Page 1728…
In my MIND, I saw a horde of skeletons charging and the one in the center screen’s head explodes. We focus to see it’s Nastajia.
ALSO…
I had spent quite a bit of time making a MOUNTAIN ‘O BONES that you can BARELY see.
Argh!
Oh well. Hopefully the next few pages will get better.
π
Donβt forget! THIS SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, I will be a guest at
I hope to see some of you there!
Please come visit!

Perhaps killing goes better when you kill people who are not already dead?
I just finished a binge-reading session of your comic. I must say, it’s pretty impressive that you’ve stuck with it for this long. You can see how the dialogue, art, and general storytelling improve over the years. Though I’ve got the artistic ability of a lobotomized hamster, I know talent when I see it. Well done.
I do have to ask, though: Do you have an actual end planned? It seems like everything is tying neatly together, but too many webcomics just keep on going until the artist is sick unto death of their work and just stop updating. I’ve enjoyed this comic far too much to wish for that to happen.
“Staying” there is not the best field tactics ever… She should be running as fast as she can, killing only obstructing enemies…
Welcome newbie (not noob, that would be mean).
Scott has made it clear there is an end to the story and that the amount of chapters is set to 20. The general idea of the story per chapter had been set a couple years back, the details per chapter have been filled in inbetween chapters.
Scott,
Looking at the lighting on the models, i think there is a light to the right of the 1st scene. Maybe move that a bit more behind the camera and increase the luminosity or the drop the color a bit (more towards white) so that the light actually hits the inside of the helmet instead of the side.
to the LEFT in the 1st scene. I’m such an idiot. To the LEFT of the camera.
I hope somebody gets there soon to give her a hand, otherwise she will drop dead of exhaustion before help arrives.
I agree with the running idea, but if you are lost in a strange land, maybe running would be just as futile. If she was hoping Alex would get free and join her she wouldn’t want to get farther away from him in the confusion.
How Nastajia react to the news that Alex is NEVER coming back to Dreamland?
(Unless Alex finds a way back we’re not aware of?)
Welcome! And thank you!
There are 2 more chapters to go. Then I’m done.
This is the second half of Book Seven. I will end with Book Eight.
Hope you enjoy the rest of the story!
Better build a bigger mountain!
Skeletons rarely show an instinct for self-preservation.
Well remember, Captain, the portal to Dreamland is still somewhere on Earth…(hope springs eternal!)
Erm…why Nastajia is STANDING shooting the incoming skeletons?
I was waiting to see her running and shooting skeletons that appear infront of her or turning (while running) to shoot the skeletons that chase her.
I’m certain I will. ^^ I actually just read the blurb on the homepage about the number of chapters, and went, “Oh, I hope no one saw my post…” Thanks for the awesome story!
For one thing, running saps your strength, especially when there’s no foreseeable end to it. She’s actually conserving her strength by making a stand. For another, where would she go? She’s in unknown and hostile territory. Running blindly might well lead her into a worse situation, one where she has no hope of defending herself. There’s tactics involved in surviving such hostile conditions, and though it may not look it Nastajia is being smart by picking a defensible position where she can see the enemy coming from all directions, while still keeping the option to run open should her situation worsen.
Either way, that’s gotta be a lot of XP right there…
Wasn’t it destroyed?
No dunkhead!!! How else could the king and queen gone through the portal? They would be stuck limbo. Also, remember that nightmare creatures are waiting to go invade Earth.
It breaks with the format of the series, but three diagonal panels across a two-page spread would get the details in. First panel is about 2/5 upper left, last panel is 2/5 lower right, and the epic mountain of bodies shot dominates the center 6/5.
Ahhhh… Going for the old Frazzatta fighting on a mound of bodies motif, a’la “The Destroyer.β
If you can pull it off it could be awesome!
Also, bout time one of the girls gets to rack up an awesome body pile!
And some are already here!
Oh, dear…even our warrior princess can’t hold out forever.
We need a flyer to come and rescue her off that piletop… hmmm… Nic? Maybe not, but that would increase his goodwill value. Seraphopolisers? Too unimportant characters… but not outta the question. Alex? Nah. Dan? Surely not, he don’t know how to fly. Kiwi? Hm, well… she’s busy with the dwarves, if I don’t misrecall.
So will it be Nicodemus then? Or… the CHIMERA!!!
Not quite sure if I understand the 1st panel.. what’s the big rock looking thing?
Over the years, Scott has talked about some of the things he’s already done. He entered webcomics having already been an entertainment professional. It’s been awhile, so I don’t know all that he’s done, but this isn’t his first rodeo.
The point being, he’s already developed himself as a professional, and his professionalism shows through in this work, as well.
The rest has already been said.
There are jokes within jokes! It’s like Inception in here!
I get the feeling she’s surrounded. It’s not that she’s retreating, she’s just attacking in another direction.
I suppose she’s been shooting skeletons, and building their bodies from afar, and she’s running between mounds. It doesn’t make sense to use a ranged weapon and build a mound of bodies where you’re standing, after all. π
Scott mentioned it in the post he made about today’s page. It’s the back of a skeleton’s helmeted head. The next panel is Nastajia from the perspective of where the skeleton’s head used to be.
Scott wasn’t happy with how it turned out, but it’s the way the cards fell.
I would suggest, to make it look like the head was exploding, to have the point of the arrow sticking out the back of the head in the first panel.
Then have a little bit more skull debris in a ring around where it used to be. π
Infinitely respawning enemies don’t tend to give any significant amount of XP. It is an obvious counter-measure to prevent easy power-levelling.
The only exception are those that respawn endlessly due to a glitch or oversight (e.g. if you’re meant to be running away from them, but stay to fight instead).
