Heh. I like your end comment, Scott.
The only way Alex can avoid class in Dreamland is by taking class on Earth! There’s just no way for that boy to win, is there? 🙂
And here Alex thought he’d figured it all out. Well, he’s in college to learn and study; might as well do the same in Dreamland. Dunno what he’ll get out of the RL studying, but the Dreamland studying will get him points with Naj. Win!
I’m placing my bets that all won’t go well as Alex is plunged back into adventure and learning on the job.
Though I did enjoy Orion’s training.
Though I still wonder if Orion would have regretted it and thought he’d rushed things if Alex had instead fallen to his death.
Don’t worry, Alex! The power of Montage will save US the agony of YOUR weeks!
*Sings montage song from Team America.*
“We’re gonna do a montage (montage!)” That just reminded me of that scene from South Park where the boys went up to Aspen… now it would be funny if it worked that way.
Next scene: Alex talks to his bro, and is all like… “I really hate centaurs. Really.”
Perhaps some Nicole-Felicity action too… Hmm.
RL study will help to:
1) Learn how to study and
2) May come in useful itself (especially if it’s psychology, politics, etc).
There is always that danger as the villain wouldn’t have stopped his plans to give Alex time to learn.
Nuts.

lol!
“There is much more training ahead for you, and several blows to the head to get you to stop using expressions like ‘man up’ and ‘happy place’.” Hooray, I’ve finally made it through the archives – how people manage it in a day amazes me. Congratulations, Scott, and here’s to the final 1000ish pages 🙂
Hi there, just stumbled upon your comic. I just wanted to say thankyou. It is so beautiful. My two small boys love the colours, the characters Kiwi and Paddington in particular, and the way your site goes from night to day. Keep up the lovely work! (oh and by the way, the “how to navigate” at the beginning was perfect for a gumby like me).
Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnaaaaaahhhhhh.
Alex will leave all that bookworm and practical learning stuff to his brother. Alex has much more important things to study, like, uh.. . . .studying what to study! Yeah, that’s going to take forever to figure out! It’s really important to choose the right major, you know!
LOL
I like your “Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnaaaaaahhhhhh.” 😀
question though: if he becomes the king of dreamland, wouldn’t that mean he’d be there permanently? and dan being in the real world… that would make the communication a bit hard, no? 😉
(so he’d better shape up in the intelligence department. though I’m sure he’s smart, just too lazy to actually THINK. haha.)
you know, alex… I would treat that training as an experiment – see if what you learn in dreamland carries over to the real world (sword skills and the like). just don’t try the flying there. 😉
I wonder if that’d be motivation enough to make him more eager about it. 😀
But wait! There’s more!
If you call now you’ll get not one, not two, but three..! *gets shot*
Ok I’ll stop now XD
Sadly know one seems to take the dart approach seriously. Print out every major at your college, get a dart, throw at the majors and see which one you hit. Try the one you hit, if you don’t like it, pull it from the target area, repeat. It works wonders for stress as well!
I would not doubt that for a second. That being said, don’t expect much. Scott is trying to keep this a relatively G rated comic after all. I am not expecting any T&A to ever make it in to this comic. Oh well.
Well, now that we know we are temporarily spared the training montage, I all of a sudden find my self with to much good training montage music. Its going to be nice to see Nicole and Dan again though. So I guess it works out.
*reloading* Three what?
I couldn’t resist joining in with the gag, hope you don’t mind.
So, how many more cliffs is Orion going to have to drop Alex off of to teach him new skills? 😉
Seriously though, depending on what Alex learns, it’s one of the other things that he can bring back from Dreamland: new skills and knowledge. That too would give Nicole something to study.
Poor Alex – at least he doesn’t have to worry about a dragon taking away his college scholarship!
well remember that orion’s people used to communicated to people in teh real world through that thing Dan received
so close to that one thousand mark, eh Scott? today’s page made me lmaonade =P
@ansley: (would have replied directly to you, but there’s no reply link… hmmm)
yes, there’s that way of communication, but that needs someone to be the messenger. someone who wakes up in the real world. usually, that someone would be a kid and in my opinion it’d be a tad irresponsible to have a kid do that. could be dangerous after all, if they needed dan’s help.
then again, maybe there’ll be no problem at all, if alex doesn’t end up in the dreamworld permanently. although that does sound like the only practical solution.
I should stop thinking too hard about this. 😀
When he wakes up tomorrow, will the bag automatically return with him or will he have to be holding it in order for it to come back to Earth with him.
I also wonder if Orion meant Earth or Dreamland weeks (time seems to flow differently in each)
A pretty snappy closing line. Nice finish to this thread of plot.
I have a friend who did something similar, but in reverse:
She read the detailed descriptions of all the majors her college offered, then chose something like 15 or 16 of them that she thought she could live with.
Next she put those on the dart board and started throwing darts until only one DIDN’T have a dart hole in it… That was the major she went for.
She ended up loving it, and now holds a Masters in that field as a marine microbiologist (or something like that). She’s happy taking trips all over the world to do her “research” too!
I was teasing her about her “scientific method” for choosing a major and she said, “It’s an off-branch of Murphy’s Law. This one states that if you have a finite list of things to search thru, the chances are best that you’ll find what you seek as the very last option.”
Of course I continued saying, “Isn’t that like saying, ‘Why are my keys always in the last place I look?’ ”
When she caught her breath after laughing at me (with some explaining that she was really laughing with me – tho I wasn’t sure what the joke was yet) she answered with a question, “If you are searching for your keys, would you continue looking after you had found them, or settle for finding them in -what is then- the ‘last place you look’?”
I felt like such a smart feller that day!
Cheers! ^.^
~Prince Demitri
Look on the bright side, Alex. You should be quite a force to be reckoned with when you’re done.
^.^
Good Morning…and thanks all!
Thanks Aquila Audax!
I really appreciate you commenting. And so glad the intro worked.
🙂
I have no idea how the rest of our readers do it daily either.
But I love them for it.
🙂
Thank you and welcome!
🙂
Thanks!
Yeah, I like the way this scene closes, as well. It’ll be a nice transition back to the world of the awake.
But…where is the fifth panel? I tried refreshing the page but it didn’t appear, where is the panel where Orion replies “Okay son, if you feel that way we can skip the training. Hopefully Nicodemeous will at least feel nauseous when he scrapes you out from between his toes.” ?
Demitri, by your friend’s logic, her perfect man for her will be the one she meets at age 98 when they are both in hospice care!
I don’t know if she sounds like a perfect date anyway. I’m sure I’d have lots of dart holes in me by the time I got home. 🙂
Alex had better watch it! The last time he showed this little enthusiasm about classes in Dreamland, he got dropped off of a cliff!
Where is paddington by the way? He’s a favorite of my son’s. 🙂
whew… that was exciting! I bet Alex will be exhausted when he wakes… hehe. Does he get a good night’s sleep always going to Dreamland? I could imagine Nicole studying this. Hehe.
Well Axe, it’s better than the FOUR YEARS in college. “nuts” he he ^^. Soon it will be training montage time XD.
“Alex” doh!
He’s around. We’ll be seeing much more of him in the next couple chapters.
By that same logic, the last place you expect to find a bath room when you need one, will have a bathroom. Its going to be really weird thinking about that for a while. Also, why is it a problem to find your keys in the last place you look, assuming you look at things in a normal sequential order? It seems perfectly reasonable to me to stop looking once you find them. Unless you suffer from OCD I doubt many other people would disagree with my method of stopping after you find the keys.
Guaranteed Nicodemius is trying to figure out where Alex is. And failing horribly at it. Maybe because he doesn’t expect them to go to the centaurs? Any way, this is bound to generate more discussion.
We don’t read the comments and either work from home, or we can read the comics at work. In my case its working from home (thank you good planning and smart spending habits of my youth!). I am hoping Scott spares us from watching Alex get thrown from the cliff for several pages, again, or some thing similar to it for his next few weeks of training. (hint, hint, nudge, nudge!)
I am going to guess he has been trying to teach the centaurs to dance, again. Despite the first failures with stretching. I foresee bad things for the young centaurs…
XD
I don’t think he will be bringing many skills in to the real world… Prime example, do young kids go flying around town in the real world? Same things will apply to Alex from what we have so far seen. No flying around his campus or doing any thing similar. He is grounded until he goes back to sleep.
Good questions. Hopefully the next few pages answer them both. If its Earth weeks, Alex is going to be dreading it, Dreamland weeks and he might try to fit a week in to each night. Either way, he is going to be in Dreamland for a while just training.
Orion and every one else hopes. Only time will tell if he actually does. There went what there was of Alex’s chances getting Nastajia in even less than what she is in now. Late Parental Warning: Adult Themes/Concepts Implied in comment. I should have put that in at the beginning, shouldn’t I?
I think that we have confirmed that he does in fact get a good nights sleep even when falling in Dreamland. One case of this is Nicodemius’ tower escape. But that was before he learned to fly, so it may be different now… Hmm… It would be interesting to see if he is tired when he gets back to the “waking world.”
Once I didn’t find something in the last place I looked. I needed a tool in the printshop, but after looking everywhere I could not find it. About a month later, I pulled open a drawer for another tool, and there it was…
Lol funny thought/ personal experience what if you have multiple sets of the same keys. You find a couple sets but others are still missing. I’m always looking for sets of Bar keys that my bartenders took home instead of putting them away.
hehe don’t mind me XD those home shopping networks have pretty much numbed our brains lol
I keep thinking of Shane Rangi playing Orion….. I didn’t realise uintil today, but he’s been in my mind since Orion’s introduction…. ^^
I like Alex’ responses to Orion and Orion’s responces to Alex in this page ^^ (And in the previous page as well)
Orion: “Remember all that math and history that you thought you never would use in the real world? Well you’re right. You don’t use it in the real world. Dreamland, on the other hand…”
Alex: “Nuts.”
Orion: “Now, take off your armor and strip down to your underwear.”
Alex: “Wait, what?”
Orion: “Based on what we’ve observed, it’s the standard educational practice for older humans in dreams. They have to be in the classroom in their underwear. Especially for exams. We don’t know why, but that’s just how it is.”
Sword skills might carry over… We don’t know if Alex’s strength is consistent in both worlds, though, so he’ll have the mental knowledge of the techniques, but not the strength.
[By the way, is anyone else expecting a Agent Smith-esque possession of Alex’s bro [I forget the name]? Eventually, Nicodemus will be all like RARR POSSESS.]

😀
Wham bam thank you, maÂ’am, my qutesoins are answered!
