it’s kind of interesting to see Nastajia being selfish… Clearly, Dan as king is best for dreamland … and Alex for that matter! While his character has grown immensely, he still is not the leader; that’s not right, not the decision- maker that Dan is. I just don’t see him as king. He is more the Royal Knight type.
That’s wonderfully evil of you Scott. We the viewers know that if Alex woke up he’d see her parents and the whole complexion of this would change. They don’t know and we get to see them twist. I love it!
Oooh! Oooh! Oooh! What’s gonna happen to the armor that Alex is wearing. It seems to be part of who he is in Dreamland. When he turns over the kingship to Dan, will he have to relinquish the armor too? What if he decides to stay in Dreamland by going through the portal? Does he keep it? Or does he have to find his favorite selection of clothing and bring it in with him in a suitcase…?
I like how you put that! 🙂 Everyone (except you, Nicole, and me) has been proposing the whole “Alex as King with Dan as his Merlin” concept, but this one is a fairly legitimate idea. Dan as King with Alex as his Knight…or I think someone else once suggested that Alex be his Warlord (since he’s good at being brave and taking action, but not always so good at the ideas). This is more in line with how I’d love for things to play out. 🙂 But we’ll see…
Aaaand here’s the crux of the “Alex should be King” idea. He’s not very good at the whole fore-thought thing. Of these brothers, he’s the Epimethus, and Dan’s the Promethus. I think that Alex could very well grow into a great leader someday, but he’s got a long way to go.
Then again, Dan is too timid to take the throne right now. His kindness (not wanting to take Dreamland away from his brother) is feeding his tendency to over-think things. He hasn’t learned how to be decisive and proactive…weighing both sides of the equation and chosing the best solution, even if it’s not perfect.
I guess neither of them is truly “right” for the throne of Dreamland right now. They still need each other to make the complete “ideal” ruler.
Now THIS is what I think is the viable solution. They’re twins. It may be a technicality of two minutes difference between them, but they were basically born together and grew together. They are the sides of one coin and have the attributes that make a great king only when acting as one. In fact, I think this is why Arthur failed as a king–because he only had some of the attributes he needed and Merlin, rather than providing the contrast, confirmed them.
Dan and Alex rule together, or not at all!
it’s two minutes? I never noticed that. That’s the difference between my brother and me 🙂
I so agree with you. I hope they find a way to make this work, you know?
NOT FIRST! I’ll be interested to see what happens. Of course, by Alex not going to see Dan, it’s going to elongate the search through the Nightmare Realm to find Nasatjia’s parents… but we know where they are! 😉 Just think how much shorter stories would be if people just did the ‘if only I…’ every time. But then… it wouldn’t be as entertaining!
I dunno, this seems to be so very much not the time or place to be having this convo. Kind of plays into the old “women can’t keep focused on mission” stereotype.
I agree with this line of reasoning.
Dan would be a better king by far.
As for Alex… Well Alex almost doesn’t belong in the waking world. He doesn’t have anything there besides Dan and his mom… not really. Everything important to him is in Dreamland.
So they should definitely find that portal that allows physical passage between the waking world and Dreamland and Alex should go thru to be and stay with Nastajia.
Then Dan can be king, and Alex can be a native to Dreamland from then on.
All fixed! ^.^
Agreed. Fighting is such a small part of being king. Most of it is administrating a kingdom and making just decisions. I’m not saying Alex couldn’t grow into that, but I sure as heck don’t think he wants it. He would be amazing as the king’s Captain, running the army, keeping Dreamland’s borders safe, training new knights. It would be perfect for them both.
I have a feeling that armor is designed specifically for Alex and it would be his and his alone. He earned it. 🙂 There would be something uniquiely fitted for Dan.
Relationship talk amidst all those dangers, after a nice fight. Oh, this is so like “Oh, baby, now we ‘ve kicked ’em hard we can talk plainly and straighten out some stuff”! (and get a rest)
That Idea of Alex is not that bad as far as I see .. he just doesn’t know what’s waiting for him. He’s in for a pretty good deal of surprise, eh? Portals for the win.
Yall make ME SICK!!! Dan has never been in dreamland, and is to much of a P*SSY to even pull the sword out of the stone, much less be king. If not for the courage of his brother rubbing off on him, he would not be in any position to even think of being king. Maybe in the real world he can be king, but in Dreamland, ALEX is KING. even as a child in Dreamland, he was more than heroic. A King does not need to know everything, he delegates, and has advisors, Dan is no more than a advisor. He is the merlin Type.
The only way I will accept the throne of Dreamland be taken away from Alex, is if HE is DEAD… Make Dan the King, After Alex is DEAD!!! so when is Alex going to be Killed?
SQUEEEEEEEE!!!!!
Books arrived today. For some reason I was expecting the books to be a little larger, but I don’t care. They look fantastic. And to have the personalized sketches I’m geeking out about it.
Though that would create an interesting dilemma if he could. I mean what happens to his armor when he wakes up? So would walking through the portal be the equivalent of waking/going to sleep? If so and he finds earths version of the portal (which brings up where did the monsters/king/queen emerge on earth) then when he walked through it would he appear at the dreamland portal or were his last sleeping version was? hmmm
What am I, chopped liver? 😉 I know I’m not a regular commenter, but in the comic the other day where there was a bunch of discussion, I was the first to say I thought Dan would make a better king, while Alex a hero (essentially, a knight).
Uh, but there’s a catch. Alex only is a superb fighter in Dreamland because he’s using his dream body. If he gets there in his physical body, his military value will seriously diminish. No more knocking out dragons. No more flying. No more waking up if things get too hairy. So the portal is not a good answer. Arthur’s bracelet could be, but we haven’t heard of it for a long long time.
Maybe send the sword through the portal? Stay on dreamland forever? Though your body would wither away. They’ll think of something; because, if they don’t, I’ll really not like this comic at all.

Hey, first post 🙂

But…… What about the portal that Natasja’as parents got through to come to Earth. Can’t Alex simply USE THE PORTAL?

Alex is a reluctant hero, but all he needs is a push. I see that push coming very soon (how many pages do we have left?)
I agree with this line of reasoning.

Several of us think that will factor in the end, but as of right now, they are not aware that her parents are on Earth.

We’re hoping. But he can’t use it while he’s asleep in the real world, I don’t think.
It might not take longer. This may be the time for Alex to stretch himself and think on his own. He can do it. 🙂

Perhaps love is the strongest magic of all….
Just picture Alex waking up only to find Nastajia next to him?!?!?
Picture his reaction! 😉
Co-regents…I like it, and I agree that it’s the best solution. Now if only Niviene and the gang could come to the same conclusions and make it happen…
Though that would create an interesting dilemma if he could. I mean what happens to his armor when he wakes up? So would walking through the portal be the equivalent of waking/going to sleep? So glad they came in okay! Thank you!

I’m honestly curious. Why do you want Alex to be king so badly, when Alex himself says he doesn’t want to be king? Just wondering.
