You have seen the invincibility of the King of Dreamland, Nicodemus. Daniel might heal you if you behave like a real advisor to the King, not the backstabbing evil dragon that you have been for all these centuries. Even Apollyon opposes you now.
As was speculated by a few people, Abbadon may realize that attacking Dan’s sleeping form may be the best course. So, Nick really is mortally wounded. I wonder if Dan is feeling compassion for him.
I do not see Nick as truly evil. In his mind, he always sought out the best for Dreamland. He believes adult humans never put Dreamland first because they do not live there, only visit when they are the king and are dreaming. Every king makes choices he thinks is best for his realm, even though the people may not see it that way. I do not agree with his choices but then again I do not know the whole picture or why he made the choices he did.
actually Scott did a lot of flashback stuff and Nick has even said he didn’t know that Abaddon had planned to rule both worlds force-ably and was tricked into dethroning Arthur. So he had made choices in the face that he thought Arthur was going to ruin Dreamland yes but he didn’t know about the Nightmare realm’s plans either when he was told about Arthur. From what I can tell Nick never knew about Abaddon’s plans on ruling both realms, he did in fact know there was a portal between worlds at one time and allowed that, which is how the guardians came to be, since they got stuck in Dreamland just as the Nightmare creatures that were on Earth got stuck there when the portal was destroyed by Ramses the II.
Even if he does get healed (which I foresee happening), Dreamland would never let him dethrone another human King after they learned the truth. Nastajia, her parents (when they return), the Dwarf King and many other races wouldn’t allow Nick to rule again. Many aren’t gonna like that he is still alive either but will tolerate it as long as he isn’t king I believe.
Ah. So finally after all this time of readers questioning “Did Nic mean mortally wounded?” , “Does Scott know what ‘mortally’ means??”, *insert obligatory Princess Bride quote*, “If Nic’s mortally wounded why is he still alive???” we finally have the answer. Scott knew what “mortally” meant all along and boy did he ever sit on that spoiler for a long time.
While I agree, I also don’t see Nic as “truly evil” this same could be applied to many many others. I mean, as an extreme example even Hilter, in his mind, was likely seeking what was best for his country. Yes, most would undoubtedly say Hilter was evil, but every measure of good and evil depends on the “yardstick” you’re measuring it against. The most evil among us in both real and fantasy histories have had some rationale in their mind that excused them or made them “right”. Nic’s pro-DL motivations may seem right but he was shortsighted since I don’t think most of DL was quite right without it’s rightful human king.
I agree Amber. Nic has done some rotten things and I do not condone his actions. But almost all kings do rotten things at times; that doesn’t mean they are evil or wicked. (Look at King David in the Bible, as a prime example.) Sometimes they just get lost. Power corrupts. A good king may lose his way– but then find it again when the opportunity presents.
There were things Nicodemus didn’t know, and that influenced his actions. There were things he misinterpreted, making him feel Dreamland was threatened and even betrayed. He had power both from his position and as a Dragon. If any of us had almost ultimate power… would we always make the right decisions? Looking back on those decisions, would we later feel we did the right thing, or would there be regrets?
Is Nic really dying? Hard to say. It only looks like a flesh wound, but we haven’t seen the inside of that huge gash. If it nicked a vital organ (intestine, lung, spleen, liver?) he would be dying slowly and painfully. Could be he has resigned himself to such. Can Dan heal him? Maybe. If he can and does, then we will see Nicodemus’ true nature– and by that nature he will most likely be judged instead of his errant past.
We find many, many things can be forgiven when a heart turns around from a wrong course. It is one of the greatest miracles and blessings in life.
Follow-up: I think Nic has a nicked lung. He’s coughing up blood. So he very likely could be slowly suffocating or bleeding out internally. Very telling sign.
I agree that even those who are perceived to be “evil” or doing wrong can turn around and atone for their wrongdoings. In the t.v. show Once Upon A Time, not only does the Evil Queen become good she is on the path to becoming a Hero and is able to use light magic.
Well he certainly can’t be loosed while he is bleeding out like that. But then who would they loose him on anyway? The Abaddon situation seems to be dealt with quite adequately.
Well, I can’t say that I would be THAT sad to see him go…
Wow! I wonder if Dan will find some way to get Nicodemus healed?
Believe him at your peril, Dan. Nic has proven to be duplicitous. And pretty good at it, too.
We can’t loose the Dragon! Dan, you have to help Nic!

And risk becoming the third King of Dreamland in a row dethroned by the reptile?

So… party?
Nick may be an evil backstabber, but I really don’t want him to die. 🙁

Ah, the dainty cough of a dragon.. 🙂
Panel two onward: Dragon snot!

Same reply as to Jake. 😉
Sorry, *Jay

Wait, what beasts? The nightmare realm beasts are keeping him alive? Howzat?
To borrow from another epic story: “The hands of the king are the hands of a healer, and so shall the rightful king be known.”

I hope he does not die, I like Nic.
