Page 759…
New week.
I hope you had a wonderful weekend.
We spent the weekend relaxing. I’ve also been working on Book 3. Getting it ready for the printer (it hits stores in January).
I have ALL of the guest art and fan fiction going into the book. I’ll show you all when it’s ready.
In other news. Now that we’re in Tennessee. I just want to let you know we’ve been watching and rooting for the Tennessee Titans. We’ve always been a Hockey family. But everyone here is SO into football. We thought we’d start watching.
Well…6-0 later. It’s kind of fun.
In fact…the kids’ school actually is having a Tennessee Titans day. Everyone is encouraged to wear a Titans jersey/shirt to school. So the whole family got shirts and we’ll be watching TV tonight as they take on Payton Manning and the Colts.
I feel so…American now.
🙂
Oh well. Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy this week’s pages.
Scott
Scott,
It’s Peyton. 😉 And he’s almost as loved in Tenn as the Titans are. (He played for the Vols in college.)
I’m disappointed that Alex would still think Fel is a traitor, while Nastajia seems to have accepted that she was not. After all those events I would think Alex would have seen the truth as well, but I guess he feels more personally betrayed than Nas would have.
I bet Felicity managed to snag the amulet just before she blacked out.
You are an amazing artist and Dreamland is really an impressive piece of work. But I have to say I think there are too many pages like this. Nothing really happens, and the reader doesn’t get any new information. Those four speech-bubbles could have all been in the first panel (except I think it should feature Alex from the fourth panel), and the rest of the page could be used to takes us forward in the story. It’s not that this doesn’t work, it just slows the story down considerably, and that’s a shame. It also means you have to put that much more work into four different Alex’es before moving on. Well, you can of course manage your comic any way you like (I have to say, you have a lot of experience in this field), this is just a personal observation. You’ve gotten very far in this project and I’m extremely impressed with what you’ve accomplished either way.
Laura … I disagree. These pages are transit pages necessary for building up the story. The more, after all the action and tension, cutting some slack is quite usual a thing for an author to do. (Is this a proper english sentence at all? Geez) Besides – it isn’t that much more work. *gg* If Scott has a sane working environment, this said environment provides him with looots of convenience handles f. ex. for mimic & sorta.
ArtsAngel: Alex is a lad who au contraire to Nastajia acts out of his guts with out giving it a lot of thought. He ‘s gotta see that felicity means well. Then he ‘s gonna accept it.
That about sums it all up…Hahaa! I wonder what the other two think of the short and condensed version…XD
I haven’t been commenting all that much lately…hopefully I can get back to doing that. ^^;
This page will look really good once it gets into comic-book form. Though I guess I would have liked to see the other two’s faces.
…Now where have I seen that picture on ArtsAngel?
Here it comes. The not-so-long awaited, “Felicity?!” of recognition from Nicole. Well, I sure hope so. :3
lol. Yes, blending into a new place usually involves adapting to their sports obsessions. I’m from Pittsburgh, half my family went to Penn State but I’ve lived in Columbus, OH for 10 years now and I was red in the face because our beloved OSU Buckeyes lost to the Nittany Lions. Funny how things change. When I lived at home, I hated football, lol. But being invited to enough college football parties over the years gradually changes that…!
About today’s page… I think Alex is emoting, and when he calms down, he’ll have more compassion for Felicity.
Nice shirt on Alex, lovely shade of purple lol ^^
Quite the condensed version indeed. 🙂
Ah now football rears it’s head. As a Dallas Cowboys semi-fan, I must say I miss the Houston Oilers (now known as the Titans).
Lol! Love this condensed version of Chp 12! Alex throws a good rant!
Here it comes. The not-so-long awaited, “Felicity?!†of recognition from Nicole.
Not quite yet…
I think Nicole will demand a more in-depth resumee of Alex’ dreams pretty soon, starting with detailed descriptions of the various personages.
And that’s where she’ll get her big chance to recognize Felicity…
…Now where have I seen that picture on ArtsAngel?

Alex, you forgot that the dwarves want you as the next King of Dreamland! Now that would be interesting. Average life by day, hot elf queen and a kingdom by night.
I actually forgot about the amulet. Glad for the recap.
>>Kitsune: That would be rather interesting…I vote he goes into a coma!
>>JackAce: Thank you. I’d forgotten about that comic, but now it is back on my Favorites list of WebComx.
Sorry, Scott. You’re in Predator country now. Your days of hockey are basically over. 8^)
Distantvoices: I suppose I should make clear that I was criticizing Alex as a person, not him as an interesting character or Scott’s writing skills 😉
I have no doubt he’ll change his mind. He’s probably just dramatizing for effect 😀
These pages are part of the story. Would you spend all that effort rendering 3D for filler? Alex’s waking life is just as important as his dreaming life.
I not an expert or even an amateur, but based on the “making of dreamland” pages I suspect that these 4 panels did not take much more time than 2 panels would have. The background is not in sharp focus (and should not be) Alex is alone in all of the frames. In order to pick one “best” expression and posture for Alex Scott would have made dozens or hundreds and then selected. In this case he just selected 4.
It takes the same amount of time to read four voice bubbles. Why stuff them in a small space when readers can just click to the next? In print form it might make some sense to condense because it saves paper.
Fliss was NOT a spy…
Nic was just spreading filthy lies. =(
I think Nastajia just figures things out quicker than Alex does.
I’d bet the same.
