“We’re sorry – you have reached a Portal that has been disconnected or is no longer in service…”
Why is he talking to water?
Time to kiss a mermaid!
the shadows are starting to creep me out a bit…they make him look really mad….but the story is getting really suspenseful =) if thats a word…..
We’re hungry for a fish dinner but we can’t afford the fillets. Please come and “volunteer” your services to help us with such a feast.
Seriously, I hope she comes to his call. Really embarrassing and really stupid to be screaming at a lake, even with two elves behind him.
Poor Alex. D: Poor dear. Though, as I doubt Niviene even knows the King and Queen are on Earth, this will probably be interesting for her as well.
Yell louder, and your voice will rip open a portal to Dreamland. 😛
Merely holding Excalibur does not make one the King of Dreamland. You need a different sword to do that.
Alex doesn’t realize that Niviene was captured by the Nightmare Realm beasts…!
Oh joy. The possibility of Niviene and Nastajia’s parents all together in one place, telling Alex what to do, for his own good, “because I said so,” without needing to provide rational, persuasive reasoning to back their own arguments like grown adults should.
I am significantly more worried for the fate of Alex right now than I am for the fate of Nastajia, Felicity, and everyone on the airship.
Actually, they’re very good at rational, persuasive reasoning. The problem is that their arguments don’t sit well with people who have their own ideas of what is “right” and “how things should be” (i.e. Alex and several of the readers who post comments). 😛
I certainly hope Niviene is okay…and I wonder if Alex ever got to hear about how she was attacked when Dan was last at the pond. 🙁 It would be very nice if she showed up and helped them figure out what to do. For all that she was interested in seeing Dan take the throne, I’d bet that she’d jump on the bandwagon to help Alex when she learned that Nic forced the issue. She has no reason to trust his motives, and every reason to think he’s Up To Something given her knowledge of how he handled Arthur.
But I halfway feel like she won’t appear for Alex because she’s busy trying to save herself from Legion (or she’s been incapacitated by them), which makes me wonder if Alex has a Plan B for trying to save Nastajia.
Alex knows he isn’t King of Dreamland anymore. Whether that knowledge has completely seeped through his entire consciousness yet or not he does know it.
Eeesh… yeah, Alex is upset. The shadows just drive that point home. Good atmosphere, Scott!
Pretty sure no one is going to respond to you shouting when you’re wielding a big sword and have an angry look on your face. Just saying. 😛
Yeah…I don’t think she’s there. She was under attack by an awful LOT of bad guys when we last saw her. I think that was only the previous night, wasn’t it?
Still, 24 hours would definitely give Niviene time to defeat her attackers, if she wasn’t overwhelmed.
you’d think she’d have some sort of spell up her sleeve to get rid of the nightmare beasts. maybe she turned them into minnows? plankton?
I strongly disagree. They might have had actual, rational reasons for asking Alex to abdicate the throne, but if they do, they have never disclosed them. All their arguments have pretty much boiled down to “Daniel is the rightful king” or “Only Daniel can set this right,” despite the fact that all three of them had been isolated from the rest of Dreamland to have a detailed knowledge of Alex’s accomplishments or Daniel’s hesitance. If they are so dogmatically determined to remove Alex–who has already won the approval of the rest of Dreamland and even been officially recognized as king by the sword–in favor of a stranger they’ve just met, then WHY? No sufficient reason has been given to justify the magnitude of what they have been asking. Because of this, they come across as meddlesome, nagging parents instead of the wise mentor stereotypes they’re only pretending to be.
That was then. And yesterday didn’t look much better. “Please listen to reason!” (“Even though we don’t have one for you.”) “This is not helping Nastajia or your brother.” (“Not that we have any alternative suggestions for you; we just prefer to criticize your every choice. In fact, we find it so much fun, that’s why neither of us are helping your brother either!”)
And for what it’s worth, I think the ones arguing “what should be” are Niviene, Oberon, and Titania. I’m personally excited to see Daniel in Dreamland, and I’m anxious to see how Alex overcomes this separation from Nastajia. I’ve been hoping to see this kind of role reversal for years, and I can’t wait to see what happens next!
But despite my enthusiasm, I’ve simply found the “naggers'” arguments very difficult to take seriously. As I said, they haven’t been able to justify the magnitude of what they were asking. If they know of such a justification (for instance, greater “superpowers” bestowed to the king or some ancient, magically-enforced law of Dreamland that threatens the fate of all dreamers), then they should just come right out and say so.
I was wondering if Alex becomes so dark, bitter and angry that he becomes Abbadon?!?
Oh wasn’t trying to imply that you were not excited to see Dan in Dreamland! 🙂 I was just pointing out that a lot of the fan-base seems less than excited to see Dan in Dreamland since it means booting Alex out.
I get your point about their arguments not being very satisfying. However, I think that wanting to set things right by getting the rightful heir on the throne and then letting the natural course of succession take over is an understandable position. After all, the true king (back in the day) had been usurped. While the man who won Dreamland back from the usurper may be a great guy, he’s still not the “rightful heir.” In their minds (and potentially the minds of others who are aware of Alex’s role in the reclaiming of Astoria…we don’t know what was in the letters from Orion to Dan), he was a means to an end…not the end itself. It may not be a perfect argument, but it’s not irrational.
Now wouldn’t it be amusing if Felicity finally frees Merlin and he shows up right about now? I wonder how he’d react to Niviene in the clutches of the nightmare realm… Speaking of which, was Alex still around for that? If he was, it would seem rather odd he’d be screaming for her given he should remember her grotto was invaded…or was it Dan she was talking to at the time? Hrm, time to re-read the last couple chapters so I can remember what’s actually going on.
