You know Scott, I think these last few panels have been some of the best I’ve seen yet, especially Nastajia’s face, she looks AWESOME! Keep up the great work 😉
That Dwarf is a little off the rocker…
haha no, no but i sometimes wonder if only Alex & his friends are up against Nicodemus… is that right?
probably not…
Great art in your comic, i agree w/ A.C.
Keep it up! ill be reading.
LazerWulf: I vote Paddington. It’ll hurt more. A lot more.
Anyways, I really like this comic, but there’s one thing that keeps bothering me.
You write it as if it was a film instead of a comic. I don’t mean the writing exactly, but the… panels? Full pages of just tiny little movements don’t work all too well in a comic book (Not this page, though. It works for dramatic effect here) while they work perfectly in a film. You have to remember that these are solid pictures. Maybe when having two characters talk, switch the camera angles around to keep it interesting.
Again, I’m not talking about this specific page. I’m talking about pages that’ll have, oh I dunno… 9 panels of the same characters in the same spot in each panel, just their pose is a bit different. Or 4 panels of the ship tilting for Paddington. Just move the camera around so that us short attention span’d people are still happy.
But I don’t think anything could stop /me/ from reading it. Seriously. The writing is awesome. 😀

I absolutely disagree.
Comics as a medium of expression has spent far too much time in the area of high drama. Looking through sequential art’s history, it is no wonder that comics are perceived largely as being melodramatic and short on story depth and character development.
Counterintuitive as it may seem, letting up on the intensity and paying a whole lot more attention to the subtleties of emotion and character can make for a much greater level of reader engagement and immersion. The impact of pivotal events and climaxes lies primarily not in the objective intensity of the climax, but in the subjective contrast between where the story started and where it’s ended up. The drop of a pin can be a massive event in contrast to a vacuum of complete and utter silence.
1. I still maintain the ‘dwarf’ king is being a moron. He’s a single target that stands out like a sore thumb and Scott’s already established that Natashja can hit a relatively small target (Pirate’s back) from a good distance (he was in the air, on a ship, gotta figure Natashja would have to be some distance away and probably on a hill to even get the angle) will mounted on a moving platform (Paddington) that was probably jerking around a good deal (try running with a full cup of really hot coffee and you’ll see what I mean). And that’s just ONE of the threats he’s facing. Dwarf King=Arrogant Noob.
2. I do like the use of different camera angles for general action shots, it keeps the scene from seeming repetitive. This cartoon isn’t a general action shot, it’s more of a emotive character transition shot. The DK’s words are taking Nat on a emotional journey. We, as the readers, have to be able to follow that journey to really understand what she’s going to do next.
Melzai, I’m gonna have to disagree. I might if it were a once a week, or two times a week updates…but every day keeps it moving fast enough that that isn’t a problem in my opinion.
Oh boy. He crossed the line. Staj probably wouldn’t really care if she herself was taken (Well, she would, but not as much) as long as her friends were free. Threatening her friends was a REALLY bad move, dwarf.
To Melzai: A lot of comics have the panels with little movements. i guess you could say it brings a comic to “life” 🙂 And thus, a great comic. Oh, & i was wondering… has the Dreamland Chronicles been going on for about… 2 years, was it? I dunno but i think thats how long ive been reading it.
Great job, Scott.
As for Kyevan: I think youre right ’bout that. 🙂
Now, what i really loved about this comic… was the
story. Its unique. I really, truly, honestly have never read a comic like this. Oh, and the animation. Its really good. I personally liked Joey & Nastajia’s character design.
Keep it up, Scott! im gonna keep reading.
Hi Webcomic Fan…
The comic updates 5 days a week (Monday through Friday). I haven’t missed an update in the 2 and a half years I’ve been putting Dreamland online.
Thank you for reading and hope that helps.
Melzai…
Thank you very much for reading Dreamland. And thank you for your constructive critique of the storytelling.
I think that every artist finds his or her own way. I have always wanted to do comics. I got to do Spider-Man back in 2002. It was a life long dream come true.
But when I started Dreamland. I wanted to treat it as an animated feature. Both in the development and in the storytelling.
So yes. Some pages will have very little movement. I am showing “beats of time” as I see them in my head.
I came from animation for tv and film and I see each and every panel as stills to a moving piece.
I hope this helps…and thank you again for reading and for your kind words about Dreamland.
Methinks a royal beatdown on the dwarf king by the elven princess is in order(because you did make threats against her friends, including her beloved). Dwarf King, we barely knew thee

Someone needs to pop this guy in the face.
I vote Alexander.

He’s a dozen times too big for a dwarf, I smell something fishy. Could he be a nightmare-changeling?
blind loyalty gets a lot of folks in trouble..
Melzai, I agree, but I’ve never voiced it o.o

ok thanks
@ArgentTree. Just another particular about this scene – the shot keeps moving closer to Nastajia, which emphasizes her emotional journey.

Nat looks so real in the last panel. I really love that image of her. It’s really cool!
Better talk fast to convince him his loyalty is misguided.
I love it just the way it is
not to be a kiss @$$ or anything

OK Alex ,backstab the king NOW!!! While you got a chance!
uff.
Don’t act so surprised, Your Highness. You weren’t on any mercy mission this time.
You are part of the rebel alliance and a traitor. Take her away!
