Well…good news.
I’m finally off of the Blood Pressure Medicine!
Yay.
One down…one to go.
Still working on the spine injury…but I think it’s coming along nicely.
Chapter 14 script is coming along really nicely. It’s REALLY big. So I’m a bit worried that Book 4 may need to be turned into two books. Which would throw my whole 6 book series out the door.
With Chapter 13 over 120 pages….and this chapter looking to be just as big…I have a real dilemma on my hands.
Not a bad one. But a dilemma nontheless.
But lots of fun character interactions and discoveries in the upcoming chapter. I hope you’ll like it.
In other news…
Today starts the first day of the NHL playoffs. What fun.

IDW Publishing is screwing up with the Dreamland Chronicles Issues they are bringing out. The most recent one I got, after Alex was rescued from the pirates and he sees the Ashendel again. You made that page a bouble spread, they chopped it in half and now you have to turn the page to see Ashendel. It totally takes the effect away you created when it is a bouble spread. I do not know why they did it, but they did.
But your SA fan is still here and I can’t wait to read more about Dreamland or to hear more news about the possible movie coming out.

Great news on the BP. Hope to see closure with the Nicole/Felicity issue, it would be nice to see them in the “present” or at least see that Felicity is made aware that Nicole remembered her, finally!

I can’t believe it, but I find myself actually interested in the notes your providing. To be honest, my first thought was “why would I be interested in artist notes? Where is the excitement and adventure. I had no idea I would be so invested. Thank you!
I have to ask, do these actually look as clean and well done as presented here? or do you have to “pretty” them up?

Seven books? I was definitely thinking of Narnia. It worked for C.S. Lewis before it worked for Rowling.
I love the artists notes, but I am just wondering when the chapter 14 will start again, don’t get me wrong I love the artists notes I am just a curious person 🙂

I’m working on chapter 14 now. The script.
My back is healing nicely. And i”m off the blood pressure meds the doctors gave me too.
So I hope to have new pages for everyone in a few weeks.
I’ll keep everyone up to date as I update the making ofs Monday-Wednesday-Friday.

i like the seven book idea. It does mean there are more pages. doesnt matter about the chapter if there is more to the story right?
Aw, just don’t “Scrunch” *or* draw out the plot or anything- let it flow on its own natural rate, whatever that may be, however many books it takes to tell it fully or best.
Robert Jordan had problems with his fantasy Wheel of Time series- certain books dragged, others were way too fast and lost detail and fleshing-out of the story. Something about how publishers wanted to kill the series if it didn’t end, then not. Readers hated it.

Scott, Scott, Scott, you’re a wonderful lad. Worrying about whether a chapter has too many pages, or too much dialogue. You are in the driver’s seat, just do whatever you need to tell the story as you want it to be told. Dialogue is JUST as necessary in graphic novels, or you have too much to explain in pictures. 6 books vs 7 books, what’s the issue already? I have the Rowling collection, 8 books in all with Beedle, and also the Wheel of Time, hoping that he will finish that story in a somewhat timely manner, after 13 or so books so far. How ever you put this story together in it’s final form, I’ll be happy to purchase it. I doubt that I’m alone expressing this sentiment, as well.
My brother and nephews are on the edge of their seats waiting for the NHL playoffs to start, with you.
It’s been my experience that when having unbalanced chapters, there is usually a different but also climactic point at which I can end the chapter, and then redistribute the extra pages elsewhere.

RDS_ Perhaps so, but CoM (unlike HP or even Lotr) was a phenomenon limited to the English-speaking world until the movies came out!
Scott, firstly, “Heptalogy” sounds fun. And lucky, as mentioned above.
Second, we’d have something worthwhile to fill out bookcases with (or at least, I will when I get a job and, um, a salary).
Thirdly… while title pages are fun, we’d simply be trying to turn these as fast as possible, the better to devour the story. So 2 chapters the size of 4 works.
Fourthly… To be perfectly honest, 4 chapters the size of each of the two you describe would work even better. Not that I’m greedy or anything, but everyone wants more of a good thing. 😛
7 books would be great. Not sure how the chapters would play into it. As Ironbandit said “your in the drivers seat.” As long as the content is there I don’t think chapters matter as much per book. Do what you do! We all love it.

I aprove of your NHL choices
I’m wondering about the future — One of my Asterix and Obelix books is actually a collection of five books bound into one volume. Is there a chance that The Dreamland Chronicles could be published as combined volumes in the future? Or would that be too many pages per book for publishers or bookstores to consider handling nowadays?

Your designs are amazing, and the story is brilliant. I’m glad you had the end in mind when you started: that tends to make a better story. It’ll be a shame to see it go, but it’ll be spectacular before it does.
As for the NHL… GO HABS GO! (Doesn’t look like they’ll do well though… 8th place and all…)

I think a leatherbound edition would be a wonderful idea. Your stories could be read as bedtime stories for generations to come, just like the berenstain bears and the cat in the hat.

ironbandit (should you be making your way back through the archives), bad news and good news from a die hard Jordan fan:
bad news: Robert Jordan passed away a year or two back (don’t remember the exact date, but you can google it … )
good news: He actually had all of the significant material written for the FINAL book in the Wheel of Time series, so another author has been authorized to put the material together for publishing. Again, I don’t remember the details off the top of my head, but I believe that it should be out in the next six months or so …

And then the publisher decided to stretch it into 3 books. First book reads like a drug out list of almost every single character in the series! Second one is much better but still reads like the new guy is “stretching his artistic legs”, so to speak.
