I hope you enjoyed this flashback with kid Nicole and kid Felicity.
I usually don’t do flashbacks with new characters because of the expense of creating them. But I think this was TOTALLY worth the cost. Karen did wonderful designs, Ivan did great models and I think it all worked out pretty well.
It was supposed to be insightful, but fun, innocent, and of course…a bit tragic.
I hope I hit all those points.

As you know…Felicity came out OK I guess. But she does have a history with Nicodemus. She was trained, they tried to recruit her, but she escaped. She’s been a fugitive ever since.
Finally…faced with “certain doom” with her last capture…she was forced to befriend Alex and…well…you know the rest.
I haven’t really figured out how to get all of this into the story…as there’s SO much more to tell.
But I’m working on it.
Anyways. Let me know your thoughts.
Tomorrow…it’s back to the “real world” with Nicole and Dan.

It will be interesting to see how Nicole will now transition to a believer in Dreamland. I think she’s still going to resist, but start to believe gradually.
I agree with SparcMan. I think it’ll be an eye-opener for Nicole. What I wonder is if she’ll get an opportunity to visit Dreamland again and at least give Felicity a hug or something?
That was awesome. Now we just need Alex to play messenger between the two. It would be so cute~! BFF!

I’m wondering if Nicole is going to visit Dreamland again, since she now probably realizes that it’s real, and help Felicity recover. Would make a wonderful wake-up surprise for our favorite feline probably.

I’ve loved the flashback, but I had a thought that perhaps in the last 2 frames, Nicole would start to fade due to waking up. Get to do some extra specular(?) lighting on the tears on her translucent face, something like that. Certainly I could see where this might have been Nicole’s last visit to DreamLand.
Anyway, my 2 cents, for what they’re worth. Been loving the comic, and looking forward to tomorrow.
I don’t want to write too much of a book of a comment… or to seem as though I’m going in to excess with flattery (I really love the comic, and am glad I found it!) but I do have one hopefully constructive comment.
In the last panel, it looks like Nicole’s tears are almost yellowish. I’m unsure if it’s my monitor (laptops don’t really give you many options to adjust … well… anything) or if it was intentional. I guess, when it goes to print perhaps a very light blue, with white highlights and deep violet/blue shadows might work well.
Also, I’m very glad to hear that your back while not in stellar condition, won’t require surgery!
Actually, Scott, you don’t need to work it all that much, I think most of us got it by now.

Well Things Could Be Worse, Nic Could Capture And Torture Nicole Horribly and That Would In Turn Lead Nicole To Suppress Dreamland. Hopefully We Will See A Reunion Between Fel And Nicole in Dreamland Once They Can Figure Out How To Get Alexs Brother Back To Dreamland As Well
If you’re looking for how to tell the story of Fel’s past from this point to the present, you could always have Fel relate her flashback to Alex, just like Nicole told Dan about this.

I wonder if Nicole would be able to reenter dreamland now, if she wears the sword pendant. Would be noce for them to reunite even if only for a night, and she would possibly be the perfect person to lead Felicity out of her ..coma?

i say do a MONTAGE sequence, could be done as a flashback of 1 – 3 pages … certainly be worth it!

I like the turn and am curious whats gonna happen next. Will Nicole probably visit dreamland again? Will Alex lend his sword to her to do this?(That one appeared to be a key to Dreamland for adults.) Will this probably improve Nastajias and Felicities relationship if Nicole enlightens that dark chapter of her youth and make them fellow combattants in the fight against Nicodemus? Oh- anticipation! Looking forward to more revealings. 😀
I’m wondering if that’s the last time Nicole dreamed. I guess we’ll find out tomorrow when she starts wrapping up her tale with Dan. It’ll be interestign to see how much Dan tells Alex and what Alex then tells Felicity about Nicole.
Oh, and I found a dead tree volume 3 yesterday at the comic shop! Loved the extras in the back… except I’m going to have to go back and re-read some of it with my glasses… the print was just *that much* too small on some of them. Thanks for including such great extras, Scott!
Man, now I REALLY want to see the dragon defeated by Alex.
Oh, I knew I was going to need tissues *sniff* poor Nicole. No wonder she never went back to Dreamland! It would be sweet to have some sort of a Nicole / Felicity reunion even if it’s just Alex relaying things.

Awesome as always Scott. The cuteness factor of this story arc was a bit over-the-top in that nauseating sweet cute kinda of way (all good of course) but it filled in some important back-story on Felicity and got Nicole one step closer to believing Alex and Dan.

I smell a Felicity spin-off! you could do a side story about felicity growing up working for Nicodemus, but looking for ways to escape and find nicole again. it could be the Dreamland version of Smallville! LOL

Man, those guards can’t run worth a lick. Nicodemus either doesn’t really care or has too much confidence in them to notice.
In retrospect, Kid Nicole looks kinda creepy. I’m not sure the SD kid looks works for her.
O_O No worries, Scott, you inserted Felicity’s backstory perfectly, and you’re an obvious genius and I can’t wait for more. Felicity’s an awesome character and I’m glad she joined the group (Least I hope she joined the group and is an honest friend of the gang. Who knows what kind of “Pysch!” we may get in the future.)

ok well let me tell you about my character in d&d i am a bard and incase you don’t know what that is let me explain. a bard is a person that goes into caves (filled with monsters that want to kill you) and sings,but i am going to be an awesome bard because i am going dragon disciple and incase you don’t know what that is let me explain.a dragon disiple is a person that finds out that somwhere down his line of heratige there is a dragon (from gold,bronze,silver,red,black,….and some others i cant think of)and can (in farther lvls.)release the dragon blood making him more like a dragon and at the rate i’m going sadly i’ll need to be lvl. 16 to be a half dragon and i chose gold.(well thanks for listening to me ramble on with my characterin d&d)ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY BARD!!!!!!!

I don’t think you need to cover Felicity’s entire history to Alex. The readers can fill in the story by themselves. Maybe a simple dialogue between Felicity and Alex, with an enthusiastic hug, would suffice. Alex seems too selfish to understand Nicole’s complex emotions right now…
I didn’t like Nicodemus at first. Then I came to hate him. Now I LOATHE him.
I love how you gave us Felicity and Nicole’s past. It makes me feel for them all the more.

If/when Nicole is able to return to meet Felicity, she is inevitably going to ask Felicity ‘what happened afterwards?’ I would really be interesting in seeing at least a few panels of Felicity working for Nicodemus. Partly this is because I like seeing good people suffer, but I’m curious about what she actually did for him. Perhaps she spied on Nastajia’s parents for Nicodemus, leading to their eventual disappearance? Stole artifacts? Helped the Nightmare Realm creatures locate humans to capture? If Scott ever did a grown-up story set in Dreamlands, Felicity’s time with Nicodemus could be the perfect setting.
