Animated PDFS!!!!
Ok…
I’ve been wanting to try something with Wowio for a while…and today…figured out how to do this.
Imagine clicking on a frame…and either seeing a 360 degree turnaround…or the characters moving.
I’m going to do this.
Here’s a test page.
Click on the top frame to see the movement.

To quote Johny Storm from the Fantastic Four movie…
Now picture that…BUT ALL OVER!
🙂
I’m going to work on adding in “Easter Eggs” throughout issue 28 (the latest issue) and the nice guys at Wowio say they’ll see what reaction is to it.
ANd if it’s good. I can go ahead and do the whole series.
Please let me know your thoughts.
Awesome! I love the 360 degree turn around!
Hmmmmm, can you say “Splitting Headache”? I think you can!
I dont know what’s supposed to move in that pdf file, but i’m not seeing it :S
Ok, now I see it, you have to open it in Adobe Reader. I tried on my dad’s pc and it worked. I use Sumatra PDF on my own pc 😛
Wow. Totally awesome!
I to am having Issues, just getting a White square.
I tripped over a web comic a few months back that was doing this for the whole book, they had one page every week or two, but each page came in “flat” format, and “animated” format. If I can find it again I’ll share the link.
That looked really awesome. I was just wondering, though, how come the baddy’s sword changes? It goes from being on one side of Alex’s sword to the other, seeming to pass through his blade. It’s freaky!
Cool!
Glad you guys are liking it.
Lord Bounty. I’m sure you may just need to update either Adobe Acrobat or Quicktime.
It’s gotta be either of those things.
M….
The sword is because that quicktime encompasses all three frames of that page. So the characters are shifting around to meet each frame. I didn’t animate it. But just let the computer interpolate the in between frames.
Thanks again.
Scott
(thinking) so there is no way to know which frame is going to animate and which isn’t (duh, that’s why they call it an Easter egg!), so instead of just admiring the art and the story, I’m going to go click-crazy on every single frame while I’m reading.
It’s a cool feature, but akin to unravelling your sweater for wool to knit your gloves.
I love this idea! Will the frames simply turn in their individual squares or will they open up a new tab/window?
It totally brought me into the whole Dreamland world having it show everybody around. <3!
Very cool! How long does it take to render the frames? I love the idea, but not if it delays production of the story.
AWESOME! 😀
I agree that the “easter egg” factor gets real old, real fast 🙁
Many DVDs have equivalent hidden features, but the frustration factor prevents most people from bothering to try to find them.
It’d be greatly appreciated if you provided an indicator when an animated view is available.
that is darn amazing. love it…
