of an isosceles triangle is equal to the square root of the remaining side. Oh joy, rapture! I’ve got a brain!”?
Is it just me or does that sword’s eye look rather red. Shouldn’t have been woken up like this, I guess.
That sword better have a huge quantity of wisdom to spare. Alex needs as much as there is π
Any second born could enter, but I think the fact that they are twins is what allows Alex to be the next king.
How can I get into dreamland from this side of the monitor even though I’m to old?
Wisdom, Power, Courage (anyone who gets this get a free internet)! Please tomorrow, come so the truth will be reveled!!!
I agree with you on that, but it seemed to me that the sword was able to offer advice, therefor wisdom, to Alex. The sword seems to have a mind of it’s own anyway π
How did the kingship of Dreamland start?
Or maybe: When was the sword forged?
Or even: Did Dreamland exist before the first dream of a person on Earth?
Well, the last one might be a stretch since the sword’s memory would only go back so far as when it was originally forged. But such a topic must have been discussed in the sword’s presence sometime in it’s history.
Ok, I know it’s supposed to be just one question, but I came up with another one. Well, I’m gonna sneak two into one: Tell me how Nicodemus came to be the advisor of the king. (The hidden question is which came first, the sword or Nicodemus.)
eeeeeee! The Triforce!
ROFL!
lol, Seriously lmao
it just dawned on me that what the sword could say, but not in that short way of saying to some cryptic was of saying it. hehe
Alex: what did the sword say again..
Natasha : sly smirk at alex..
Orion: it said βAnswer unclear. Try again later.β
I love this comic. So far so good. The hooks are really…hooky!!!!
Well, I suppose it is there. But that’s such a small, glossed-over reference from seven chapters ago that it’s no surprise anyone would’ve forgotten. In fact, it’s far more surprising that Alex remembers. I mean, just last week, he couldn’t discern the identity of rock giants on sight and asked if they were going to eat him.
lol!! π
yes, wisdom alex, something that you could use alot of. lol XD
I agree that this was really confusing for me. It was unclear for a minute if he was referencing the spell that kept Dan out of Dreamland (which took me a long time to pull out of my memory), or a new spell that we hadn’t heard. I kept backtracking throughout the week’s posts to see if I had missed something really important somehow.
Sure is smart of Alex to make the connection
