THE BOOKS ARE IN THE STORES!!!!
Ok guys. I’ve been talking about this for almost 3 years now. Some of you were around when I got my first rejection from the retailers who wouldn’t pick up Dreamland.
So I published the books and sold them myself off the site. And you guys supported me.
But a good deal of you waited for the books to hit stores. You wanted to purchase from Barnes and Noble, Borders, or any of your favorite book retail chains.
Well…as of today…I have not one…but TWO books out in stores.
The Dreamland Chronicles Book One!
ISBN: 9781600103070
Ed’s Terrestrials
ISBN: 9781600103100
Dreamland Book One is 300 pages. The first 4 chapters. A LOT of book.
Behind the scenes, Extra Covers, a Map, and more.
Ed’s Terrestrials is a funny graphic novel for kids 5-10 about 3 aliens who crash into a boy named Ed’s treehouse and befriend him.
Both books are available.
Now…here’s what I need ALL of you to do.
1) If you are one of the readers who wanted to buy Dreamland at the store. Please go to your local book retailer and ask them to get one for you (unless they have on in stock).
2) If you ALREADY have the book…please STILL ask your store to bring one in. Even if you don’t buy it…it’ll be at your local store for someone else to get.
3) Tell your friends and family. Word of mouth is HUGE.
For the last 7 years I’ve been working on Dreamland to get it to where we are today. I have at least 3 more years to go.
As most of you know…I’ve put tens of thousands of dollars into the production of this series and this is my full time job.
These books CAN be a big support of keeping this my full time job. And allowing me to finish this series. So even if you’re broke you can still help by getting a friend or family member to pick up the book. It’s not much to ask…and you get a lot of book for the price.
You all know I don’t like asking for much. I don’t have a donation button. I don’t cry poverty. I don’t make excuses and miss updates.
I try to be very professional.
So you know even asking you all for this is a bit uncomfortable. I don’t want anyone to feel pressured.
But I need to prove to the Barnes and Nobles, the Borders, and all of the retailers that we DO have a place in the book stores. And I can’t do this alone.
So if you have time this week. And feel so inclined. Please go and help us out. We’d really appreciate it.
Thank you all. We wouldn’t be here without you. At page 752. Over half way through this epic adventure.
You give me daily inspiration and courage to keep doing Dreamland. You guys are the best.
Hope you enjoy today’s page. And thank you for being on this journey with me and my family.
Scott
I love dreamland.
But nothing found here in the Netherlands though.
Yay! Healers finally get some recognition! Go healers!
I know I’m totally going up to my local B&N to see if they have it. 😀 If not, I’ll bug the heck out of them til they get a nice, big stock of them.
Great work so far mate, love every minute of it. I can’t wait to see where you take us. Congrats on the books and good luck in the future. ^^
I’d been worried about Felicity – too bad Alex can’t take her back with him to the sleep clinic, where they have a crash cart and other emergency med stuff.
As for the books, I can think of one other place where the Dreamland Chronicles might sell: College Bookstores. Alex is a college student after all, so there’s a demographic waiting. Plus, colleges are a place where there are often Fantasy/Sci Fi fans, including the LOTR series. Too, college art departments might be interested in seeing the books made available, as an example of where graphic arts are going (and because they’re really good work!)
So, Dreamland fans in college – Why not see if the campus bookstore will order a few as a test, and maybe see if faculty in the arts/graphic design departments are interested too? You can always send them to the website here for a first look.
Hey, longtime reader here, first time poster I think. Really excited to hear you’ve got the books in stores, I’ll go around and see if they have them here in Ottawa. 😀 If not, I’ll ask my American friends down in SC to get me a copy, since I’m going to visit them soon anyway. Wicked stuff, keep it up Scott!
Does anyone else think the purple guy on the “Ed’s Terrestrials” cover resembles Totoro?
Yea! That’s awesome Scott! I think my nieces would really enjoy Dreamland.. my only problem is the closest bookstore is now an hour away. 🙁 lol. And Thank you! for sharing this great story and your journey in making it with us. I’d love to make it to a convention and thank you in person one of these days! ^_^
we have borders here in Australia! Can i ask for it here?
Thank you all.
I’ll do my best to answer questions.
ChristineA…
If you can’t make it to a book store. You can order it online too. And I’d love to meet you at a convention as well. It’s so wonderful to get to put faces to the screen names…and also to do sketches in books too. 🙂
Fleesha…
Absolutely. It may take a bit to get it in…but ask them to order a bunch.
Inno Tenshi…
Thank you so much. And welcome!
Arnoud…
It couldn’t hurt to ask. I’m told ANYONE can get them. Just ask.
Cyber Cynic…
Thank you very much. I SO so appreciate the support.
a Map! well that’s great. i’m gald to hear that the books are in stores. are they also in the Nederlands in the stores
Hi Master of Stories…
Yes…EVERYWHERE.
They’re EVERYWHERE. Just ask your local book store.
rly? 😐 cause we have very few bookstores in the netherlands, where they sell comics that first were webcomics only… (i’m also still looking for ‘Order Of The Stick’, ‘Goblins’ and ‘Girl Genius’ =\)
They may not have it at first. But they can order it. Just like any book store.
Sounds good! I’ll have to check my local Barnes and Nobles!
Cool! Now, a look at the clerical peoples of Dreamland!
Oh! I forgot to tell you that I was able to order my copy from borders last Tuesday!
Great, I’m going to head over to B&N and get them to order some. My daughter will love this book for Christmas.
Yep. Makin’ a trip to Barnes&Nobles, I am.
Also, can I say whoever brought up the college demographic angle? That’s a really interesting idea – may see if I can generate some interest there too.
And to Tom Flapwell:
Yeah, it really does.
I usually am too shy to comment, but I want to congratulate you on your success. I have been quietly reading your comic for quite some time. You do a fabulous job and goodness I’ve been waiting for something like this to be made. I’m glad you were the one to do it.
I am eager to go to Chapters and purchase your book. Perhaps I will be able to do that today.
Congratulations again and I wish you all the best and many blessings to you and your family.
Due to a jerk of a manager, I lost my job and my oppurtunity to get the book and go to PhiliCon, but I swear, as soon as I get a job, I’m high-tailing it to Borders, and hopefully I can see you at a New York convention next year, same place where I heard about Dreamland.
On a side note, yay Centuars! I can’t wait to see your take on them! And I hope Felicity gets better, I really like her.
Yay! ISBN#’s, now I can request the library buy them too!
Best of luck selling them, you worked hard for it.
Will do, Scott!
BTW, you’re missing an apostrophe in the last balloon – it should be “friend’s”, not “friends”
well swiss looks bad for the book, the said the try, but the can’t do much if there contact hasn’t anything.
Alex stays quit long in dreamland this time.
I can recommend to buy Dreamland if your comic store can get a hand on it, it`s awesome to have a real copy in your hands to read. It`s a lovely book, really thick and printed in beautiful colours.
@ Arnoud: just ask a local comic shop. (not just the Bruna or something but a shop specialized in comics) Just search for one on the internet, they`re everywhere in the Netherlands. My local shop can order a lot from many different publishers abroad. So try it! 🙂
To al the other Dutchies: the book is on bol.com 😀 So also available in the netherlands :D:D:D
Hey, Scott, I’m surprised that no one’s pointed this out before, but the word “friends” in the final panel seems to be missing a necessary apostrophe.
So the Centaurs are dream-shamans? Now Dreamland is making some kind of sense…
Hmm … I just realized that, in my sojourn through these archives, I have reached the point in time that roughly coincides with my hospital stay last year. Scott (if you still read these archives), I for one am glad you were having good luck to offset my bad luck!
I’m reading all the comments as I go along, so I should be caught up in another week or so …
🙂
Hey, I just found out that my Chapters (Indigo, Coles) has all the Dreamland books online, as well as a Felicity figure. I’ll look at the brick-and-mortar store itself for them, though, since I don’t have a credit card and it would be a perfect idea for a thing to add to my Christmas/birthday wishlist.
Yay centaurs! I always love seeing depictions of centaurs in art.
