Amazing trailer! Also, glad to see this comic wrapping up so nicely!
Aww poor mom. Still hope there is a portal somewhere just for personal use…
The Animal Cracker trailer looks amazing!!
I hope not. But maybe something so she can see him and talk to him – what we though the Nieve’s lake is before she showed you can actually transport things through it.
BTW, isn’t the letter to big to transfer?
Don’t know. It looks like it could b folded a few more times to fit.
Mom’s taking it pretty well, considering. Of course, we missed the crying jag, I’m sure. At least Dan can keep them both in touch.
Looking forward to the movie. Won’t be long now.
Now we to see Alex’s new life in Dreamland with the woman-elf of his dreams….!
Where is dad in all this? I’m pretty sure I remember they mentioned dad being around.
y’know, just because I’m a mom and this scene makes me sad, I choose to believe dad is actually very chill about the whole thing.
Mom: Dear, Alex has gone to live in that magical dream world Dan told us about. We won’t see him again.
Dad: What, with that purple-haired girl with the ears?
Mom: Yes.
Dad: *toasts Alex with his morning coffee* Good on ya, lad.
I’m still amazed that you have such an awesome cast for Animal Crackers. It makes me feel like I get to talk to a celebrity.
Ha!
I think, because I wrote the story for my boys, I felt that representing a “dad” was kind of weird as I’m the dad.
I reference him once in a while. But never really wanted to show him.
This really breaks my heart. Nothing worse than losing a child. 🙁
This feels like a bit of a downer ending, especially considering dreamlands weird timeflow.
Sure, Alex is with Nastaja, but his mom might grow old and die by in the real world while only a few weeks pass for him, not to mention how she could possibly explain his absence to people who want to know why no one has seen anything of her son in years?
I may be overthinking all this but I kinda hope he won’t be stranded in dreamland forever.
On a lighter note, I didn’t expect the animal crackers movie to look so professional, not to mention have such a voicecast. I really hope it performs well.
woah a story where the parent gets to know the truth. They didn’t lie about what had happened. I appreciate that.
Don’t think of it as losing a child, because he isn’t dead. Think of it more like… moved halfway around the world and is shacked up with his hot girlfriend. Because..well.. that is closer to the truth.
I squeed inside when I recognized the opening notes of Katie Herzig’s “Lost and Found” in the trailer. I’ve absolutely loved that song ever since the first time I heard it in a movie called Family Weekend.
Also, Patrick Warburton is probably my all-time favorite voice actor, so yay for that.
And Emily Blunt is one of my favorite actresses, though I would never have guessed that was her voice. It also struck me that this may be the first time she and her hubby John Krasinski have played a couple in a movie. (IMDB confirms it that it is.) So meta.
Love the trailer, Scott. Looking forward to seeing the film. And enjoying the comic. I am looking forward to seeing where it goes, but still wishing the story continued.
P.S. I also meant to add that the trailer reminds me strongly of both Coraline (Zoe looks just like a grown-up Coraline with purple hair, while Owen looks kind of like Coraline’s dad) and The Lorax trailer (similar music, similar candy-colored scenery, and of course Danny DeVito). Which are both movies I enjoyed, so that’s not a bad thing.
Plus Alex probably gets to parent the first leader of dreamland to actually be born in dreamland on top of getting Nicodemus’ job.
… that’s almost Dunkel’s level of acceptance … http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1066
She never gets to see her son again. Even halfway around the world, it’s possible to see your kid. It’s harsh.
