So what was the original plan, I wonder. Because without Merlin (and the right timing), it would have failed spectacularly and Dan would be without a girlfriend right now.
Good point actually. Nicole was going to defend Merlin’s tree from the nightmare beasts all by herself? Dan had no way of knowing how long it would be before Felicity could revive Merlin or for that matter, if she was ever successful in doing so. Nicole could certainly be commended for bravery if she knew she was going into this alone, but I think Nicole’s strength is intelligence more than bravery. It would have made more sense for the elven king and queen to stay with her to defend Merlin in case she needed help (which she clearly did). Sure, this is a fantastic moment where Merlin appears to save the day, but I just don’t see how it makes any sense that she was there by herself in the first place. “But, none of them knew that the tree would be surrounded by nightmare beasts”, you say. Really now? Neither Dan nor Nicole are dumb enough to overlook the possibility that Abbadon may have sent a force to Merlin’s tree especially considering there is a portal there.
I think that Dan knew that Felicity was supposed to be retrieving the tablet to release the spell so Merlin could wake up at the tree. He had confidence that she would succeed, and probably knew that if she failed, they would likely lose, anyway.
What I don’t think he had any way of knowing was that she had been poisoned, become unconscious, and thus delayed the reading of the spell, which meant Nicole was cutting it this close.
The original plan was probably for Nicole to make sure that Merlin (somebody with the magic to fight off the beasts, and the person that might be the most familiar with the plant) was given custody of the plant, and told that his girlfriend was aging in a bathtub, rather than waiting for him where she used to live.
He might also need Merlin to either watch over him and Nivienne, or make sure all Nightmare beasts in the area are destroyed, and then destroy the portals.
Whatever the plan, if any, exact timing is out of question completely. It’s been established long ago that Wakeworld time and Dreamland time don’t exactly match. Which made perfect sense… up to this point.
I think they didn’t know that many nightmare beasts (if any) would be at the tree. I think Nicole was dressed for the initial fight with elves and then expected to just be a messenger for Merlin. So, yes. A miscalculation in Dan’s plan for sure.
Sorry to say, we are assuming Marlin is poping out of the tree wher Nicole is. But it also can be at an other place as well. We see only see beast flying around.
I like to see Marlin and Nicole together before i go this way.
Other then that, i agree about the above, when Nicole is really fighting the beast alone, then that is a very big miscalculation from Danny king.
“I have returned” is the correct grammar, and would also repeat General MacArthur’s famous line in World War 2. Unless there is some other reference, I suggest Scott fix that.
At this point I hope the plant was left with Ninieve for safe keeping, because the Nightmare creatures tore everything off of Nicole. (Thanks to PG rating they did not strip her naked.)
“I am returned” is acceptable grammar, I believe, even if it seems a bit unusual. It might be used to indicate the fact that Felicity had a hand in his being returned to earth.
There is at least one passage in the King James Version of the Bible that uses the phrase “I am returned” (Zechariah 8:3). So it seems more common in older English.
“I am returned” seems to connect more with the fact that he was dreaming for 1000 years with his spirit separate from his body, and now he is whole again.
“I have returned” would be if Merlin had left, or otherwise not been in the immediate area, and come back. An argument could be made that his spirit was gone, but supposedly (IIRC) his body was in the grove of trees the entire time.
Except.. MacArthur actually left the Philippines, he didn’t go to sleep in a grove of trees on a hill outside Manila and then awaken a few years later. It made sense for him to say ‘have’ since he actually left, unlike Merlin, who never physically left.
As mentioned above the ‘am returned’ fits better since his spirit has now rejoined his body and he is whole again.
Well, that answers that question.
I… HAVE… THE POWER!
Nick of time.
Oculus Reparo
So will Nicole tell him he is late, only for him to reply that a wizard is never late, but arrives precisely when he intends to do so?
Michael Bay is MERLIN!
Oh, that poor tree…
No… Nic’s with Dan.
That’s Nic of Dreamland.
That tongue tho…. on the beastie in first panel <3
By Merlin’s beard! … Oh, wait…

BOOM BABY!

We’ll see if this was an error on Dan’s part, if Nicole was improvising, or what, soon. I hope.
HEEERE he comes to save the DAY!!

Now THAT is what I call an entrance 🙂

Lemme show you this fabulous entrance, my friend Gandalf recommended it
I wonder if Nicole will start embracing all that she has witnessed…!

Protoss StarCraft reference?
Lol , i know those lines, but from what was it, i see it so for me.
But no clue which movie it is from.

Thannks to @Charles below now i know where those lines where coming from. ?
Nicole should have gone with the composite stick instead of the wood twig.
Is it Old English to say “…AM returned”?
Grammar-technical it should’ve been ‘I Have returned’, wouldn’t it?
I AM RETURNED!!!.. ANd I am CRANKY Because I have NOT had Coffee in WAY TOO LONG!” (ZZZAAAP!)
no, just no
BLAST THEM TO BERMUDA!!!

That was my senior quote. I am such a nerd. 🙂
‘I have… oh, no. That would make me sound like one of those Protoss Dragoons. I AM RETURNED!’
Considering their method of striping would leave her in blood, I think it wasn’t just PG rating.
Now there’s a kaboom Marvin the Martian would be satisfied with.

NIC of Time is his brother!
I am returned! And see, I brought my Lacrosse stick with me…
