Felicity Animated…
Playing around a bit more on what I can and can’t do (timewise) for these animated PDFs.
Here’s what another page will look like.
Click this image…then find that frame and click on it.
π
I can’t wait to get the full book up.
There should be about 4 or 5 animations per issue.
But will be fun.
OH MY GOSH THAT’S AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!! π π π π π
*clicks 20 million times*
*I screamed this too… out loud…* π³
But haha! IT’S PERFECT!!!!!!!!
Hopefully it didn’t take you too long to do it?
NOOO!!!! I can’t see it… my adobe reader is out of date and lame and the downloads won’t even recognize that it’s adobe (thats how old it is) but I’d love to if I could.
I’m sure it’s amazing.
WV
Felicity is SO CUTE… and the animation (both of them really, but this one IS Felicity, so… π is awesome. Except her sudden jerk is a bit too sudden. Looking forward to more!
Pretty amazing. The next level up from a web comic… Web anicomic!
Hiya Scott,
It’s just not working on my computer – I’ve downloaded Quicktime and restarted, and it still keeps prompting me to download the media player when I click the frame. I’m running the CS2 version of Acrobat (not Reader), at the moment I’m giving it a full update to see if that makes a difference.
Scrap that. The full update of Acrobat fixed the problem – and damn that looks awesome! XD
But you may want to warn people they may need to patch and update to get it working.
That’s so awesome!!! π
Still trying to get it to work. Vista and all. You can never restart a windows computer, you can only recrash it.
And on today’s comic…
I’ll bet Alex is getting tired of the whole sworded affair.
That is really impressive! Must have clicked it 50 times. It’s neat to actually see one of your characters animated.
It doesn’t seem to work with Foxit Reader. I updated to the newest version and still nothing. I want to see this but I don’t want Adobe Reader on my computer; it’s annoying and slow.
Wow Scott, it looks so good. I don’t know what I was expecting really but it truly feels like a little bit of the comic came alive! Loved the 180 turn as well. Will definitely be looking forward to how this can be used in storytelling!
So…pretty…
Wow, I wasn’t expecting some amazing 3D animation there…I was expecting more like…she would blink or something, nice work! I’ll have to re-download all of them once you’re done with this project. :C
*typed that above thing wrong…It was supposed to be…’I’ll have to download them’ π‘ I don’t know what was going on in my head there…
Wow, this is extremely impressive! I had no idea that you could get that far in depth, awesome job!
Looks like I need an update of Acrobat Reader. I’m using 7.0 and I only see the animation when I’m scrolling the page up or down.
Doesn’t work in Preview on OS X. Preview, if you don’t know, is the default app for viewing PDFs on the Mac.
Beautiful. Worth the extra effort to see it.
Wow! That’s fantastic!
this is just awesome!
i am super excited, this is totally taking webcomics to a new level
i love it!
Oh my gosh, I just love that! Felicity makes me so happy. I love her expression and the way her hair moves.
Thank you all.
I’m sorry if it doesn’t work on some versions. But I hope that everyone CAN get it to work if they just download the latest Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Either way. I’m uploading the new “ANIMATED” version of Book 28 to Wowio as we speak and there are a total of 6 animated goodies in it.
I’ll post when it’s up and available for download.
Thank you again for the support.
I’m really excited about this.
Really nice looking stuff Scott. I like how you get a peek into Felicity’s personality with the Animation.
Interesting stuff. The animation looks really smooth, and I can totally imagine seeing all the characters doing cool stuff.
You’ve partaken in an interesting debate, though…whether you intended to or not. With animated panels, you’re crossing the somewhat ill-defined line between sequential art and animation. Scott McCloud (www.scottmccloud.com) talks about this in his book Reinventing Comics, which I’m sure you’ve heard of, if not read.
Again, the animation is really great. I’d love to see some animated Kiwi or Nastajia (other than that banner you created some time ago :P).
Well that’s it then Scott. You’d best start looking for some voice actors for your characters. May I suggest Angelina Jolie as Felicity, Cameron Diaz as Nastajia and Keanu Reeves as Alexander?
I like the animation, its sweet. Is it possible to match the colors a bit more. And in the perfect world ™ could you either start or leave the animation on the same frame as the static image. Well done.
And now I should just get more annoyed at wowo not letting me download anything because I am not in the states.
OMG – I absolutely love it!
I’ve queued up all of your books on wowio – I didn’t know that they were there.
BTW – Any idea when book 2 will be in your online store? Will you be offering sketch editions of it as you did with book 1?
Thanks for all the hard work – Dreamland is a truly awesome and unique work.
oh this is absolutely awesome!!! i can’t stop clicking it!!!! i really wish i was in US just to see them all!!! WOW!!!
That’s funky π
I LOVE that!
Very interactive and really cool [=
I know it’ll look great. And I’d like to see it, I really would. But alas, I use Linux and I think there’s some corporate law against porting stuff to Linux π
Thank you (again)
Ted…yes. I may just be blurring the lines a bit.
But I’d rather say I’m simply adding “bonus features” to the comic. Not changing the way the comic is told.
Consider this the “director’s cut” with alternate views and behind the scenes stuff.
Nothing more.
Sincha…thank you so much. I’m getting Book Two (3 tons of books) delivered to my house today. So I’ll make the store changes this weekend if possible.
I’m watching the boys while my wife has a weekend away…so I may have to push it back to monday. We’ll see.
Emily. Thanks. Hopefully they’ll be able to let others in soon.
But if you have a friend in the U.S. you can always have them download the books and share…right?
Amy, Doug, Kheda,thank you!
James…
I do the best I can. but there’s a lot of enhancing done in PHotoshop that would take FAR too long to try and match in the animations.
I’ll continue to try to make it more seamless. But for now. It’ll have to be a learning process.
Thanks.
Sparcman…
You’re right. I’ll give them a call.
π
Martenzo…
Thanks. I would hope that you can have Adobe Acrobat on Linux. It’s a pretty standard piece of software.
You may want to check around.
If it’s up on Wowio, will we still be able to see it on the pages here on the main site? I don’t have Wowio.
There are open source alternatives to Adobe Acrobat on Linux, yes, but not the actual Adobe Acrobat program itself. I have one of the more common ones: kpdf and I also tried with several other pdf-viewing tools. But when I click on the frame, nothing happens. Thus my conclusion that I’m screwed.
Animated Comic, cool.
I’m reading your comic for months. It’s very funny, gread artwork.
And now animated… I thing this would be real fun. I’m waiting for. π
You try to use PDF? Ohm.., way not.
Think about flash?
Try a look at this flash animated comic: http://comics.cyberneticevilstudios.com/
Just a example how could it work…
I’m waiting for you animated comic book.
ArgRIB
Yes! I’ve never downloaded from Wowio, but if you do this to the whole series, I WILL! Go you!
Now you’ve done it. We’ll all be waiting for you to do an animated movie, and I for one will be ready to do some voice-acting. Not sure quite who, yet, but I’ll think of someone…
ooh there’s another emily here! =P
“Emily. Thanks. Hopefully theyΓ’β¬β’ll be able to let others in soon.
But if you have a friend in the U.S. you can always have them download the books and shareΓ’β¬Β¦right?”
ah that is true!! though the only friends i have up there are my uncles and aunties who are old and distant to me… :S i shall think on this…
@Martenzo
Adobe Acrobat Reader 8 does have a Linux version. I imagine your Distro doesn’t have it in it’s repositories because it is commercial software. There are many 3rd party repositoies that might have it, or best, download it directly from Adobe’s website:
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=10&platform=unix
I’m about to install it on my Linux partition now. Never had a need for it before, but some things XPDF cand’t do π
I use Adobe’s Linux version of Acrobat with no problem.
None of the clones work 100%, and Adobe makes their version available for just about every platform.
A lot of distros leave it out because it’s not open source, so you may need to go to Adobe’s web site to get it.
BTW – Flash isn’t any better than Acrobat in terms of Linux. They often are farther behind in their Linux releases than Acrobat, and are also excluded from many distros because of not being open source.
wtb gif version lol.
oh well. i’m sure it looks awesome π
Felicity is easily my favorite character, thank you. You had her move just like I thought her character should. Outstanding, found this comic by accident, now a bookmarked must-check site.
Doesn’t work in Preview on the Mac in Tiger, but works fine in Adobe Reader, just FYI…
