Page 723…
I hope the action came across OK on this page.
Bognok…in disbelief…lets go of the ring and slumps in place.
The ring rolls. Past Nastajia, Kiwi (not shown), Felicity, Alex, Paddington (also not shown), and eventually…into a familiar red foot.
Anyways. I hope you like. Tomorrow…we see who the foot is attached to (though I doubt anyone DOESN’T know the answer to that).
🙂
Â
And on a different note…
The boys start their first day of Kindergarten today.
It’s just a 2 hour introduction…but I can’t tell you how nervous I am that my 5 year old boys are going to be in Elementary School. It’s just horrifying.
The school is “easing” them in. 2 hours here.
A couple hours next week.
Every other day the week after…
Then BAM! 5 days a week from 8:30am to 3:30 pm.
CRAZY hours! I’m exhausted thinking about it.
Sigh.
Anyways. Wish us luck.
I think me more than the boys. They’re SO excited.
Â
wow… yea, lotsa luck with your kids… mine is only 4 months, and i hate to see what school will be like when he finally gets there…
oh, and the action was great, it got your point across lol..
Another new reader here. Just finished the back catalog.
Excellent art and good story telling. Thank you!
To me, the action was not clear. Starting with a wide shot just on Bognot slumping and then following the ring may have been more clear. I was wondering if the guy with the familiar red foot hit him from behind while no one was looking.
And, best of luck with the rest. 🙂
Heh, the “leaving the nest” problem. It is amazing how much work I can get done when I can “pawn off” my 3.5 year old to his grandmother. It just barely covers the time I lose the next day trying to make up for the day I “missed”.
Omigosh, I can tell that something big is about to go down.
A VERY familiar foot…(0_o)
Wow, I didn’t know the hours for kindergarten were that long! I wonder why that is…seems kinda weird for so many hours for such a young kid. (Ah, but what do I know? I was completely home-schooled.) 😀
…oh, that’s just SO not good.
Dare I say, oh …Fudge.
I didn’t get that it rolled past the rest of the cast but i assumed it rolled so the meaning was clear. I thought it was a great way to set up the next couple of strips.
(my guess Bognok has a final showdown to let Alex and the others escape)
Your action came across really well. I followed the intent perfectly.
I don’t get it how did Nicodemus even get into the mountain while it was being attacked by a bunch of critters and guarded by a few hundred dwarves? I mean they are in the heart of the mountain aren’t they. It seems like there ought to be at least some warning.
Lol.. poor you =P I hope the transition goes well w/ the boys 🙂
I didn’t get the rolling bit.. But then again, I just woke up @_@; It looked like bagnok ran away from the ring then Alex and …flecity? came to visit it… then they went away and then there’s mr. snarly face Nicodemus.
Oh, now THAT doesn’t look good for Our Heroes. After all, if a Certain Bad Person is there, that implies that the battle against the Nightmare thingies didn’t go well. (Either that or, not being clued in on the real situation, the other dwarves just let him through)
On the other hand, we now will have a terribly pissed off Dwarven King (who is the most massively towering dwarf I have ever imagined), and it’s historically been a very bad thing for ANYONE to piss off the Dwarves that badly.
Yeah, it’s nerve-wracking the first time they go off on their own. I have three kids of my own, and that first day was quite a while ago for me (the oldest is 11).
Wait…why’s he shocked NOW? (and not when he first read it?) Did he not really read it the first time?
The action came across fine for me, and all I have to say is “awww poop!”
As for kindergarten, don’t worry, they will be fine. My sons first day of Kindergarten (two years ago) we tried to follow the bus to the school, lost it, and waited in front of the building to make sure he got off okay. The wife cried her eyes out when he did, I just smiled.
hehe, yeah – did the kindergarten thing two years ago as well and the first 2 months were always a bit weird dropping my daughter off. She did great though!!
I thought that it was an bracelet, not a ring. When felicity first grabbed the thing it was huge.
Kindergarden was a great experience for my kids. It’s really a big part of developing who they are and how they will interact with their peers. The problem that we have is staying on top of the book reading. They want you to read a book a day for homework.
I uttered a `woooooh! Oops!` when I saw the last panel.
Now Nic knows where the amulet is for too….
I smell a fight coming on, dwarf vs. dragon maybe.
To me the action was clear though I didn`t think all panels were neccesary (spelling?) I must say that it slows the pacing which makes it more tense, esp. when the page ends like this, but my eyes were temped to just skip the two panels with nobody in it.
Hope that helps. 🙂
Good luck with the kindergarten thing. I`m sure they`ll be allright. 🙂
Well, I appear to be in the minority, but it was pretty clear to me what was happening.
And speaking of what is happening: Oh. Crap.
One of the milestones for every parent, Kindergarten. I know the feeling of kids leaving the nest very well, for all of my children are grown and on their own. Make the most of this time Scott, because they really do grow up too fast. On the other hand, my wife and I are supposed to be grandparents next month. Life is good, y’know?
Oh, and I thought this page was very successful. I could tell very easily what was going on.
Ut-oh….
The action was a winner. And now reintroducing… Mr. Scaly Face! 😎
Enjoy your kid’s adventure. Our youngest two are getting ready to go back to college. It works pretty much the same way from our point of view, it’s just more expensive.
“Anyways. I hope you like. Tomorrow…we see who the foot is attached to (though I doubt anyone DOESN’T know the answer to that).” –Scott/Author(?)
It’s Nicodemus’ twin brother, Barney, with whom he doesn’t get along at all (being of opposite opinions on things and all)!
(Sorry! Couldn’t help myself.)
“Wait…why’s he shocked NOW? (and not when he first read it?) Did he not really read it the first time?” –bugaboo
I’m surmising that Bognok said what he said at first, because in reality, he was afraid to find that what he believed and been doing for the past 600 years was all wrong–a lie.
no barney is purple its nicodemus’s triplet brother who is a pacifist (one who hates fighting)
no barney is purple its nicodemus’s triplet brother who is a pacifist (one who hates fighting) his name is Baloo
Barney: “I love you, you love me…”
Nicodemus: “ARRRGH! Somebody kill him! PLEEEASE!…”
Pacifist-Bro: “Now, now… Let’s just get along together. Why don’t we sing Koombaya together?”
So I guess Bognok did fall off his high horse. “What have I done ?” is probably one of the thoughts going through his mind.
However it does seem he won’t have time to admit he was wrong, though it won’t quite be for the reason I imagined :-j
I thought the action came across fine. Good page!
Your kids are going to full-day kindergarten?? I’ve never heard of that, and I’ve taught kindergarten for goodness sake! Every kid loves kindergarten though; they’ll be fine. Just remember to keep track of what’s in their backpack/homework folder! Parents who don’t do that are a teacher’s nightmare.
Man…how come I didn’t get ‘eased’ into kindergarten like that!?!
OH NOES!! D: He followed them!!
The action came across just right! I HATE/LOVE the suspence!!!
the boys will be fine… I keep telling myself the same thing, my son is going into 2nd grade but he is used to a private school with only 4 students this year he will be in public school with 20 kids….
Action comes through loud ‘n clear.
The shadows on the floor are love.
Also… crap.
WOW!!! What a ride! 723 pages in 3 days. I really need something more to do at work. ^_^ Anyways, awesome story there. Very cool stuff. I finally caught up with ya. WHEW!!! Just awesome. Good luck with everything, glad to hear your father pulled through just fine.
D’Oh! Butterfingers dwarf! Now look at whats happened!
I got the action sequence just fine. Seemed clear to me. It also makes sense to me that Nic would be there. The dwarves were told to keep back the creatures from the nightmare relmn not the Ruler of Dreamland. They don’t know he’s a traitor yet, so why would they stop him. Let’s hope Bognok can give our heros some time to get away.
in the name of “frell” thats a very familiar red foot!
red foot are acutally better than red herings i suppose 😀 😉
Now, now. Kindergarten is a big step into the world and away from family, but it is just a step. There is yet a long journey into the future to be taken. Take each step, look around, remember how things were, are and will be. Then take the next step. Like our friends journey on this quest.
To be honest I stopped paying attention after the 2nd small panel, so I didn’t even notice Staj’s, Feleicity’s and Alex’s feet when I first read this page…
But the one in the last panel is really hard to miss 😉
Hmm… This might be the intro to another fabulous action sequence, or it might be the kind of cliffhanger situation Alex tends to experice shortly before waking up…
What’s not clear to me is whether the ring rolled where it did simply because of gravity or because of a magical attraction to the usurper.
Funny, I remember only going to school for half a day all through out Kindergarten. On the other side of the spectrum my friend’s 4 year-old stayed at daycare all day and he calls it ‘school’. He won’t have any transition problems, I’m sure.
tink tink tink tink tink tink tink tink tink tink tink tink tink tink tink tink tink tink oh no!
I get what’s going on, but it seems strange. In the previous page, Bognok is facing a wall. In this page he drops the amulet and it starts moving…in the opposite direction? To the side? I thought the amulet was supposed to be attracted to that tablet, but instead it seems to be attracted to Nick.
Oh and the description for page 723 calls the trinket a ring. Yet the comic itself has always called it an amulet, and it certainly doesn’t look like a ring. Is that a typo or am I even more confused?
And ‘tink tink tink tink’ makes it seem like the amulet is bouncing instead of rolling, which makes the distance it travels seem kind of wrong. That’s just semantics, though. Either way, the point still gets across.
Oh..you guys are right. Sorry. It is an amulet and not a ring. DOH!
And the tink tink is due to me actually WANTING it bouncing. I don’t know why I said rolling.
I have to stop posting so late at night…sigh
The amulet is moving away from him because as his arm fell, it was tossed back. The magic of the amulet itself leads the wielder to the tablets…it doesn’t actually attract to it as a magnet to iron filings, I’d imagine. Scott’s been clear on the first part of that, and I’m just guessing he would have thrown the second out, if it were so.
Also, I noted the added “So it IS true.” from Nicodemus after the original posting of the page. Was the first one without that intended to create the suspense of “who could it be!?”, or just a general revision? 🙂
The heck is he doing there? Sheesh that dragon is persistent. I don’t think I’ve ever hated a character in a webcomic like I hate ol Nic…
Also a new reader here! *subscribes to RSS feed* Anywho, I laughed so much at this. I can’t wait to see more.
It reminds me of those soap opera comics though like Brenda Star with all the highlighted words…
Still though, love it!
wow. Nice development here…does this mean Nicodemus was an advisor to King Arthur?
Wow. That was…amazing. Definitely my favorite strip so far.
One Amulet to rule them all, One Amulet to find them,
One Amulet to bring them all and in the darkness… feed them to an angry dragon…
In the Halls of Hilmdel, where the Shadows lie.
That was quick Nick. ^^
Oh yeah.I can sense some SERIOUS action coming up :D.BOSS TIME!
uff.
oh F#@#!
Was the appearance of this ominous looking foot somehow symbolic of kindergarten stepping into your life at the time? Did they intentionally coincide?
Oh sh–!
And hopefully it rhymes with “snicodemus”.
Clearly the foot belongs to Paddington, wearing his dragon-slippers.
