Page 975…
Hey guys. I’m officially back from Baltimore.
Had a great time.
But first…
I hope you like where this is going. Alexander needed something MORE than just him. He needed a REASON to fly. A reason to try.
Nastajia is that reason.
π
It wasn’t easy trying to come up with a “learning to fly” moment that wasn’t like other movies and stories. Hook, The Matrix, Sky High, and Greatest American Hero are just SOME of the things that went through my mind when writing this sequence.
Just “believing” you could fly wasn’t an option. Fear in Dreamland comes into play as well. Remember? You lose your powers if you let fear in.
So…what would be the impetus for Alexander flying?
Then it hit me…
Love.
Determination.
Even Anger.
And…there we are.
You’ll get a bit more as the days and weeks progress. But…since you’ve all been so vocal on the comments (and I thank you for that)…I thought I’d post some thoughts up here.
Anyways. I posted a wrap up of Baltimore Comic Con.
Just scroll down…or click here…
http://thedreamlandchronicles.com/2009/10/12/baltimore-comic-con-wrap-up/
Thanks!
Scott
It is about time Alex found his backbone and guts.
Awwww… Nastajia is Alex’s happy thought! -WAFF-
Alex: “I WON’T leave you again Nastaj..” WHUMP!!!!!
Always too slow Alex π
Alex looks so manly in the last panel =D is that his shoulder on his left in the last panel? Haha, cosplaying Alex’s armor would be hard… the felicity and kiwi cosplays were so cute though ^___^
If this works, I will try doing this in my dreams, too! 83
But first I need to find a friend of the opposite gender that I’m close to. 8C
And then he flies up and punches Orion in the face! Perfect! π
Funny, you should mention that as the motivation for change in his life. As a future youth pastor, I’m doing some reading and actually posted this as my Facebook status tonight-
“You must take the view that instead of FOLLOWING your heart, you are choosing to LEAD your heart. The world says to follow your heart, but if you are not leading it, than something or someone else is. …The truth is love is a decision and not just a feeling. It is selfless, sacrificial, and transformational.” – Alex and Stephen Kendric, “The Love Dare”, viii-ix
Fascinating that your post and mine- especially the last sentence- coincided with one another in thought!
Manly moment!!!!
Now, how to get to that—SPLAT!!!
Scott, I like your list, but it is incomplete.
Love, Determination, Even Anger, . . . . . . . beer.
Never underestimate the power of beer.
Don’t believe me? There is a graphic here that gives a convincing story that beer has been the primary driving force for civilization.
http://digg.com/d3ooBD
On the serious side, I like the way you’ve resolved this. Alex had to have a determined side to him. And it’s his commitment to Nastajia that finally unleashed it. And yes, it does come across as much fresher than the usual fantasy trope. I’ve read bunches of Sci Fi/Fantasy and the only one that comes to mind that is remotely similar is Frank MIller’s Ronin. But in that story, pain and frustration rather than determination are the trigger.
Hm. I wonder if we’re going to see some centaur booty being kicked tomorrow?
Hmmm. Scott, are you familiar with the Enneagram? Basically it’s a personality classification mechanism. It groups people into one of 9 categories or “types” (Helper, Peacemaker, observer, etc.).
I’d put Alex in the Enthusiast type #7: undisciplined, adventurous, and becomes critical under stress. But when a seven experiences personal growth, they acquire the best qualities of the Investigator type #5: sharp focus.
Do you use personality systems like the Enneagram as a sounding board for your characters and their reactions/growth?
heh thats the first thing i thought of. Alex now can fly. and the Centaur next gets punched π
ROFLMAO! Too funny! π
Never underestimate love. it is something that binds to death, and beyond.
The last panel would be even more awesome without the word bubble, Alex’s mouth closed, and made as the focus of a desktop background. The positioning of the bubble makes it on the difficult side to remove, and I’m bad at it anyway, otherwise I’d make one myself.
But seriously…. Alex has been an immature protagonist up until this chapter. Good to see he’s grown, all while keeping his humor (bad as it is sometimes).
So in short you took a pre-written line.. hmm not bad .. not bad,, just saying though
Matrix lead up you can do it neo, long pause, “NO” kinda a “matrix” hook after the quote he says before this I find it a little to clipped, idk I figured he was going to go for a. and pixie gives him farie dust and he can fly again.. joke.. no I was really thinking he was going to remember his dedication to her and her name would be what he said instead of “no”
“I promise I’ll never leave you again” “Nastajia” w/e your comic just how I saw it.. bah..
Yeah, that’s what I’m predicting… or at least he’s going to try to. I’m betting Orion will see that coming as well.
Ah ha!!! Zoom up and triple kick that guy! I LOVE that determined look in his eye! It’s PERFECT!! Couldn’t have done it better Scott! It’s the perfect mix up motivation and emotion! π π π and I agree with you Acies, he does look soo manly in that last shot! Its, its, freaky like he’s so dangerous now because he has a reason look out world here come the hero!!! Don’t mess with this guy! Oh wow, ok I’m done now. π ;D
anger? anger is GOOD!!!
like “that bastard, he’s going to get it!” and whooosh, up we go to give orion a piece of our mind. π
I kinda like the anger approach better than the “for love” one. π (though it looks like it’s going to be a mix here, so I’ll most likely be fine with it too… ^^)
love alex’s expression in the first panel. like he can’t decide if he should be surprised or resigned. LOL
that would mean the cliff wasn’t so deep. he might just survive it… and the amount of pain he’d be in would teach him not to anger orion anymore. π
but it’d be a great slapstick scene. had me giggling. π
I like the anger option. Centaur skin rug, anyone? π
His face in the last panel is just PERFECT XD
Like others have said, he definitely became a man right there. I can take him seriously now.
Ironic, because he never used to take anyone seriously XD
and even without that theory… beer in the right amount makes reckless, maybe exactly what he’d need… π
I figured that Orion was really just trying to teach Alex a lesson!
mmmmm……………….beer.
You know, that last panel kind of reminds me of that scene in the Matrix where Neo finally figures out he’s The One, and that he can bend the reality of The Matrix to his will and stop bullets. IIRC, Neo had the same motivation Alex is having, and even uses the same line.
I guess that’s #87 on the list of ways Dreamland is similar to The Matrix.
(P.S. I don’t actually have 86 other items on that list, but I’m sure we can think of at least that many if we try.)
Hmm… just saw “Neo’s” post above, so I guess I’m not the only one who saw the Matrix connection.
And by “motivation” I meant love, of course. In Alex’s case, Nastajia, in Neo’s case, Trinity.
If it was me there I would probably sprout wings only because I really want to fly(even though it hard work that way). It is a bit crazy to want to, but I never said I was sane.
Heyo, I’ve not been around to post before, but have been reading the comic for a while.
Anyway, the expression in the last panel reminded me of another reluctant hero π
http://img327.imageshack.us/img327/3715/squall4ui.jpg
Think there’s water below him that he is about to smack in to?
I still hope Alexander decks Orion afterwards. Because they’re not friends and I don’t think Alexander is forgiving enough to let being tossed off a cliff slide, even if the end results are positive.
I don’t think beer counts for this one… I would have to find out if you can still feel love, anger, and be determined while smashed against the wall. I of course mean the same sensations of the same emotions and not the “I love you guys” drunken mumbling for love, and relative intelligence when your angry is pretty normal, a drunk who is angry starts a bar fight. Determination is the anti-thesis to recklessness usually. Usually. But I can imagine what it would have been like if Orion had let Alex have a six pack before he chucked him over the cliff.
… I am seriously considering how to stop thinking and assuming stuff in regards to this comic. You managed to make Alex at least partially respectable in the last panel. I know the sequence running through his head pretty well (I have thought of some thing very similar… and no, you don’t want to know). I figure that if he doesn’t fly pretty soon, we get to find out if that really is a reflection off of still water on his right shoulder right before we get to find out how much of a beating the armor can take.
Orions totally at the the top of the cliff going “Yeah, knew it would work, I’m so smart. *gloat gloat gloat*”
ok maybe with the thought of love Alex can fly. but he won’t do it very good lol
Actually, I bet that Orion has more up his sleeve than he lets on. I seriously doubt that Alex has what it takes to best Orion. Not only is he smarter than Alex, he can probably defend himself as well, especially since Alex has never had any hand to hand combat training. My bet is on Orion winning any confrontation between them.
Hellz yeah, Squall is freakin awesome!
Scott, the problem is how do you play “there is no spoon” in a different way? Of course, there really isn’t a different way, just different ways of displaying it. Nicely done, love, what may be the only sincere promise Alex has made in his life and, yes, anger. I like it.
Its like falling off a bike you never for get how to fly till you are faced with a thing that you care about more then fear.
i think he will learn as he just about to hit, and come back and hit Orion since there not friends and horse tip Orion on his side and try to use the sword on him, but the sword will come alive and wont allow it to be used to kill or hurt orion
Thank you.
That is a very nice quote!
Never heard of this.
Is this scientific? Or fiction?
Ha. I love your nickname considering your comment.
π
I definitely love that scene in the movie.
And while I was trying to avoid any similarities…
“No” just seemed right.
Good Morning.
And thank you all!
So glad you like where this has gone.
I am trying to keep it entertaining…and not too cliche’
π
Thank you all for reading.
Theory. There have been several books on it. I’m sure you can google the heck out of it.
aww love is a nice answer indeed ^^
π Aww! I love that this is his motivation!
Also… something that went through my head–people have been commenting all along that Alex was too immature to be king, and this is the primary reason why people suspect Dan is actually the rightful king (and he’s a few minutes older than Alex). He IS too immature to be king right now, but could the last panel be the beginning of a tranformation that changes that?
He looks pretty calm for a guy who’s falling to his death π
those eyes are super intense
Just got a flash back to watching Disney’s Sword and the Stone where Arthur is questioning Merlin about love.
Merlin: You know, lad, that love business is a powerful thing.
[the girl squirrel, sobbing, watches Arthur slowly walk away]
Arthur: Greater than gravity?
Merlin: Well yes, boy, in its way… yes, I’d say it’s the greatest force on earth.
(Opening this morning’s page)
Nancy: “Mom, Is he safe yet?”
Me: “No, but..”
Nancy: “Don’t want to hear it.”
Scott, she will be back, but it might help if by Friday, Orion’s neck is just inches from Alex’s sword point and Nastajia is working to separate them.
Haha. The last panel is the badass look.
Ha ha.
I’ll get on that.
he is going to fly… he is going to fly!!!!!!!!!!(my grammaticthingshere sucks…:P)
that first panel, LOL…
why am i always boxers alex??? sigh…
LOL!!
Think the panel would be much more intense with the flash back being to nastajia’s ‘everyone leaves me’ quote alone. I’d have four panels as follows: Alex falling, closeup of Alex panicked at falling, nastajia quote, close up of Alex determined ‘No’
The addition of the Alex vow quote takes away from the immediacy of the danger/scene, it spoon feeds the reader more than is necessary (even if they are young), imho.
Great comic none the less.
oh and alex looks too calm in the first panel, have Nastijia’s initial ‘please don’t leave me’ speech bubble in the panic close up, the change between the two closeups would further drive home what causes Alex’s change of heart (and saves his life).
*chuckle* I’ll stop now.
Epic, epic, epic! Absolutely epic! This week will rock, and it’s gonna get even harder to wait till morning to see the next page rather then stay up all night.
Alex, I strongly implore you to punch Orion. He deserves it, just as you deserved getting your cute bum handed to you and then some.
Love is the strongest force in the universe, even stronger than both the light and dark sides of the Force combined. Go for it, Alex. Deck that knuckleheaded Orion one.
See? I just knew that Alexander Carter liked beer!
Umm. .. Alex? What did you do to your hair? π
There are also workshops all over the world where you can ask questions of people who identify with each of the 9 personality types. This gives a one-on-one interaction with people of different motivations and helps you understand what makes them tick.
Hey, Jac!
Check out the junior cosplayers from Scott’s Baltimore Con trip!
It brings to mind the scene from Matrix where Neo is in the training program working up his confidence to jump from one rooftop to the next…
“What if he makes it?”
“No one ever makes it their first try.”
“I know but what if he does?”
And Neo plants in the rubber asphalt… Now put Alex there.
But I have to hand it to you Scott: That last panel is perfect! A true artist you are.
I just hope that Dreamland isn’t the same as The Matrix when it comes to “The Jump” program–Nobody makes it on their first try!
“He can fly!” Right, next page maybe? Or the page after that?
Holy Crap, I love the serious look on his face. It gave me chills π *giddy squee* Suddenly I’m starting to like the dork a great deal more. Lets hope he keeps it up.
I know! I was wondering the same thing about his hair! If he’s plummeting, then why isn’t his hair flying in the wind? Two explanations come to mind. Either this is all happening in the hang time before the actual fall…. Or Dreamland produces some HEAVY DUTY HAIR STYLING GEL! LOL!
Course, I haven’t had hair to fly in the breeze for quite some time, now…
I knew it! I saw where it was going yesterday! Love the underlying lessons behind this scene!
Nothing works better than detirmination.
I hope I will never need detirmination at a time like that – having just been chucked off a cliff but a ‘wise’ tough-guy centaur. I’ll need detirmination tomorrow – have hockey all day at school. Tiring!
Sounds like you had fun at Baltimore. Great comic by the way. π
I love his eyes on the last panel. Amazing job!
Finally! That’s the fire I’ve been waiting for from you young man. You have been far too passive.
Ditto. Hooray for Alex bothering to be motivated about something!
he wont be thinkin that after alex comes up and gives him one in the face !!! XD
Same here nate xD
haha im better XD my alex is sipping on a milkshake ( <3s milkshakes) xD
or atleast it looks like it haha , looks kinda like a straw lmao
Wait a sec…. I thought Orion said he WASN’T going to go for the “drop Alex off the cliff and hope he survives” tactic…. I seem to remember him saying that it would be stupid……
Amen!!!! xD CHAAAARGEEEEE!!!!!!
So we have a centaur behaving in a classically centaur way (they’ve never been noted for fondness for humans, especially not rude ones), and Alex finally taking on an expression and determination we’ve been waiting for. ‘Tis grand, Scott. Looking forward to seeing what happens next.
Hear hear; that’s a great quote, and very true!
(long post, sorry!)
I’ve always been a fan of Douglas Adams’ approach to flying:
The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy has this to say on the subject of flying.
There is an art, it says, or rather a knack to flying.
The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.
Pick a nice day, it suggests, and try it.
The first part is easy.
All it requires is simply the ability to throw yourself forward with all your weight, and the willingness not to mind that it’s going to hurt.
That is, it’s going to hurt if you fail to miss the ground.
Most people fail to miss the ground, and if they are really trying properly, the likelihood is that they will fail to miss it fairly hard.
Clearly, it’s the second point, the missing, which presents the difficulties.
One problem is that you have to miss the ground accidentally. It’s no good deliberately intending to miss the ground because you won’t. You have to have your attention suddenly distracted by something else when you’re halfway there, so that you are no longer thinking about falling, or about the ground, or about how much it’s going to hurt if you fail to miss it.
It is notoriously difficult to prise your attention away from these three things during the split second you have at your disposal. Hence most people’s failure, and their eventual disillusionment with this exhilarating and spectacular sport.
If, however, you are lucky enough to have your attention momentarily distracted at the crucial moment by, say, a gorgeous pair of legs (tentacles, pseudopodia, according to phyllum and/or personal inclination) or a bomb going off in your vicinity, or by suddenly spotting an extremely rare species of beetle crawling along a nearby twig, then in your astonishment you will miss the ground completely and remain bobbing just a few inches above it in what might seem to be a slightly foolish manner.
This is a moment for superb and delicate concentration.
Bob and float, float and bob.
Ignore all considerations of your own weight and simply let yourself waft higher.
Do not listen to what anybody says to you at this point because they are unlikely to say anything helpful.
They are most likely to say something along the lines of, “Good God, you can’t possibly be flying!”
It is vitally important not to believe them or they will suddenly be right.
Waft higher and higher.
Try a few swoops, gentle ones at first, then drift above the treetops breathing regularly.
Do not wave at anybody.
When you have done this a few times you will find the moment of distraction rapidly becomes easier and easier to achieve.
You will then learn all sorts of things about how to control your flight, your speed, your manoeuvrability, and the trick usually lies in not thinking too hard about whatever you want to do, but just allowing it to happen as if it was going to anyway.
You will also learn how to land properly, which is something you will almost certainly cock up, and cock up badly, on your first attempt.
There are private flying clubs you can join which help you achieve the all-important moment of distraction. They hire people with surprising bodies or opinions to leap out from behind bushes and exhibit and/or explain them at the crucial moments. Few genuine hitch-hikers will be able to afford to join these clubs, but some may be able to get temporary employment at them.
(from Life, the Universe, and Everything by Douglas Adams)
I’m enjoying the way this is going – though I’ll suggest it may be a good thing that the canyon is as deep as it is. No time for long flashbacks here! I’ve been to the Grand Canyon, so I can imagine Alex’s perspective about now.
That being said, a few quibbles. (Sorry, can’t help myself.) I assume it’s part of the way his armor is articulated, but I’m not really sure what’s there next to his right leg; it almost looks like his left leg came off and got attached to his shoulder, at the top of the page. Probably a trick of perspective – I’m sure you’ll show things from a different angle that will make it a little more clear tomorrow.
About those boots. They’re pretty dramatic visually and do make a fashion statement – but I can’t help but think if Alex goes into traditional flight mode, those wide tops will act like air brakes. That or his slipstream will pull them off if he goes too fast!
On the other hand, I can also see where Alex’s armor would give him a real edge in flight – he ought to be able to fly a lot faster than he could without it (if he puts his mind to it). Who knows? If he can project his shield in front of him, he might even be able to go Supersonic. Speaking of whom….
http://www.herocopia.com/index.php/Image:Supersonic_fly.jpg
I’ve got one more, but I think I’ll save it because if I’m right, I don’t want to step on your lines, so to speak. (And if I’m wrong, no one will be able to prove anything. π )
p.s. Thanks for promising to show us how this turns out by Friday!
Or…………..He’s FLYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! could it be that he is already hovering?
The suspension is killing me!
Your icon goes great with your post.
He’s sucking on the sword necklace actually.
I dunno, I think he is being too calm for someone who was just thrown off of a cliff. He should at least be waving his arms and legs.
ditto!
Wow. I thought that would come out all cheese and corn. But it came out well. I liked it.
RG: maybe he got some hair gel from the mer-people–they always seemed to have their hair firmly under control…
It depends on whether Orion had Kiwi in reserve–just in case–doesn’t it?
On the other hand, I wonder what Orion had for the next plan if this one fell through, so to speak.
It would have been stupid then, but time has passed and circumstances are different, if only in Alex’ mind, which is where the whole problem lies anyway…
Heh! Alex gets thrown off a cliff and lands on a big pile of thought bubbles!
I can’t wait to see Paddy’s reaction when he learns he can fly once again.
You are doomed to be boxers Alex until you get a gravatar and choose your own, or start a new account (name) here…and even that might not work.
“I sense much beer in you, beer is the path to the dark side, beer leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering…” / Yoda in American Jedi (a video clip I saw about 10 years ago)
Sounds awsome π
Could be worse, you could be a one-eyed monster
BUTTKICKING FOR GOODNESS!!!
SO nice! And I like the panel styling for the flashbacks too.
FLY Alex, FLY!!
Hopefully it will look something like your avatar picture. π
Remember, this is Alex we’re talking about, not Ambush Bug.
For those of you under the age of 40, Ambush Bug was a comic character who spent his time breaking every comic book convention that existed, plus one you didn’t know existed. He would argue with his creator/artist all the time. In one memorable instance, the artist walked away from the table and his 5-year old son finished the story. And Marvel printed it, just like that.
Actually, the avatars are based on the e-mail address, rather than the name. Use a different name with the same e-mail, you get the same avatar, but if you use the same name with a different e-mail, you get a different avatar.
“Boy, you sure are one mean drunk, Superman.”
I find it interesting that Alex is constantly being reamed for being “immature”— when he’s in a situation where the only sane response would BE to be immature. One world says he’s just a college kid, the other one says he’s a prophesied king; one world is liable to lock him up or experiment on him, the other one throws monsters at him (which, I might add, he faces and fights instead of running away….) Elves, pixies, psychiatrists, tapdancing rock giants, college classes, half-horse yoda wannabees… if you couldn’t stay laid back in the midst of all that you’d snap.
As to whether he’ll kick the shaman’s horsey butt: Alex is generally portrayed as too nice to attack someone for merely throwing him off a cliff. But assuming this pisses him off enough to actually retaliate— head-to-toe armor and a sword that can slice through solid rock make up a LOT for any lack in hand-to-hand combat.
Hmm… while I think Love is a major factor in Alex learning to fly, it’s not actually the reason Alex will fly. Where Faith and Belief are not enough to allow an adult to fly in Dreamland, I believe that it is Determination which steels the will and overcomes fear that let’s an adult fly, and Love is the primary ingredient in Alex’s Determination.
when he gets back up to that horse, i hope he kicks his @$$
AMEN TO THAT!!!
Whee, look at how dilated Alexβs pupils are.
Somewhere deep down Alex knew that being dropped off a cliff is not a death sentence, he knew that he could save his own life by waking up. But there was still an expletive-load of adrenaline pumping into him for fight or flight (typed that and then realised pun) as his body reacted to Orionβs actions.
Now though Alex has realised something else, that if he did save his life by waking up he could never return. There was a chance with Nicodemeusβ tower that his friends might have been able to do something as they knew he would reappear there and falling, but here the only one that knows his plight is Orion.
So Alex knows that Orion might not succeed in killing him but whether Orion succeeds or not he would force Alex to break his promise to Nastajia (either in death or absence). Orion is going to make Nastajia cry and force Alex to make her cry.
Never mind the movies mentioned, Iβm thinking more βThe Incredible Hulkβ where Bruce Banner has realised there is the trap, he has been chased through the university grounds and buildings, heβs been trapped in the glass over-corridor and then had the gas canisters fired in through the glass. All of that stress and he has managed to keep his heart rate low enough to not transform.
But then he sees Betty being grabbed and held by a couple of soldiers.
RAAAAAAARRRRARAAARRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!
Just think of a wonderful thought…
….any happy little thought? XD
ROFL!
“Supah Flying Punch!!!”
Hi I read all the Dreamland chronicles 3 weeks ago and i’m new here
Why do I have to be a TROLL!
You know BobbyJ there are kids on the website, which happens to be ME i’m younger than 18 or 16 so don’t say curse words and i LOVE dreamland chronicles
Flying is like riding a bike…or is it like riding horse? When you fall off the bike, or horse, or get thrown by the horse, er.. thrown off the cliff by the horse? You get right back up, up, and away, again on the bike, horse, fly, and try again. No, wait, there is no “try”, only “not”s and “do”s, and “do not”s.
Ah well, what I mean is once you know how to do it you never forget. Unless you grow up and forget. Then it’s forgotten. Not really, just gone, but not forgotten. Then there’s the fear that minds the cloud, because you think you’ve forgotten, when it really just gone. And a wasted mind is a terrible thing to fear.
That’s it. No more old sayings for me. Or as the old saying goes, nuts.
Give up Alex and take off!
ooooh!! amazing page. i LOVE alex’s expression, esp his eyes, in that final panel.
Wait… are you saying that Alex is lacking in the strategic department? Charging straight ahead is a strategy!!!
Nah… Cliche would be Felicity suddenly flying over the top of him and sprinkling dust on him. π
Did I say Felicity? I meant Kiwi. *^_^*
Hey, this is exactly like that one movie . . . nah, I’m kidding. Although it hit me that this was sort of his NO moment like Wyatt had at the river in Tombstone. Not a rip off, just that there’s a time when you just have to man up and declare that something bad simply IS NOT going to happen, period.
I love it how you used determination and love instead of fear. SUPER AWESOME!. As for Alex and Orion, I feel that Alex will THANK Orion for pounding some sense into his thick skull. When I saw this comic, I though of this quote, “Move? You’re alive. If you want, I can fly.” (This was after Buttercup realizes that Westley is alive).
instead of trying to smack orion upside the head, I see him rising up, arms crossed, ala Michael J. Fox in Back to the Future 2, when he landed on the Delorian.
Very well done Scott. Thanks for the good work.
Um… y’know, there’s still no way to tell if he’s started to control his flight or not yet… He could just be having a sudden moment of revelation as to his reasons to fly… but just a moment too late. momentum–>rocky floor–>splat–>argh–> end of world or something..
I guess narrative imperative means he will fly now… that, and the author has pretty much he will fly now…
There’s some iron in that backbone after all. π I’m so pumped about this!!!
Yay! He’s finally growing up! It’s one of those things I’ve been waiting for yet dreading to see…
Squall- along many of the other characters in that game- was great (and so was the concept of the gun blade; I didn’t grow nearly as bored in battle since I had to actually pay attention to timing my hits with the R button!), but I didn’t think that game as a whole- particularly in the storyline department and the draw system- was all that great. But, that is personal opinion.
Beautiful reference!
I love that your kid is so into this! That says much for Scott’s ability to create an awesome bedtime story that we can all read to our children! π
Falcoooon Puuuunch!
That’s what I had in mind also when I saw that, but I figured with all the movie references being thrown around, I wasn’t going to mention the river scene with Wyatt and Doc Holliday (“I’m your huckleberry!”). lol Excellent reference, and nice synopsis of how they compare in regards to manning up.
I’m assuming that this moment, where Alex decides to turn the table on his fate, is alot like the scene in the first Matrix where Neo dies and Trinity resurrects him by telling him that she would fall in love with “The One”. That is where he begins to realize his capabilities as the standout figure of the Matrix saga (and learn to be “Superman”), so I’m guessing that Alex has finally found (or re-found) at least some of his capabilities as the standout figure of this saga as well.
I KNOW right!
they’re friggin’ adorable XD
Ditto that
Well, about your (p)unintended pun it wasn’t far from other puns that have been thrown around since the cliffhanger
GREAT SCOTT! That just might work XD
Thanks gbfluteman. And since tomorrows comic is out we can see that it was a turning point for Alex, just like it was for Wyatt.
What’s that? I’m out of coffee? no. No. NO!
OK, didn’t know that. But I figured someone might.
I have to mention here (a little behind, I know…long work hours, this weekend), Scott, that you seemed to get Alex’s eyes JUST right in that last panel.
It did a PERFECT job to accurately convey every last bit of his determination.
π
Alex: “Wait, that’s it! These flashback panels will cushion my fall!”
oh HELLS yeah!
Apparently, he also found his purple eye shadow XD
Lol, well played on Orion’s part
