So why does Nicodemus care about a Earth invasion? He supposedly hates humans and our world is teeming with them.
He’s probably worried that invasion would ruin Dreamland in the process of invading earth? Or maybe something more destructive?
one ecosystem exists in balance to the other accompanying neighbor system. If anything drastic like a goald style invasion were to occur the balance of powers in dreamland would be drastically Effed Up in reaction to whatever incursion would take place on earth. I’m Pretty sure Nicodemus has some idea of the effects of what an Earth take over would do to Dreamland past the Obvious ones like 1) Less kids visiting, or being completely barred and I wonder if children have been powering dreamland since they started visiting eons ago ’cause the ether system in dreamland adapted to their alien presence.
All sorts of Wacky could happen!
I still think that Alex should play Rock-Paper-Scissors-Lizard-Spock, wherein Rock crushes Lizard.
I see a truce coming. Even if it is only a truce of ensuring Earth is not being invaded, afterwards Alex can kill the Nic or exile him.
Hey Nic…you don’t tell us something new.
We already know this…Abaddon is ready to invade the Human’s realm and he already mustering his armies.
He already have his portal ready to use.
We have to assume that Nic worries about this invasion because it will disrupt the balance between the two realms, a balance Nic tried to maintain for millennia.
For that balance Nic killed Arthur when Arthur tried to connect the two realms.
BUT… is Niv telling us the truth?
Is he trustworthy?

We will see.
Alex: “I know.”
Nic: “You do?!”
“Inconceivable!” 😉
It’s nice that Alex knows that Nic is telling the truth (for once). That does not mean that Alex should be so stupid as to trust Nic any farther than he could throw him on Earth. Nic has, and will continue to have, his own agenda.
On a separate note… How much does Abaddon value his individual bodies? If they are easily replaceable, they would make excellent suicide bombers. (Or use other tactics that would be ‘impossible’ for individually bodied intelligences to duplicate.)

No, the enemy of my enemy is an enemy that can be distracted while I figure out how to use one against the other! That is NOT friend!
I’m still not sure why Alex feels he has to hold on to that rock during the entire monologue 🙂
Surely Alex would tell Nicodemus about meeting Nastajia’s parents on earth and how Dan is the rightful king of Dreamland and not him.
Nicodemus,in turn,would tell Alex that the mermaid Nivene can’t be trusted.
Because it’s Nic. All this might be a sham, a diversion, and he’ll lash out at Alex any second. A rock is not much, but at least it’s something. If I were Alex I wouldn’t relax my guard until and unless Nic hands over the Sword.
And even then, not much.
His “hatred” of humans stems from his past history with them. Because Abaddon told him that Ramses was invading Dreamland with an army (and due to his interactions with the less palatable leaders of our past), Nic believes that humans are invading and power-hungry creatures. He tolerated them for a while longer, but then when Arthur tried to create a way for his people to come to Dreamland (against Nic’s recommendations) Nic kind of snapped (again at the prodding of Abaddon and the wraiths it seems). His opinion of humanity was skewed by the denisens of the Nightmare Realm.
Now, he’s discovered that Abaddon intends to invade and conquer Earth…the very kind of action he abhorred Ramses for (supposedly) committing…and a lightbulb has gone off. Either Nic is a master player, or he has just discovered that he was probably played for a fool…and both of those options lead to an intriguing story for us! 😀

I think he sees humans as very irritating children, and he’s the grumpy teacher. He’d prefer if humanity just shut up and did as they were told, and left him in charge, but he still wants to protect us.
What, after a thousand years you’re only figuring that out NOW, Nic?

Random prediction: Nic and Alex team up to deal with Abaddon, after which? Well, dragons have often been regarded as monsters, so I could see Nicodemus ending up as Lord of the Nightmare Realm while Alex or Dan reigns as King of Dreamland (if Dan reigns through the sword, one of Alex or Nastajia probably crosses the portal. I’m not sure which would be the better ending, though I’d lean to Alex crossing and serving as right hand of his elder brother and likely regent while Dan is awake. but if ONE character crosses ONE way, Nastajia is liable to move, joining her parents on Waking Earth)
I think Nic cares ‘cos Abaddon invading earth implies free travel between the two worlds, which in turn implies that the humans he hates so much will have free way to enter dreamland.
Just a thought on the new languages layout… Shouldn’t the links for alternate languages be presented in their native language, rather than in English? For instance, the link to The Dreamer in Spanish should probably say “Español.”

Apparently I inadvertently wrote a LOT of characters for my 1700th page…ugh.

Should be done sometime Wednesday. Just not early morning as usual.
GOD I hope Alex response is “Yeah, so what? You think you’re doing a big reveal here? I found this out already! Where have you been?”

Oooh, very interesting. Assuming Nicodemus really does have the best interests of dreamland at heart and isn’t totally consumed by his desire for revenge, having learned of the Nightmare Realm’s plan it makes perfect sense that he’d be willing to put aside his differences and team up with Alex.
