Who didn’t see that comming a mile away? The look on Niviene’s face was, “Yes, walk right into my trap. That’s right, don’t believe me, help me widdle down the numbers…”
Perhaps a carnivorous one could, though. But it’s not every day you have enough treats for a plant as big as to gobble meals this big. Makes one wonder what did the lady feed it with all those years.
Photosynthesising bacteria are the closest thing to plants found around hydrothermal vents so far, or so they say. Gilgamesh surely wouldn’t identify them as such.
Wasn’t there and haven’t seen that myself, but they say they’ve found some cyanobacteria using the vents’ “faint glow” for photosynthesis down there. At +400 centigrade those vents should emit quite a lot of almost-red radiation, so it sounds quite plausible.
Oh look, they met Fluffy.
“Aaaauuugh”?
Not really a sound I would have expected to come from nightmare realm creatures.
Was thinking more of a screech or something.
The last panel on the previous page: “No. Don’t. Stop.”
This page: They “simply walked into Mordor.”
I was expecting something like OM NOM NOM…
“And that is why we leave some people behind, so as not to all get wiped out.”
*grins* I saw that coming 🙂
Naaaah, it’s a classic Wilhelm Scream sound effect.
Actually, this WOULD be the perfect place for that plant.
It is hidden in the darkness, and so is what guards it.
they totally did not see that coming!
But I did!
Who didn’t see that comming a mile away? The look on Niviene’s face was, “Yes, walk right into my trap. That’s right, don’t believe me, help me widdle down the numbers…”
Now if she’s got any sense (which she obviously has) when the ones they left to guard her are distracted she’ll get out as fast as she can.
“I warned ye! I warned ye! But nooooooooo! You would na listen!”
I was rather hoping this might be the case.
Leaving a few more snacks for the cave dwellers might be a better idea.
(Wonder what they are. Salami snakes?)
A plant growing in complete darkness?
Perhaps a carnivorous one could, though. But it’s not every day you have enough treats for a plant as big as to gobble meals this big. Makes one wonder what did the lady feed it with all those years.
That doesn’t sound good. I couldn’t tell; did they take Niviene with them?
Is that cave home to the legendary Kraken???
I approve of this message. 🙂
Yes, they did. But she knew what was coming and they didn’t. So hopefully she got out of the way in time…
OM NOM NOM LOLWUT.
Just sayin’.
I think they got an owie.
No no, it’s ‘Aaaaah’, with the back of the throat.
ha! Rereading it that way made the page better.
Totally called it.
sometimes the only reason Good gets to win is because Evil is so very, very stupid
treu, and sometimes the reason evil wins is because good is so very, very stupid.
C’mon guys, that’s a classic Charlie Brown yell!
LOVE the bleeding crunch sound effect, and I will forever hear the Wilhelm scream when I read this page.
*cough* whittle *cough*
Sorry to be that guy; I can’t help it.
😳 😉
No, No. From the last page she needed to wait outside with two guards.
You may be right. Abaddon IS stupid enough to do that. We shall see.
Lots of plants grow in darkness, taking their energy from the thermal vents under the sea. Oh, look! We’re under the sea. Convenient.
The carnivorous eating-thing is probably the guardian not the plant. Assuming the plant is even here.
Photosynthesising bacteria are the closest thing to plants found around hydrothermal vents so far, or so they say. Gilgamesh surely wouldn’t identify them as such.
It wouldn’t be photosynthesis – no light down there. I believe the word you were looking for would be “chemosynthesis”.
Wasn’t there and haven’t seen that myself, but they say they’ve found some cyanobacteria using the vents’ “faint glow” for photosynthesis down there. At +400 centigrade those vents should emit quite a lot of almost-red radiation, so it sounds quite plausible.
That’s a new one on me, but I agree, sounds plausible.
😉
