Oh, Nicodemus. You had your chance for redemption and now this.
Well… it is not dark energy flowing through the tubes… Let’s wait and see what is happening here…. Maybe he is turning himself to a dream?
Giving life back to those children and sacrificing himself in one last act of valor?
I’m sure it will be totally misunderstood by everyone.
I reckon he is doing something reckless such as saving the children by giving them his life energy. Seems to be a valid assumption. Just look at his prone body. Lets wait what gunna happen. 😉
Kids waking up from comas all over the world.
Wasn’t expecting this … but this is really cool. Seems Nicodemus feels compunction for what he did in complying with the nightmare realm kidnapping the kids, and, seeing he’s dying anyway, decides to sacrifice himself for them.
indeed!
Page 2070: he is about to redeem himself, to save himself, by sacrificing himself for the kids, so that future generations will always remember Nicodemus as the good dragon with good intentions (even if it went wrong through dogmatic apprach of the good intentions).

Hoping for hero dragon!
Nice logo, Scott! Very adventurous looking!
Does Nic have any long range plans for that device???
I’m thinking so and hoping so. I think he did eat that leaf, so he might have an abundance of life energy to feed back into the kiddos, or at least sustain him while he feeds back. Man, I hope that’s what he’s doing.
Unless I’m wrong, that comment in the last panel doesn’t sound benevolent. It sounds like he’s planning to use their last bit of life energy to heal himself at their expense. Unless he’s talking about saving his legacy, but it doesn’t sound like it. I don’t know whether he ate that leaf or not. I think this qualifies as a cliff-hanger Friday, just because we don’t know for sure yet what he’s doing.
Whoa, what a cliffhanger! Is Nick trying to redeem himself, or is he just taking advantage of the power void left by Gil’s defeat?
Does this mean you managed to re-create or recover your models?
Loving the logo, but it looks like Alex is flicking the sword from the scabbard and not pulling it (it’s moving in an arc so I’m guessing it’s cutting through the side of the scabbard??) Sorry, that’s a nitpick of mine in these things. But it still looks great.
And yes, I’m hoping for hero dragon too.
Could be both. Nick may have used the energy flow from the children long enough to stop his bleeding, then reversed the flow to feed his magical energy back to the children to save them, perhaps also including a command for the pods to release the children.
Sorry for being off topic but I wanted to share this cool story.
I woke up with just on big question so I decide to just stand outside on the porch. As I closed my eyes I felt the cold breeze. Then I opened my eyes and looked at the stars God made. I felt His smile through them. As I listened to the wind it felt like he was speaking. I just my spirit run free and I felt happy. I didn’t even feel cold. The question was, Why did God create the Tree of Life? So when you get a chance, go outside like around midnight and look at the stars. You be surprised what you can hear and see.
Thanks God for creating us
This was a true story
After following the comic page by page since the early chapters, I’ve just finished re-reading the whole story from the beginning, and was impressed by how smoothly it reads and how well the whole plot comes together. Things that seemed confusing when I was reading it on a day-by-day basis (because it was so easy to forget little details that happened weeks or months ago in comic time) make perfect sense when you read it all at once. The characterization is solid and consistent, there’s a strong emotional arc for Alex, Daniel and Nicole as well as several of the Dreamland characters, and clues to the climax and resolution are nicely seeded into the backstory. The Biblical allusions and themes are a special bonus (I particularly enjoyed the dialogues between Daniel and Nicole on the subject of faith and evidence, for instance).
An excellent, really enjoyable webcomic all around, and this fellow pro author applauds you! Thanks for the past eleven years (!!!) of fine storytelling.
Wow, R.J. Thank you so much.
I needed a pick me up like that today.
🙂
I’m so glad you liked it. And coming from a well respected author such as yourself makes it even more meaningful.
Thank you!
Scott
Remember it has no scabbard. It just attaches to the back of Alex’s armor.
So I’m thinking Nicodemus is going to sacrifice himself for the children, and then Felicity will arrive, with Excalibur’s scabbard and they will heal Nicodemus just in time for him to survive and assist Daniel for years to come.
I was thinking about this because I remembered that Felicity was on her way, and she would be upset about missing all of the “fun”, but might still have a vital role in helping Nicodemus survive. (She will possibly hesitate, from the way he treated her, but end up offering him the second life and second chance that she was given, showing that forgiveness can be passed on, too.)
P.S. I haven’t said so, before, but I really love the logo.
