Want a sneak peek at Monday’s Page?
I wanted to try something.
On Saturday and Sunday…I’m going to put Monday’s page up as vote incentives.
So if you click on the Top Web Comics one you get the first HALF of Monday’s page.
The Buzzcomix one will give you the SECOND HALF of Monday’s page.
You don’t have to look if you don’t want to.
It’s just for those that want to see it a couple days early and also vote for us on the list.
Go head and look at the vote incentives in the top right of the page (Just under the Forum link) and click away.
Please let me know your thoughts.
Scott
Hi long time reader first time writer. Man that sounds cheesey. Anyway, seriously I vote for you every time I hit the page. You’ve got a great comic the artwork is wonderful and the storyline is great. Reminds me a lot of the E. Nesbit and Edward Ormondroyd stories I used to read when I was younger.
did you notice that the last voting site no longer shows the vote incentive? it just shows a white page with links to get in with or without voting.
Hey, a comment:
I think it would be better if you just gave one selected panel off Monday’s page, instead of the whole page. If you do it like this, I might have to close my eyes when voting… 🙂
which may prove difficult! Or, you will lose votes for me not voting that day… 🙁
Ummm… who selects what ads will be shown on the side here? Currently I have something called “Adult Friend Finder”, which is not kinda nice/PG-13…
Maybe it is shown because I strayed into one of “those” pages a few days ago and it has found a cookie or something on my PC… I dunno how this is set up. But if that’s not it, maybe you should have the web page admin check what ads are accepted and not.
Google ads drop a tracking cookie onto your computer so they can “customize” the ads you see on a site that carries them. Norton and MacAfee both find tracking cookies during scans but mark them as low risk, so you have to tell them to delete the cookie (or set them to auto-delete low risk items).
Hi Scott!
Hmmm… putting up a preview is a good idea, but I agree with Bezman. A singel panel would probably be a better incentive, easier to load too. 😀 A couple other artists I read do that and it works out really well.
Let’s see… cons on the East coast. Well, there’s the New York Comic Con that’s supposed to be really good, though I’ve not been there yet. This coming December is the New York Anime Festival, by the same people who do NY Comic Con. One of my other fave webcomic artists is going to be there so I’m trying to convince hubby to go. heh. There’s also Otakon, which is in Baltimore. I know there’s one I’m missing. I think it’s up in CT in the spring, but I’m not sure. Keep us posted if you decide to do one! 😀
I also agree with Bezman, just one panel. Make sure the panel is really confusing or startling, so it gives us something to discuss on the forum! 😀
About DeviantArt from the last blog- I’ve had my account (bornahorse) since March. I’ve met some really nice, helpfull people there and have seen some great works of art in all mediums. I don’t know any other art-gallery sites, except Elfwood, which I would browse through occcasionally, but that was years ago. I don’t like the layout of the site anyway, mucho confusingo.
I use dA to post my work, recieve critique to make myself a better artist, to talk to fellow artists, browse other’s work for inspiration or just for fun, and as my blog.
Good lord! Don’t do just a single panel! Please! A page is good, it means I don’t have to wait until Monday (weekends are cursedly long when you’re waiting for Monday updates). If it’s just ONE PANEL, I’ll choke on my own pain. Teasers: baaaaaad. I vote sporadically, but if you give me Monday’s page for two votes on the weekend, I will do so every single week!
Thus making up for Bezman’s lack of vote for that day!!!!
Single panel works better, because if you’ve seen Monday’s page then there’s no real incentive to come back Monday. A teaser of what’s to come, on the other hand, will serve to titillate interest.
Maybe I’m just stupid, but how important are the rankings? Why is it important for us to vote? Will it bring you more money to be on top? Do people pick the webcomics they read by the rankings? (I don’t)
I don’t vote, regardless of the incentives, because I oppose the whole popularity contest concept. Votes don’t correspond to hits. A more meaningful ranking system would involve installing a hit counter and ranking the pages by the hits on the actual comics page, not by votes.
Anyone looking for new web comics to read will likely start at the top of the list and work down, Juliet. That’s what I normally do, at least.
The lists contain a lot of links, and given that most people are likely to give more attention to the start of the list as they’re more focused then, the chances of attracting new readers are improved if you are near the top of the list.
I didn’t actually find Dreamland that way, but I’ve discovered quite a lot of other web comics I read like that.
I honestly don’t like vote incentives, it seems like its cheating in a way, and if you showed monday’s comic, no one would look monday. Better though, you start a bonus sub-plot, and make it an incentive. That way, I won’t be missing anything if I don’t vote, but if I do, its more of a reward.
sorry for rambling.
