Page 911…
Hi Everyone!
I’m back from Chicago and the ALA show. It was great.
I got to meet the great people from http://www.unshelved.com/ who were right next to us.
I also got to see Andy Runton (Owly) and of course hang out at the IDW booth.
Chicago is a nice city. Very “artsy”.
The pizza wasn’t to my liking (give me a NY Sicilian thick crust any day). But overall we had good food.
The Indiana police, though, I don’t like.
They literally sat on the border of Kentucky/Indiana and pulled over the whole left lane. STOOD in the middle of traffic and pulled us all over.
They set up a speed trap (70mph speed limit in Kentucky….55mph once you cross over). And just stood there pulling EVERYONE over and giving us $170 tickets.
So I’m not happy with them.
On the way home…I remembered the spot…and sure enough…there they were. It’s like Printing Money I guess for them.
Ugh.
On to brighter things.
It is exactly ONE week until San Diego Comic Con!
I have SO many things to bring. I kind of want to run it all by you.
So here goes…
The Dreamland Chronicles Book One
The Dreamland Chronicles Book Two
The Dreamland Chronicles Book Three (SD COMIC CON PREMIERE)
Paddington Rumblebottom III Plush (SD COMIC CON PREMIERE)
Kiwi Figure
Nastajia Figure
Alexander Figure (SD COMIC CON PREMIERE)
Felicity Figure (SD COMIC CON PREMIERE)
10 different Trading/Sketch Cards (SD COMIC CON PREMIERE)
The Dreamland Chronicles Poster (SD COMIC CON PREMIERE)
Kids Graphic Novel Poster (SD COMIC CON PREMIERE)
Pet Robots
Ed’s Terrestrials
Hyperactive (SD COMIC CON PREMIERE)
My Grandparents are Secret Agents (SD COMIC CON PREMIERE)
Gary the Pirate (SD COMIC CON PREMIERE)
Cameron and his Dinosaurs (SD COMIC CON PREMIERE)
Whew…
So I had a thought…
For the Trading Cards. I would do the following two options.
1) Sell them 2 at a time. There are 5 days. So 2 a day each day.
2) Give out a complete set with any purchase of $40 (essentially 2 books or a book and a plush).
Does that sound fair?
I’ve still not found a good way to get these to the rest of you. But I’m working on that.
Please let me know your thoughts. And I’m really looking forward to seeing you guys there.
Thanks
Scott
Jump-start your morning with Orion’s staff!!!
Heh, Orion is indeed good. 😉
Love Nastaija and Orion’s expressions especially.
bummed – I didn’t buy tickets to comic con in time and now all sold out. 🙁 – hope the show is success for you.
Heh. Alex’ s reaction is just classic. I’m actually eager to see what happens in the Waking World now, though I’ll miss Nastajia’s pretty face.
This page made me giggle. xD
Oi, he is good.
hehe, that’s one smug smile at Orions face in the last panel. *gg* Hilarious.
I`m officially excited now!! I can`t wait to see Dan`s reaction…
Nastajia`s face in the last 2 panels are really good too
Have fun at the con Scott!
I believe your experience with the Indiana Police is a brush with “Hoosier Initiative”, but it may be an extreme case.
Fun comic. Let’s hope that Orion can get Alexander in line here soon.
One thought: When Alex’s sword goes to the “real world” it is shrunk super-small. What about the bag? It’s pretty small already, what if it got super-sized?
So did Orion cause Alex to wake up, or did he just know when it would happen?
that was funny 🙂
Heh, reminds me of the interactions between Ichigo Kurosaki and Rukia Kuchiki… bet Alex wanted to spend a little more time in Dreamland with Stajia before waking up(and liking the current look better than the previous one!) but, if he has to get an answer, he has to get an answer(bummer for him, though).
As far as the cards, offer them in the online store as a bonus when you buy a certain amount of stuff like books, plushies, or statues(like the one where you get the statue and the book with the cards included).
he’s goooooood
Orion is real good… But Scott is even better ^_^
XD / roflmto
That’s a good way to wake up in the morning – laughing!
I’d like to see the cards offered separately for those of use who already have all three books *and* all the figures…
Thanks all!
I don’t control the store anymore (for those of you who haven’t clicked the STORE link recently).
IDW does. So if I were to send the cards to them…they wouldn’t be sketched on.
Is that an issue?
Or…I can put them up on a seperate store if you’d like.
As for Orion…
He simply knew it was time. No magic staff.
🙂
Yeah, welcome to Indiana, where the police seem to concentrate more on speeders on empty stretches of Interstate than on the REAL criminals in the cities (granted, we’re talking State Troopers vs. City/County Police, but still…)
One tidbit I learned talking to a co-worker is that no police officer does traffic unless they REQUEST it. So all those jerk cops pulling people over aren’t jerks because they’re bitter at their assignment; they’re just jerks.
Great chapter Scott, as per usual. I love Alex’s reaction. Poor guy probablly wanted to spend more time with Nastajia 🙂
I guess I’ll have to stop by during Comic Con.
I actually started reading this comic pretty early on and then forgot about it for the longest time. I remembered it recently and caught up, glad I did.
I giggle.
I also love Nastajia + Orion’s expressions =) Whee! Orion smiled!
Can’t wait to see Dan + Nicole’s reaction! ^__^
Oh that was HILARIOUS! Will you be offering the same deal at the NY Comic Con? I’m on the wrong coast for San Diego.
Bah. You don’t like Chicago pizza? It’s wasted on you. Send your share to me. They don’t know how to make pizza in Philadelphia, it’s all bread with stuff on it.
Whose did you get? You have to go to the right place. Uncle Pete’s in Naperville is some of the best. They have a stuffed deep-dish pizza that’s got to be eaten to be believed. A large is about 8 pounds. Don’t bother with Lou Malnotti’s. And Uno’s is only good if you go to the original place in the city, or Due’s. Gino’s East on Superior St. is good too.
Try an Italian Beef Combo sandwich. You will like it.
So much ground to cover.
First, for those of you not following Scott on Twitter, you missed seeing the cute puppy face. I’m not much for cute, but one glimpse and I attempted to hand my sandwich to it. Helpless to resist the cute, rare but it happens.
Ah, Chicago. Love that place, especially wasting a day sitting at a sidewalk cafe near the watertower listening to the sidewalk performers play. Turns out they were in the symphony on their day off. Outstanding. And love that pizza too. Of course, eating a slice while gawking in NY was great too. Guess I just like pizza.
Third, the comic. (there’s a comic? oh yeah…) Awesome page today, cracked me up. I can hear him saying it, because I had to read that part out loud.
Hey, Vote! 😉
I’m sorry. I live in Louisville, on the Indiana/Kentucky border. I know what you mean though.
I like the facial expressions on this page, as well. Now if Alex could figure the time like Orion, waking up would never be a surprise.
I hate speed traps! There oughtta beya law…
I loved this page! I really like Orion’s smile.
“Oh you’re GOOD”
that made my day ^_^
Seperate store for Cards would be AWESOME!!
Speed traps like that are probably Unconstitutional … but more importantly they are UnAmerican! … Especially if you are driving a nice sweet Mulsce Car like the Challenger!!!
I hope he can get back into DreamLand without the sword. Or did Orion get it back to him a few pages ago and I just didn’t notice?
Kitsune13…
That’s where they were. Right on the other side of that bridge. Ugh.
Next time I’ll honk to say hi to you on the way through.
🙂
now you know the pain of those who actually live in Indiana 🙁
This is going to be interesting… Last we saw of the waking world, Dan has gone out with Nicole, and now what with Orion wanting Dan to respond to some message of dubious authenticity (to the external observer anyway) via some crazy device that will send the rationalist in Nicole into fits, and the whole Felicity-Nicole connection that Alex still hasn’t learnt about, I anticipate some very interesting twists coming up!
Lurker: Well, it would make for one interesting test, though – check the contents of the purse when Alex falls asleep, videotape him sleeping to prove nobody’s messing with the purse, and check it again after waking. If the purse works, there’s something beyond scientific explanation going on.
Scott: Love the expressions, but it’s a bit weird that Nastajia doesn’t move her hands at all, even though she’s surprised.
This kind of thing couldn’t happen in CA. The sheer number of people on the freeway would ensure that traffic going on the bridge was at a dead stop due to the volume of stopped cars.
While a bit underhanded, speed traps are there for a reason, to catch people braking the rules. It constantly amazes me how everyone thinks that the rules shouldn’t apply to them. When 86 die in a freeway pileup everyone is so quick to ask why the driver didn’t slow down, but the second we start pulling people over for driving unsafely, the cops are just money grubbing. IF they were money grubbing, the speed limit would be 49 miles per hour. Then it’s a Misdemeanor and not an infraction, and you can triple the fines.
I chuckled at this page.
I’ll bet that those two started laughing a moment after. (lightly though, else it’s out of character)
Another good Chicagoland Pizza place: Aurelio’s.
Nastajia looks surprised, then wondering about Orion, then smug in the last panel.
What if you slow to 55 before you reach the border? The people behind you wont like it, but I don’t see how they can legally ticket you if you were at their speed limit from the moment you hit the line.
I’m so excited to see what happens when he wakes up!
He’ll probably remember his stomachache from eating all that candy before falling asleep and thus reinforce his desire to mature.
David, that’s fine, if you know about the trap. It’s the ones you don’t know about that get you. And, of course, people may get irritated if you aren’t going the speed limit, but in most cases it’s an upper limit, not a lower one…
“Now…you wake up.” *lol* XDD
(For some reason, this page just made me giggle.) ^_^
Nobody going to make a joke about wood and waking up? OK, then I won’t 😉
Alex has disconnected from Dreamland.
This page seriously cracked me up good! XD
*Paul Vitti speech*
“You!You ‘re good you!!
No no no you ‘re good…”
Indiana won’t last forever, don’t worry. Chicago and Ohio are working out a deal to split it between them. The only disagreement is who gets stuck with the Colts.
Mr. Sava, is there any chance we’ll see Nastajia in her centaur dress again before the story is over? Because she looks really good in it.
