Page 803…
Ugh…
Can you believe it? We’re still sick!
I’ve still got another day of antibiotics and Donna has another couple days.
Boy this year hit us hard. It’s all the kids fault of course…ha ha.
But darn that petri dish they call Kindergarden!
Anyways. I hope today’s page came across OK.
Nicole is frustrated. She’s running through a range of emotions.
I think you’ll find this week full of little things like this.
i’m still doing what i can to catch up with all of the emails as well as staying ahead of pages.
So my apologies if you emailed me recently and I haven’t replied. I’ll get to you…I promise.
Hope you all enjoy this last day of 2008.
Thanks for spending it with me….
See you in the new year tomorrow.
Scott
First, I wish you well and an end to illness! Next, I think Nicole’s transition from anger to collapse might do better to have her start her crumple into despair in the third panel rather than go from fully upright to face down on the table in one.
Yeah Scott… the first years of school are rough… I remember being sick quite a bit my kids’ first year as well. Also, interesting… I think Nicole’s finally starting to break down. She’s having trouble with her “perfect world” collapsing around her.
Scott, if you want to try and build your immune system, and that of your family, have everyone take zinc daily. My dad had us take when we started to get sick, and any time we traveled. It works. It kept me from getting ill the entire fall semester.
Scott, you worry too much. 😛 Focus on getting well and helping Donna get well, then you can fall over yourself apologizing for not responding to e-mails in lieu of creating wonderful comics for us to devour. And yes, zinc. I swear by those things.
Ah yes, the joys of school. The kids go and they learn, socialize, and bring home all kinds of things, including every germ and virus known to man. 🙂
Good luck, get well, and thank you for an amazing comic.
i’ve never been sick so i can’t say for sure what that feels like.. but it must be wonderful! XD lol… just kidding… but yes. do take the zinc. it does help, not that i take any… XD… and just don’t over do it on everything. you have to remember to smell roses once in awhile, even when travelling down the highway at eighty miles per… XD!
I second the motion. Zinc and tons of vitamin C (drink OJ & take vitamin pills) will help you out tremendously. Try taking tylenol before bed, it will relax you and grant you the best sleep.
Also, I don’t think that Nicole’s transition from upright to prone should happen any differently. 🙂 The quick motion of hiding her face on the desk is somewhat childish and expressive of the inner conflict occuring.
Get well soon so you can enjoy the new year 🙂
BWAHAHAHA, that was funny with Nicole! I think those kinds of moments are just hilarious.
you have illustrated schopenhauer’s quote: All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.
I can’t see anything wrong with the way you draw this comic. 🙂 I look forward to it every morning, early early AM on graveyard shift. Hope you feel better soon, and thank you for the great story!
And to think all the issues with getting her to believe them.. all that needs to be done is ask Felicity about all the fun times she had with Nicole as kids then come back and give her a nice long recap of her past dreams. That’ll fix all these issues 😛
Two words. FLU SHOT. I got mine this year. Back in October. I haven’t been even the slightest bit sick so for *knocks on wood*
The only problem I see with Nicole’s sudden emotional ‘catastrophe’ (in the sense of a discontinuous reaction) is that it has to be explained, by either a build-up or a sequel, or both. This means that the next couple of pages will have to give us a look at the conflicts she’s feeling and the aftershocks of this collapse. Or else leave us with a mystery to be explained.
I don’t know but i think you are all too hard on Scott. The third panel is quite good. The eybrows drop, she lower lip droops. The chin is lower, head starting to tilt. Pointing arm is less stiff changing the hand angle, the finger bends no longer point directly at the ’cause of her pain’. She is clearly falling from grace. She is starting to lose her focus. Every thing points to the impending fall. I think it is very good, but what the hell do I know?
LOL! That whole page is hilarious…I love it…she finally crumbles! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA…
Just accept it Nicole! ah ha ha. Love this page! It’s about time! 🙂
Good thing Daniel is there to comfort her. 😉
I’ll admit, sometimes it takes me a second read to really get everything that’s going on in the panels, but not this time. I could definitely see Nicole’s inability to find a logical argument and her despair about it in her body language in Panel 3. Makes me look forward to the next update.
I add my best wishes as well!! Sinus infections can be terribly hard to get rid of.
While it’s a pain now, just remember that the more things they are exposed to now, the fewer illnesses they will get in Middle and High school.
And I do agree with the zinc thing, especially for colds. There are awesome drops called “Coldeez”. I love them, but there is a slight metallic flavor to them, so if the kids don’t like them you can always add them to tea and cover the flavor with honey.
Good morning all…
Thanks for the well wishes and advice on Zinc and Vitamin C.
We did get flu shots. All of us. SO I know it’s not a flu.
I know I don’t take vitamins…and I should. So maybe I’ll try getting back into that.
Glad you like today’s page too. Thank you guys and hope you have a wonderful New Year’s Eve.
Scott
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Thanks for spending it with me”? Scott, thanks for being so dedicated to your story and readers that you still update on New Year’s Eve while sporting … well if it’s not a flu, who knows!
That said, take it easy, enjoy your family, and have a wonderful countdown to 2009!
It could still be the flu. Flu shots aren’t 100% and only protect against the strains that “they” expect will hit badly. However, it can also be diagnosed with a doctor’s visit. I know people who only ever get the flu when they get the shot.
Get better, and don’t distress yourself! We love your comic but knowing you’re making yourself miserable to get it up on time is sad.
The first panel made me jump back in my seat a little bit, lol. Completely unexpected. Nick or his minions must have done something to her, I don’t think Nicole would be so determined to block 100% happy memories of hanging out with Felicity in her dreams.
Happy New Year, Scott and family, and take your vitamins so you can kick whatever you have. For once I won’t feel so guilty waiting up to see the next page.
You all got the flu shot?? Do you know what’s in the flu shot? I would bet everything I own that you’re defenses are down as a result of the flu shot, Scott. One of the nastiest (and pointless) things ever created (right up there with chlorine).
Keep up the great work, and stay away from flu shots!
Nicole seems to be showing the first signs of a psychotic breakdown.
also flu shots are preventive, if you already have the flu they are kinda pointless. a flu shot is simply weak or dead versions of the disease, which allows your body to react and develop immune cells for that specific strain under safe conditions.
Unless you are takeing anti-biotics, which due to decades of mis-use arn’t as effective as they used to be as many diseases have developed to be resistant to them (people would only take them till symptoms stopped, but the disease was still present).
it’s kindergarten, not garden
Poor Nicole, too exhausted to fight anymore. I hate that feeling. Wonderful page, Scott. I feel her pain…
Now then, you and your family have been sick toooo long, Scott. GET WELL, DAGGNABBIT!
Seriously, feel better soon. k?
The flu is a virus. one of several related viruses.
Colds are from bacteria.
Given that you were given antibiotics, I’m guessing that your doctor ascertained that you had a bacterial infection – not the flu. So the flu shot likely helped against any flus that are going around, but it can’t help with the colds. sorry 🙁
I won’t re-post the whole thing – but DUDE. really nasal irrigation HELPS, it really really does. with sinus stuff anyway.
This is page is fantastic! I love how Nicole is slowly breaking down 🙂
I really should try nasal irrigation but….it’s NASAL IRRIGATION! How nasty is that??
My cousin made me promise to give it a try….I guess I will….
and now she returns to dreamland!
Another great page. ^^
Hope you guys feel better soon -it’s summer where I live (yay Southern Hemisphere!) but I’ve had a bit of a cold too. Hope you pick up soon; really not nice feeling all flu-y.
Here I am.
Now let me salut all of you: Hi all!
scott, it is pretty nasty – my sister is a nurse, and so you KNOW the kind of stuff she has to deal with and even she thinks nasal irrigation is gross.
if you decide to give it a go and have any questions, feel free to ask me, though it sounds like you’ve got a closer support network for it.
I have to disagree with J Wilde – much more realistic to have her have a sudden realization and attempt to stay strong and firm for a few seconds, then crumple entirely.
This might be pushing it a little…
… But you know that all synapses in the body travel by Sodium / Potassium ion differentials?
That is to say there is, in a manner of speaking, a VERY weak electric charge travelling along those cells.
But more importantly… changes in electric current cause equivalent changes in the surrounding magnetic field.
That means that EVERYTHING that goes on in our heads causes very subtle alterations in the magnetic fields around us…. far too subtle to consciously detect.
But given how little we understand about the inner workings of the brain, who is to say that those differences in the magnetic field can’t in turn influence the synapse patterns of other people?
In theory… it would make unconscious telepathy at least partially feasible.
Nicole: “I’m in denial moving through anger into depression…”
I think Nicole might be my favorite character. Her face is just awesome! Though I like Nastajia and Kiwi’s faces too… Kiwi in particular when she makes a scary face. XD
Ouch! Dan got the finger AND the stink-eye…
why can’t she just believe in dreamland for once?
Please note that chlorine is a naturally occurring element. Humans had no say in its creation.
