Our heroes finally kiss, smile, cry, cheer, and think about the future — of COURSE the very next panel is full of unimaginable evil coming to REND THEIR SOULS!!
Well as was said earlier . . . mushy moment = cue attacking enemies. It was a kind gift from the author gods that it took this long to happen. (Or it was a long flight and the monsters refused to stop and ask directions toward said romantic subplot moment, either one.)
Balrogs are from Middle Earth, so it’s not exactly a game reference, more a literary reference. But games have been made based on the literary source, so it kinda works.
There are, however, also Balors, which are essentially D&D versions of Balrogs.
And how many LOTR fan D&D’ers over the years have deliberately bastardized “Balors” into “Balrogs”? Most, I suspect. Just like in our gaming world, there are no halflings; only Hobbits.
Now hold on, Fellow Dreamlanders – maybe they are the “Guardians,” and maybe they are friendly and just can’t help being so ugly. Maybe they are simply dropping in to pay their respects to Nastajia, Queen of Elves and Pirate Princess. Maybe “SKREEEEEEEE!!!” is just Hideous Gargoyle Monster-Speak for “Hello, dear Elven Lady, we bring you greetings, salutations and cupcakes. Welcome to the Friendly Skies!”
On the other hand, they could simply be Hideous Gargoyle Monsters, in which case it’s time for Alex to make with the stabby and hacky.
Ladies and gentlemen, please bring your seats and tray tables to the fully upright position and fasten your seatbelts. The captain says we are in for a little turbulence….
Somehow, the first thing I though of when I saw the first panel was “Did Paddington move too far to the side?” 😀
And seems like Felicity isn’t the only one lacking in sublty…
Monsters: “Let’s attack from above so they won’t notice us, that is, untill we unleash our battle cry”
Don’t you mean the other way ’round? no hobbits only halflings?
@aps: he’s referencing an MMO in which an event like this can occur while traveling by sky ship.
Five minutes earlier:
“Should we attack their boat now?”
“No, I want to see where this goes.”
“Nick told us to kill them.”
“Yes, but if we break their ship now, it’ll also ruin my ship!”

Well as was said earlier . . . mushy moment = cue attacking enemies. It was a kind gift from the author gods that it took this long to happen. (Or it was a long flight and the monsters refused to stop and ask directions toward said romantic subplot moment, either one.)

Why does this remind me so vividly of my real life? WHY???
Nothing like a horde of monsters coming to kill you to ruin a moment.
“rats with wings”
Called it!
and THIS is where he wakes up 😀
This reminds you vividly of your life?
I want to party with *you,* CW.

Metaphorical pigeons!
Who cares what they are?! KILL IT WITH FIRE!
Now would be a good time to do a Bleach maneuver with the sword and wipe out the demons in the sky with a special sword technique!

Well this certainly came as a surprise!

Ah, good.
A distraction from the thief’s jealousy,
lets focus on this, shall we?
