I think someone has an ace in the hole, perhaps Daniels slumbering body by the bathtub. The beast may be free but instructed not to kill Daniel (who knows where the plant is) but be there as a threat and bargaining chip.
“Imprison” seems to be the right term. Having violated what is very likely in some form of Dreamland law, he should be so lucky to not only get the eternal life he wants so badly, but a rather spacious prison with freedom within it. Should have taken Door #1.
This should be good. Gil is captain of a sinking ship. His Dreamland army is gone. Merlin is awake and controls the Portals. Daniel, who has shown himself to be personally unkillable and unstoppable, is standing right in front of him and has the plant he wants more than anything else. And those are just the things he knows about, he has no idea Alex and Co. are working on freeing the children who are his power source. If Gil has enough chutzpah he’ll demand Daniel’s absolute surrender and submission, and the same for Dreamland and Earth. And if he can run a bluff well enough, he’ll get it.
Does Dan know that the Dreamland army is done? and does Gil know that Dan knows?
and does Dan know that Gil knows that Dan knows?
Are either of them Sicilian??
Dan is flying even blinder than Gil. He has no idea what’s going on in Dreamland OR how precarious Gil’s position is. Gil doesn’t know what Dan knows, but that he’s even trying to bargain instead of just ordering Abaddon to stand down would suggest he knows little. So I suspect Gil is about to try to psych Dan out and get the whole plant, if nothing else.
Gilgamesh has been “imprisoned” in that Dreamland tank for the last 3000 years. He can see through the eyes of the Nightmare Realm creatures, who move at his command. Renewing this setup a century at a time in exchange for peace does not seem a hardship.
Also, Dan said that single leaf would revive Gilgamesh’s earthly body, freeing it from the life support tank for a century. Gilgmesh would not be imprisoned at all, just need a booster leaf each century.
I do love how everybody’s not so favorite dragon is curled around the new king.
He may have spent the last couple chapters lamenting on how he is a dying old dragon, but he’s making his position clear. They’ll have to go through him to get to the king.
Now…he may be a conniving backstabber, and I COULD see a story where he does that to the new king…but I think a totally different backstab is in character for him.
I think it is a possibility that at some time soon he’ll reveal that all his protestations of dying and death’s door and all that jazz were designed to make the Nightmare realm think he is no longer a threat. And I would LOVE to see him reveal it by making good his current defensive posture and rising in defense of his king.
It would make for a very interesting character arc for this greatest of backstabbers and tyrants in the history of Dreamland. His (possibly) final acts being in defense of the new king and the new order.
Meanwhile,back in the Nightmare Realm….
King Daniel is having Gilgamesh(a.k.a. The Forgotten One)agree to his terms…!
I hope SOMEONE catches my Marvel Comics reference there! 😉

INCONCEIVABLE!!
You keep using that word, I don’t think it means what you think it means. 😉

Oh. I heard Ted Knight’s voice in my head, for the Justice League of America cartoon, of the 80s.
I miss hearing Ted Knight’s voice!
