Page 867…
I FOUND MY HAPPY PLACE!
I never wanted to move that tablet. I knew there was a reason why I was in no hurry to get to that tablet….
And I remembered that we left Nicodemus neck deep in Dwarves! No one knows if he made it out alive or not.
This was (I guess subconciously) my thinking when I wrote this. But once I saw the comments…I couldn’t help over thinking it.
Now…I think the re-writes improve this for everyone. So thank you all.
Please go back and RE-READ the previous page. I changed the dialog of the last two panels.
Now…I HOPE…it works well.
🙂
Thanks guys for the support. Let me know your thoughts.

OH…and good news!
KUKUBURI IS UPDATING AGAIN!
Â
Go read it….and say hi to Ramon! Wonderful stuff!
Â
Other than that…
For those of you who aren’t yet following me on twitter…
…both our boys have Strep throat right now. But surprisingly…they’re doing really good.
They got to stay home and play toys, watch Wow Wow Wubzy, and play some Lego Star Wars with Daddy.
So it’s not all bad.
Â
Hopefully the antibiotics will speed the healing up.
Â
We’re doing good otherwise and can’t wait to get back to a 5 day a week schedule next week.
But for now…see you guys on Friday.
Â
Thanks
Scott

NICE!! That does indeed solve everything, but Nick made it out alive, right? Right? He’s too wonderful of a villian to die so easily! (I want Alex to slay him by the end.) But I can see him hiding out somewhere, recovering from his injuries, giving Alex plenty (but not too-too much) of time to learn to fly and train.
Oh poor Alex … look how stricken he’s a-lookin’ forth in to that twisted future lying ahead. I reckon he’s gonna survive it, eh?
Oh, you can bet that Nick is lickin’ his wounds and trying to make sense of that sudden dwarf ambush *lol* Got his arse handed back big time, that dragon. ‘t was ’bout time for a severe beating, I daresay. ^^If that ain’ smell like a foreshadowing I dunno.
Dragonburgers! Tastes just like chicken.
Seriously though, Nick probably won’t take too long to catch up. He’s REALLY reluctant to let Alexander take the throne for some reason.
Metastory-wise, we all know that scaly b**t**d made it out alive, probably killing most if not all of the poor dwarves in the bargain.
In-story, though, or — for me — in-game, viewing it as an RPG scenario, Nicky was in for a WORLD of hurt and I would not have given much for his chances of survival. If he’s strong enough to take on the entire kingdom of Dwarves, IN THEIR OWN FORTRESS, BY HIMSELF, one has to wonder why the hell he NEEDS help from the Nightmare Realm.
KUDOS ON the pages its great
Much better. I think I see where this is going. Nice job, Scott!
That does work much better! although we do know Nick will make it out alive 😉 but for the time being, he is involved in a full scale war with the Dwarves and I am sure it won’t be long for the Elves and the Mer-people to join in. since we’ve read there tablets already and know of Nick’s deeds. Oh and the Centaurs too. Of course the other races must be watching and from their prospective must be wondering why the king of Dreamland would EVER use nightmare beast to fight his war!!!
Yeah that works nicely. Alex has to do it on his own in order for the tablet to fully reveal its secrets to him.
Is it just me or does Alex’s hair look shiny and sort of “plastic” in panels 2-5? The way the light is reflecting off his hair is giving it that sort of look.
Tied the loose ends up very nicely, Scott. ‘Course, I knew you would.
Yeah, ol’ Nic survived I’m sure, and is filled with a terrible resolve…
Yes, great page. And I can’t say one way or the other about those last panels… It strikes me as him deflecting the question. But then, with this page we see they didn’t concern themselves with the thing anyway. *shrug*
Oh, and Lego Star Wars FTW. ‘Nuff said
Story and graphics is outstanding. Unlike others, I have no idea where this is going and that’s GREAT! I’m curious to see how Alex will learn to fly and if Nicole will ever see Felicity again.
Since the tablets on the previous locations were stuck in a wall, I assumed they needed to GO TO that tablet instead of someone fetching it. And to me it was also logical that it`s about time Alex remembered how to fly. 🙂 But now it makes even more sense.
I can`t help feeling that the plot thickens, Alex can`t just run around being the easy going, sometimes a bit dorky, hero anymore….I think he feels it too. esp. with the new dialogue on the previous page.
He doesn`t really seem to know what to think of this thing people expect from him.
Finally made it through the archives since page 1…what a great trip! I’m really looking forward to keeping up with this story.
Makes sense, looks good! 🙂
Thanks all!
And welcome SiegfreidZ
What? You rewrote the last two panels? Nooo, now I gotta start all over at the beginning again!
Thanks. Thanks a lot.
Yep, makes much more sense this way. When you think of it from a story perspective, the main villain never dies unless one of the protagonists does it, so I don’t think it occurred to most people that logically… Nico’s outmanned and nearly matched by one of the dwarves alone. The odds of him escaping in any condition for pursuit are negligible, not to mention the dwarves have now declared open war on him, hours after he did the same to the elves.
He’ll be busy, if he’s got any sense of priority.
Nic is going to have his claws full to say the least. I almost feel sorry for him… Nope feeling of pity is gone
Umm… if he doesn’t know what’s written on it, how does he know that it will reveal all that stuff to Alex? Or does he just have a general idea but didn’t care to know more?
Sure, it would be cool if Alex relearned how to fly, but practically speaking, why couldn’t Kiwi fly Alex over? Once there, Alex could slide the tablet to the adjoining cliff on a rope, or just lower it to the ground. Just sayin’ ….
I don’t really like that “my people do not wish to dwell on the politics of the past” line. Based on what the other tablets contained and how the other races regarded their tablets, it seems like those are very much a part of their heritage and history. I would have thought the Centaurs to recognize and value that. That politics line really seems to demean the tablets down to the level of political news articles in our day, IMHO. It sounds like the Centaurs are too good to look at them.
A couple thoughts on the last panel… I doubt that any reader would think it possible that Nicodemus is dead. As they were running away, I was thinking, “oh crap, now all the dwarves are going to die.” Then somebody addressed that in a way that didn’t quite make sense to me. Anyways, my point is that Nicodemus’ arrival is inevitable, and most readers probably can see that, especially with the way the dialogue was before the most recent change. Besides that, for us, they left Hilmdel a few months ago. For the next readers, it was 15 minutes ago (guesstimating that).
I also liked how it used to say that Alex needed to learn to fly to get to the tablet, and to do so before Nicodemus got there (which was implied by talking about Nicodemus).
One more thing… someone mentioned Alex needing to learn to fly so that he can take Orion over there to read it. That’s what I was thinking originally. I don’t think a “team” is necessary – just Alex, Orion, and Nastajia. As for why can’t Kiwi fly people over – first, is she actually strong enough to carry a Centaur in flight? (I don’t want to re-read the whole comic right now to see if she carries anyone.) Even if she can, Orion could refuse on the grounds that this is something Alex needs to learn, and that for Kiwi to help would hinder Alex down the road.
That 15 minutes thing I wrote bugged me, so I decided to see how many pages ago it was. It was about 100 pages ago, so that’s probably long enough to forget about Hilmdel.
David C, I didn’t catch that until you pointed it out, but I kind of agree with you on Orion’s comment. On one hand, it seem like a very arrogant, nonchalance and apathetic statement for Orion to make. Oh the other hand, Centaurs by myth are very knowledgeable creatures and he does know ABOUT the tablet if not the exact text. he probably knows that Dreamland used to be ruled by human kings (and thus Nick is not the true King of DL). He is aware (from the sword) that there is a war coming. I believe that he knows Alex it the true King of DL and he feels a great responsibility to prepare Alex and that is forefront on his mind.
Scott, I think the idea of the statement works, but the wording could be a bit more present focused rather than ignoring the past. something like “No Alex, but we are most concerned with the future”
Hey, I recently found a webcomic that’s been running since June 2000 with a 5-day-a-week update rate. It’s STILL going on at that pace. Thought you should give it a read, Scott. It’s called “The Wandering Ones”. I think you’ll like it.
I love your comic.. Quick thought. You should put a previous button at the top of the comic instead of the bottom.. I always am like 2 behind and end up ruining things because I have to scroll over all the new strips to get to the old ones. D:
Not that my opinion matters, but having Alex relearning how throw himself at the ground and miss is perfect and apropos. Plus, ‘minds me of when Dream and Delirium were looking for their brother in the Greek isles – some things you ned to do yourself.
I agree with Risa
I prefer the rewrite. It makes it flow more evenly now and makes more sense.
i can’t wait tell Alex finds out his role in the war
That centaur guy is awesome. If he were real and a human, I’d want him to be my uncle.
Cannon fodder.
