Page 854…
Well…I made another update.
🙂
It’s not the way I had the page laid out in storyboard. But I hope it works.
You guys won’t know until the next two pages come in.
I still need to relight the first 4 panels from last page…and of course the previous page before that.
But I’ll get to that when I’m healthy again.
In other news…
Brigid Alverson did a wonderful piece on me that came out yesterday. If you’d like to find out about my other books.

Thanks to Brigid and Publisher’s Weekly.
I’m still several weeks away from full strength. But hopefully as time goes by…I can sit longer and do more pages.
I should have another page by Friday. THen we’ll see how I feel over the weekend.
Thank you all. I know I’ve been saying this a lot. But…what more can I say?
🙂
Thanks
Scott
You’rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre welcome! Even though I don’t think I’ve personally POSTED anything lately, my heart is there with you, hoping for your recovery and being grateful for every piece of progress.
Hope it gets better soon!
Congrats on the publicity. I hope that it helps your other projects.
That is a horrible, horrible sword. But it IS Dreamland, so small points like usability and realism can be discarded.
ye
Thank you, but take care. You’re more important than any webcomic. So go slow. Having been overexerting can not be taken back.
No It Is You Whom We Should Be Thanking Scott, If It Wasnt For You And Such Dedicatedness We Wouldnt Have A Page To Read At All.
Yes, go slowly ! Health is more important than anything else, and then new pages are all the more welcome. Cheers, and hope you will get better fast 😉
Take care of youself.
No, as to the comic… RUN away!! I can see the eye opening in the last panel
Hoho, I got the sword!!
Me cut of elf princess’ head..
… silly heroes head…
… I am the heroe now!!!
Glad you’re getting better, Scott. Remember to keep looking after yourself 🙂
You’re welcome!
Glad you’re feeling better. New page on Friday would be great – BUT health comes first! (Great, here I am, sounding like my own grandma 😉 )
You’re in my thoughts.
We are the ones that should be thanking you. A page on Friday would be cool but don’t push it. Get better and do the pages to where you are happy with them then post them. We will still be here no mater how long it takes
I’d actually tell you to let the comic slide for a bit, but I understand how it is when you feel the need to do something, even if it hurts.
So glad to hear you’re taking it slow. Back’s are not something to rush.
As for a page on Friday? I agree with everyone else, it would be great to see one, but not if you’re hurtin’. I’m really curious to see why on earth he’s swinging the sword around like that.
You can do itttt~!!! Just focus on your health and don’t feel bad about not updating. After such a while with constant updates, I think we can live a couple weeks with odd updates (pretty much what Kamatu said. Can’t said don’t do it). But don’t push yourself.
Yet, anyway.
you’re welcome …. but really the thanks go to you for letting us see this story take shape on a daily basis.
Still … TAKE IT EASY MAN & GET BETTER !!!!
(do NOT make me repeat myself)
LOL
If I were to sit here and point out the history of giant swords in video games and television and such, I would be here all day. Suffice it to say, with swords, giant=awsome! Yes, it’s unrealistic(have you seen Cloud do the victory dance at the end of battle in FFVII?), but who cares? It’s cool! lol
You COULD say more. But you don’t have to. We’re your loyal fans. I’ve been far more patient with this comic’s updating since you got hurt than those I follow that only update twice a week (two or three pages each update) that always leave you with a cliffhanger.
Take your time getting well, Scott.
This page is beautiful.
I think he’s swinging that sword around because he is jealous of Alex’s mad skills.
Get better soon! Of course we would love to see pages as soon as possible, but you getting better is what is most important.
Congrats on the Article! It’s great to see your name out there. Best of luck in all that you do Scott.
Yay for recovery! Keep healing up and don’t push yourself. We’ll be (im)patiently waiting as long as it takes.
The way he’s swinging the sword around, I think it’s some kind of ritual to seek the soul of the sword, not so much the strength and balance.
As for the realism of the sword itself, who cares. Dreamland is so chockful of fantasy, and there have been many media forms before it, good and bad, using a similar sword. So why judge it? (And if you want to talk about fantasy swords, check out Inuyasha. The only realistic swords it contains are barely used.)
Good to hear you are doing better, Scott. 🙂 Please keep it slow but it is good to try and build your endurance (within reason) to sit and work. We’ll wait (im)patiently (and the lack of cliffhangers really help, if I may say so)
Very glad to hear you’re feeling better. But really, take your time! My best friend just went through hip replacement surgery. Though I hope your situation doesn’t require anything near that extreme, the same advice applies: let your body heal!! If you’re in pain, it’s because you’re doing something your body can’t handle yet. You’ll know when you’re capable of it.
You may not think the blade looks balanced, but that’ because you have no idea what it’s made of. Everyone knows that magic, cut-through-everything, dragon’s bane blades are made of distilled moonlight mixed wth croc tears. Those weigh almost mothing. And the counterweight is made of Ohmagosh which is not only pretty when polished, is really freakin’ heavy.
I can assure you that the blade is perfectly balanced and would be an excelent addition to any fantasy heroes arsenal.
I agree with the rest, Scott. Concentrate on getting better. An update on Friday will be wonderful, but your feeling better is top priority.
And I for one think that as fantasy swords go, this one rocks!
It is good to see that you decided to take it easy. You seem to be the type of people who would only stubbornly slow down for medical reasons (specially when told they need to) so I am glad to see you are taking care of yourself first. Other than that I have to compliment you on the comic, a very entertaining story and a very good art. Thank you.
I know I’ve said it before but, take it slow! Getting a new page is great but there’s something sour about it when we know we got it through your pain and suffering and at the risk of your health. Only do what you absolutely 100% know you can, we’ll be here whenever you’re all better just as eager for new pages.
Feel better!
Second what the others have said. Don’t feel obligated to post anything at all. Just work on them until you’re happy with them before you post them. (And don’t do that if your health demands otherwise, either.) Poorer quality updates is worse than no update at all. Just focus on getting well first, then the other pieces will fall into place.
Stop updating Scott!! 🙁
Get back into bed.
Glad to see that you are putting some pages up but not rushing yourself. You know we willw ait for you. And the article was great to read. Good to see you getting some recognition.
Thanks all.
I’m working on Friday’s page.
3 days a week is definitely do-able.
So we’ll do that for now.
Thunder.
Thunder!
Thunder Cats! Ho!
Just kidding, I couldn’t help my self.
But honistly great comic and you take care of your self.
When I look at this medicine man, all I can think of is “Is that a slain relative of Felicity on his head?” Most animals in Dreamland seem to talk and act human.
The last thing you should be worried about is finding a do-able schedule for making the comics. You should concentrate on getting better first.
And I agree with most of the avid readers, we’re the ones who should be thankful you actually took the time to make the page. But yeah, again, you first before the comics. 😀
I just started reading your story three days ago. Its sad I’m caught up already. XD But in any case…I have really fallen for these characters. I’ve almost gotten to the point of knowing what they will do next just based on the personalty. I say almost because I know that no one will know them as well as you do. Most writers are that way with the people they have created. 🙂
My girlfriend and I are writing a story together and it is comics like yours that gives me inspiration to continue the goal of getting mine and my girl’s story published. Your character’s tales are so emotional and heartwarming that it makes me want to bring out my characters and see if they can bring joy like yours have for me. Thank you for reminding me why I want people to know mine and my girl’s story…world.
Have you tried working while standing up to avoid stressing your back? You can rig a stand-up desk with a door across two sawhorses, or you can order one from a place like “The Stand-Up Desk Company,”
http://users.erols.com/standup/standup1.swf
Just don’t go swinging swords yourself, Scott. That would cause some back strain I’m SURE. 😉
Told ya’ the sword wouldn’t bite him. Probably
Mew3….
That is brilliant! Thundercats HOOooooo!
One of my favorite tv shows ever.
Attobuoy…
I’ve been considering it. Definitely. It’d let me work a bit easier.
Everyone else…
Thanks.
I’m working on tomorrow’s page. Hopefully it’ll go up without a hitch.
🙂
Goodness! I would much rather you take a few weeks off to rest. You’ve done so much for your fans that you deserve this when you need it so badly. You won’t lose us if you take a break.
Okay, good to see you back and feeling better, but still, don’t push. Ya know, I found you less than 2 weeks ago, but I’ll be sticking with ya thru to the end, and beyond. So, take your time, we’re all pulling for ya to get back in the saddle and healthy. You have the stories to tell, and we are here to listen/read. We’ll be doing our part no matter when you do yours.
“Thunder- Thunder- Thunder- Thundercats, HO!!!!”
Shoulda’ known somebody else would get to that before me…
You know, I just had to comment on the comments, despite that I’m still several months behind here. Everyone keeps saying, “don’t over-exert, do less updates, don’t stress yourself!” But have you considered that doing any less updates would probably be MORE stressful?
I work on computers, and I love what I do. I know that if I had to go for weeks without touching a computer, I would be absolutely miserable. (And, in fact, when I got sick last year, I bought and rigged up a wireless keyboard and mouse, and hooked my computer to my TV, just so I could work from my bed!)
It is clear to me that Scott loves his art as much as I love my tech. Trying to forgo it completely would not help him; the added stress would make matters worse. So Scott, my advice is make whatever logistical changes you need (a stand-up desk has been suggested above; or you might like my “work from bed” solution) so that you can work comfortably, and be happy without hurting yourself.
(Of course, I’m hoping this is actually a moot point by now; I’ll find out once I catch up to the current material … )
😉
I’m in the midst of an archive crawl, so I haven’t been reading the comments, but I had to check to see if anyone had made the obvious Thundercats joke. My faith in humanity is restored.
Although part of me is thinking, shouldn’t it be “Thundercentaurs, ho!” He’s not a cat, after all.
Are you saying that because you don’t like the way it looks?
Or is it because the blade is rather large, the pommel and handle rather small, and it gives the impression of being incredibly imbalanced? OR possibly because it looks like it should be wielded two-handed, and ends up looking very clumsy when swung around one-handed like that?
