Page 1076…
What a week.
We’ve started the donations (see the Nastajia painting on the right)…
We now have PRINTS (see the navigation panel below the comic)…
And we are hearing from that creepy sword again.
Big things next week. REALLY big things next week (in the comic).
Stay tuned. And have a wonderful weekend.
Scott
Inpuuuuttttt!
*Sorry, had to do it*
Ooh, a database of the other human kings that came to dreamland before……
I wonder why didn’t Orion told him sooner?
anyway, it’s great that the donations are helping Scott.
I wanna donate but don’t have the money to do so…. π
So basically, Mr. Sword is saying “those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it,” right?
I had a question then I think I answered it.
If the sword has the knowledge of all the past human kings, wouldn’t it also know the contents of all of the tablets? The answer being: not directly. Yes the sword knows the entire history of Dreamland, but it was neutralized 600 years ago, and the tablets were made some time after Nic had usurped the throne. The tablets may hold vital information that Alexander will need that the sword would not be privy to, as it was in the hall of kings at the time.
In more practical terms, it means that the quest to find the remaining tablets can continue.
Creepy Talking Sword For The Win! π (btw Scott you amaze me with your work :3 just thought id tell you this today. i wanna draw soo badly)
Pretty much. Right now we are repeating that which lead up to WWII. -_-”
Swordy the Talking Sword! Yay!
Wow, I imagined that you sounded like the Yu Yu Hakasho narrator when you said that! Cool!^^
And you go you smart sword you! Tell him, with out learning the mistakes of the past, one can never succeed! ^^
Hmmm i’m just wondering if the king and queen of the rock giants is made up of huge diamond…or other rock gems….
I can smell a history-lesson coming up.
Actually, I’d guess it’s probably called Excalibur.
Woohoo! Although in literature talking swords aren’t usually a good thing, as they often wind up killing their masters or prophesying their deaths, this one is useful! The Dreamland RulershipWiki!
The sword “speaks” in the mind of others (sort of telepathy speaking) or the “voice” is heard like “surround sound”?
It’s not clear on the the bubbles.
Great. Alex has logged into swordblog.com.
This is the point where Alex usually loses interest, starts whining about school work/home work even in his sleep and “nerd stuff” and wanders off.
I think I’m officially changing it to swordy.
π
Uh oh… the slow pull-out… does that mean that Nick is nearby?
DOH!
The hits just keep coming.
I’m sorry guys. For some reason…Alexander’s dialog box is missing.
ARGH!
I’m away from my workstation and can’t fix it.
He says “Um…can you tell me what happened?” or something along those lines.
Man. I leave for 2 days and everything goes to crap.
So sorry all.
Just don’t put the sword by a television, or it’ll never stop quoting three stooges.
Hey Scott,
does the eye on the sword have a lens? It looks really strange and hollow for some reason. Especially with the high reflection renders you are using. I like the attention to detail like moving everyone a little and rotating the frame to make sure each frame is different besides the dialog.
Don’t worry, that just means that this page will be a collector’s edition for after it’s fixed.
“EXTREMELY RARE, PAGE WITH MISSING DIALOG. ONLY 619 KNOWN COPIES KNOWN TO EXIST.”
Something like that.
Nancy agrees, the eye looks “Creepy.”
I think it’s that the iris does not appear flat. Or is it meant to look that way? Back into the archives I go, looking for the sword with the eye open. Does anyone know it that happened anywhere else than when we met Orion?
Hey, love the comic. Been following it for awhile.
Noticed something on this page though:
The last text bubble should really end, “avoid making the same mistakes made by your ancestors.”
The sword is not creepy, it is very very cool! (Okay, the hollow-looking eye thing may be a little creepy, but otherwise…. not so creepy! =P )
that may be true to a degree… but looking at the tablets we’ve read so far, they look more like history.
Elven tablet stated that dreamland should be ruled by kings and talked about the sword.
the Mer-people’s restated that and listing former kings and spoke about the betrayal of of the king and the seven tablets
the Dwarves restated detailed the fall of the king and flat-out named Nicodemus as an usurper
I’m sure there is some other wisdoms that could have been on the other tablets, but the main theme has been Nicodemus is NOT the true king… I think everyone knows that by now π
LOL , that would be cool
Love the comic but don’t comment often.. . just wanted to say that I was a bit put off by the composition of the second panel. I couldn’t figure out where the sword was in relation to everyone else. It kinda fades into everything…. I dunno.. now that I look at it it’s fine but I think that’s because I know where it is. Maybe it is because you chose to go from a very close-up shot of the sword to a faaaaaar long shot of it and it kinda threw me off.
Anyway keep up the awesome! π
-K
One of the problems with learning from the mistakes of the past is that it’s almost impossible to learn unless you yourself has gotten burnt. Our mother’s can tell us that it’ll hurt to touch a hot ovenplate, but we won’t understand it until we try.
So knowing about the mistakes of his predeccesors might not be enough, unless he experiences their memories as his own.
….or rather, “Those who fail to learn from history are bound to become doomed“….
I expect the tablets hold both the history of Dreamland and clues on how to defeat Nicodemus. As to why they found the history ones first, well, that’s for the convenience of the story. It would have been bad storytelling to do otherwise.
The sword is kinda hard to see from the far away aspect. Maybe a feint aura of some kind, it is a magical, talking, intelligent, good seeming sword afterall.
Very cool and unique, dont think ive ever read anything with a magical weapon that records everything so the future rulers can learn and benefit from it. Can’t wait to see the next surprise you’re going to reveal to us. π
LOL! Thanks for pointing that out, Scott! I went clicking back to see if I had missed a page or something! Whew!
Perhaps a slight reflection photoshopped on the cornea would help…
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! More History!
Oh, wait… It’s Friday and I have to wait till Monday…
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! π₯
That would be accurate, but so is “predecessors”.
π
THAT’s what’s been missing for the last few pages – snarky Silverwolf comments! π
I’m glad you caught back up to us and remedied that …
Happy weekend everyone, and don’t forget to VOTE!
The only problem, is that Alex doesn’t exactly learn from his OWN mistakes. So, how is he supposed to learn from anyone else’s?
Awesome, we get a summart of what was on the centuar and fairy tablets then, yay!
That comes in real handy, I wish I had a sword like that π I can`t wait for next week for what the sword will have to say, I`m feeling big revelations comic up!
It`s great how the rock giants can be used as a background. In panel one it looks like Alex is standing in front of some nice rock, but it`s one of the giants.
lol!!!! π
I dunno…I see what you’re saying, but it just adds top the creepiness of the eye, which I like. The sword’s eye should be different than other living things, I would think.
Predecessors would be more accurate, wouldn’t it? These kings don’t have to be blood relations, if I’ve read the comic right.
The sword isn’t creepy! It’s epic awesome!
Just don’t get it singing “Witchcraft.”
I think the structure of the sword’s eye is significantly different than that of a human’s eye. From this angle, it looks like the “white” of the eye is basically a round ball, with the iris and pupil in a cylindrical depression. The iris may even slope up the sides of the depression.
Now, now.
I thought we all agreed to save the Alex-bashing until chapter 16. π
lol, oddly, i didn’t notice. i thought the sword was simply agreeing with Orion– “yessiree, that’s what i do”
wow Server was down last night
Grammatical error: since you’re referring to more than one person, the apostrophe should follow the S in predecessors.
Sword: “Mistake one: Not killing Nicodemus when he was a 2 foot long wyrmling.”
*Long silence.*
Alex: “Is there anything else?”
Sword: “No, that’s it, kind of a doozy though.”
That would be faint. A feint is a false attack to lure opponent into error and a more serious real attack.
One thing: I’d think that a sword would have a sharper wit and even be a bit snarky. Even a stick of metal can have a personality.
the sword as spoken!!
lol i don’t know, i’m dead today. XD
Couple of questions on the prints.
Would you put the measurements of the prints on the “Buy Print” page? We know from your page 1074 comments that they are all 13 x 19, but that info will be uhnknown for the new readers. Maybe just changing ‘Print’ to ’13” x 19″ Print’ and ‘Original’ to ’13” x 19″ Original’
Also, you stated the difference between the ‘1 of 1 original’ and the ‘regular’ prints is the lack of dialog. What about the pages that have no dialog? For example page 1019.
http://thedreamlandchronicles.com/the-dreamland-chronicles/page-1019/
Is there any difference?
Haha! That’s what I thought too! D’oh!
Swordy goes on about the first king…..
Alex nods off….
‘Staj nudges him and glares…..
Alex gives a sheepish grin….
wait… can he sleep in dreamland when he’s technically already sleeping? Crud….
Alex: Oh Shiny!
Swordy: I’m shiny too…..
haha! PLEASE have Alex say Oh shiny!
Good points.
Thanks.
And no. No difference I guess for the pages with no dialog.
“Aw, but I HATE history!”
Yes, I myself wondered about the possible redundancy between the sword and the tablets.
I doubt seriously Alex can sleep in dreamland… but if he did would he dream about a different place??? hmmm a dream loop.. Yes I can see Alex drifting off into daydreams but somehow I think he is going to pay attention from now on… as the fate of the world is in his hands… and Nic will be more than happy to make sure there are no further Human Kings of Dreamland.
Depends on whether it’s meant to be a mascot or not. My bet: No. It’s been pretty quiet so far, after all.
Already been done, don’t you know about mr Shine, him diamond.
Would Alex say “Oh, shiny!”? I’d think that’s more in Felicity’s line.
That is, almost word for word, the exact reply that I was considering posting here …
π
Just tell us on monday that it’s some cool telepathy thing between the sword and alex, we won’t even notice.
If this had a like button, like Facebook, I would like this comment!
hey, what are the chances we get some new songs in the joukebox? would love to hear something new, liked the choices you made so far π

I’d say Dr. Swordopolis, but thats already used by 8-bit theater π
Yes! I so called it!
I could say, “Great minds think alike.” But that would be scary–that someone else might think like I do. It’s bad enough I think like I do.
Alex can tell his friends “I told you so”. There was not need to study the sword can recall for him.
This sword may really be mightier than the pen.
Wait, I just remembered. Of course it’s Excalibur; the sword was in a stone at the beginning of this series.
So THAT’S why the dragon was so insistant on getting the sword…it has all the knowledge…
Dr. Swordopolis Junior?
So when is the sword going to answer the damned question?
