Oh come on!
I realize that Alex isn’t as quick on the uptake as Daniel, but still. It took her pointing this out to him – now – for him to realize this? Is he a natural airhead?
Anyway, it’s pretty obvious HOW Alex could be with her – forever – even after relinquishing the sword and crown. Only question is: Will Alex have the opportunity to take advantage of that means?
Dreamland is such a part of him I think he just never REALIZED he could really lose it. Many people never realize that something dear to them can be lost until it is too late. Thanks to her pointing it out, he just got a chance to look at that and realize it BEFORE it is too late. Maybe. Possibly.
With all that’s been going on, I can easily see how Alex would have overlooked this problem until now. Events have been carrying him along since the moment he got back to Dreamland, and he’s just flown along with them. If he isn’t following Nastajia’s plans, he’s either following Dan’s or in the middle of a fight.
This is probably the first time it’s even occurred to him that there is a very real possibility he might lose Nastajia.
Alex isn’t really someone who thinks outside of what is immediately happening, and he’s very used to leaving the planning (And the worrying) to other people. Be interesting to see what he does now…
And what DAN does, if the only choice is between turning down the sword and permanently parting Alex from his love. I can’t see Dan ever hurting Alex like that, regardless of all else, which will be fun for Niviene… 😀
Kind of simple really. There’s an obvious way others can travel from Dreamland to the real world as proven by her parents. In the end she may be the one making the hard choice to join him there or they use that method for him to come to Dreamland.
Oh come one. In real life people get separated due to professional considerations.
Hey Alex, you must renounce to this girlfriend, and look for somebody better.
Don’t get me wrong…I’m a HUGE fan of an Alex/Nastajia relationship. However, I think that this line of thinking…while a VERY important and valid thing to consider before Alex does anything with regards to the throne of Dreamland…is entirely selfish and exceptionally poorly timed (Really Nastajia?? Now???). As such, I’m inclined to think that it’s the “wrong” way to think and act. After all, it’s rare that selfish behavior leads to good things for a hero (see the stories of King David & Bathsheba or Lancelot & Guinivere for further reference on that point).
I love Alex, he is so clueless at times… Now I know this is all down to Scott’s Master plan and He knows where this is going and how this will all end up… Yet I also know he reads and takes into consederation his readers thoughs nd ideas when they can be worked in with out damaging the story… Yet Scott please keep Alex or lovely but reluctant hero as King… I know we will have to wait and see what happens in the future as this is all scripted out already but please please please for the love of Natasha and Alex let him be King….
If the Nightmare Realm enhances your fears – maybe this is just Staj’s fears being amplified. She’s not that selfish that she would willingly sacrifice Dreamland for her own desires.
HOWEVER, I do have to admit that the whole “defy destiny” is always a fun plot thickener.
And if you think about it – why CAN’T Alex be kind? Because a mermaid said so? That’s fishy (bada BING!).
What is Alex? Brave, loyal, proactive. Traits you want in a king, yeah? Especially when you have the Nightmare Realm to fight, dragons (I’m sure Ol’ Nick isn’t gone for good).
What is Daniel? Calculating, slow to react, a born strategist. Isn’t that someone you’d rather have at the war room drawing battle plans? Not leading, but defining the road.
If I was wanting leader ship I would want a strong hand at the throne and a level mind as his general/advisor. Daniel would be Alex’s Merlin, basically.
What do you mean you would have already found it by now? How long have you actually had a chance to look? You’ve only found out about this a day or two ago!
Well at least once they finally find that portal, we can get more going there, but in the meantime we’ll just have to watch them squirm.
I think it is silly logic for Nastajia to think that they would just stumble upon the “solution” all willy-nilly…as IF they would have found a solution by now. Because when I go to buy groceries, when I’m looking for the ketchup and can’t find it, I have to logically assume that I can’t find the milk either…because wouldn’t I have found it already?
They’ve been looking for her parents and the tablets (earlier) this whole time…NOT trying to find a way for Alex to either come to/stay in Dreamland. It just seems silly that she would assume they would have found the solution to this question when they were never looking for it to begin with.
I would imagine ever since Orion told Alex that if he gave up the Amulet in the waking world – as he tried to do with Nicole, so she could meet Felicity – Dreamland would be lost to him forever, Nastajia’s been thinking this over. And possibly having her people research options. Once Niviene started making noises about Alex handing the Sword over to Daniel, she probably started thinking a lot faster. And it comes down to the same thing. They don’t know if the Portal can be made to work, or if her parents destroyed it. All the other possibilities they’ve heard about won’t work in their case, and there doesn’t seem to be any other path between Dreamland and Earth. Of Alex gives up the Sword, it appears he’s gone. So naturally she’s going to fight against that as hard as she can…
I assume someone’s already pointed out that panel 2 on the latest update “should” should probably be “could”? Great comic btw, Just absolutely love the concept, art and story. Keep up the awesome work.
He IS a natural airhead. It will take these grand adventures for him to mature out of that. This is one of the reasons I love Alex…he’s no Aragorn or Prince Caspian. He’s a normal, young guy who has to learn all this stuff. LOVE him for the honesty of his character.
We have to remember how young they both are. Staj is dealing with her first true love, as well. Which can really mess with reasonable thought processes.
Perhaps, but they know about the portal and figure they have to shut it down. It will be really interesting to see what happens when they realize that Staj’s parents are on Earth not in the Nightmare Realm.
Of course not going to Dan now puts off the time when that happens a bit.
Oh for crying out loud! Aurthur already figured out a way, but the process to create an object to allow adults to come to Dreamland was a dangerous one that couldn’t be interrupted once started otherwise he would be lost in oblivion. It requited a caster in his world (Merlin) and one in Dreamland (a Centaur) to do the enchantment. The people from the nightmare realm interrupted by killing the Centaur and attacking Merlin. And because Arthur was lost in oblivion the sword couldn’t declare a new king because technically Arthur wasn’t dead.
When I reliezed he only reliezed the possibility of loseing her forever only just ocured to him now when she pointed it out made me hope she would slap the shit out of him I mean I have been pretty slow on the uptake before myself until it was almost too late but he has had literally days and days and nights to come across this conculsion.
You know. Interesting thought. What if they find the portal and walk through? We know what will happen to her. Just like her parents, she’ll come to Earth. But what about Alex? He is on Earth, asleep. Will he come to Earth in mind as well, and sorta be there twice? Or is that…um…NOT POSSIBLE…;) AKA BAD THINGS happen? 🙂
Personally, I think that Alex should remain King, over Dan. Yeah, Danny-Boy’s really smart, but Alex is smarter than he thinks he is. He’s just so used to being in the intellectual shadow of Dan that he tends to think of himself as stupid. He’s also charismatic, which is an EXCELLENT quality for a ruler. Dan would be perfect as Chief Advisor to his brother, fulfilling Merlyn’s role, though without the mastery of magic. I also think that Dan would prefer such a role, himself. Dan’s a bit too much of a thinker to make a EXCELLENT king; while having intelligance & wisdom are good qualities in a ruler, if you spend TOO MUCH time thinking planning, and intellectualizing matters, then nothing gets done! Alex is far better at decisive action, and modifying his plans to suit the moment, keeping things flexible so he can roll with events as they occur. At least, that’s how I see things here; YMMV.
Of course, they could all be trying to ‘push’ him in the direction of abdicating in favor of Dan to force him to dig in his heels and prove his TRUE worth as King of Dreamland!
I’m a little concerned abut Nastajia’s timing on this. It would have made a lot more sense to have had this discussion before they flew off to the Nightmare Realm. It’s not like her, but then she has been pretty upset after she learned about the last time her parent’s were seen. Of course, the first time Alex manages to wake up and get back to Dan and Nicole, the whole situation will change.
I think the Nightmare Realm is affecting her as well. Yeah it messes with human but I am sure the people in Dreamland get freaked out by it as well.
Also this is the first time he basically says I can’t do it, let me get my brother the “True King”. I bet this conversation has been on her mind for a while and even though this is terrible timing, this is when/where this conversation is going to happen.
I think Scott has said something about this in a comment before. I can’t remember for sure…and I certainly have no clue where to find it (though I’d imagine the best place to start looking would be after the king of Seraphopolis tells them of the portal…maybe even as recent as the page where we see Nastajia’s parents in our world…I dunno :)).
well, idk, you guys have been adventuring around dreamland for the past who-knows-how-long… it isnt like you’ve had time to discover a way to stay together yet!
Oh come on!

and there’s the light bulb turning on.
Umm… I’m pretty thick-headed myself. I find it possible for him to realize it only now. 😛

And the penny drops! 😀

And making Alex think about losing her forever is probably not the most intelligent thing to do in the middle of Detroit.
If Alex kept the sword, defying Niviene…probably be the first time to see her angry!
Then again, how would Niviene look angry?
Kind of simple really. There’s an obvious way others can travel from Dreamland to the real world as proven by her parents. In the end she may be the one making the hard choice to join him there or they use that method for him to come to Dreamland.
Isn’t there that portal thingy? I assume that’s what Staj’s parents used.
Oh come one. In real life people get separated due to professional considerations.

Am I wrong in thinking this?
Heh, I missed seeing this…my thoughts as well 😛

Har!
No. I like your thought process.

eh, Nastajia tends to speak formally and sound very upper crust. “Should” is appropriate from her, if a little awkward in context.
sooo… elf princess joins her parents and boyfriend in real world.
human prince becomes king of drealand along with his ebony queen?
the end?

Hey all!
Page will be up around 8am CST.
Sorry for the slight delay.

Except that he doesn’t want to be king.
Can no one else see the creepy shadow hands behind Alex?
I’m imagining something like this… https://youtu.be/spHEw2n9LwE?t=21s
