Any way I agree with Nat … Alex IS the King of Dreamland, he has the skills to use the sword, he has accomplished a lot in Dreamland and I was actually bummed that you were planning on having Dan become King… Still am… Alex is there he may not be the tactician Dan is, yet I am not sure Dan would be the King as well as Alex…
Wait what? Did I miss something? I don’t recall the sword ever claiming Dan should become king only that he would have had old Nick’s shenanigans not blocked him from coming to dreamland

Dan would make a better king (level headed, can consider big picture things, strategy, planning ahead, etc.). But Alex makes for a better hero (more courage, willing to do what’s right even when it’s hard, etc.).
Love how Nastajia’s eyes are glistening here, especially in the last panel. Just on the verge of tears…
The sum of all nightmares–a conflict of self-confidence, smack dab in the middle of… guess where? Hope one of them comes to that realization before reinforcements arrive.

This would be a good point for Nastajia to break out a Fred Sanford impression: “Think about us, ya big dummy!”
Dreamland needs a wise king to rule it. But… Nastajia and Alexander! Will Alex choose Dreamland over his true love? Or vice versa? :S
“What of us?” This. Seems to me Nastajia’s words sums up the entirety of this comic…
I’m with the people who are thinking, “Really? They’re having this conversation now?”
I also agree with Nastajia on one point…Alex needs to learn how to think for himself, even if he doesn’t stay King of Dreamland. It’s a crucial part of growing up. 🙂
I also also agree with Jay. How appropriate that the self-confidence issue is coming up in the Nightmare Realm. 🙂
Now…this is where I hope that several things start to happen.
1) Alex starts learning to use his own noggin instead of relying on his brother’s.
2) Alex and Nastajia express themselves openly and honestly regarding their relationship, and the hopes surrounding it (though I doubt that Alex has thought very far ahead on that particular point).
3) Alex and Nastajia chose to do what is right for Dreamland…even if that means Alex steps down as king (and I’d like to point out, before I get jumped by the fans who don’t want Dan to be king, that I said “if” to suggest that it may be right for Alex to stick around).
4) Alex and Nastajia are rewarded for their selfless behavior by getting to be together while Dan gets to visit the place he has never before gotten to see (and Nicole too).
So yeah…I kind of have high hopes for where this story is going. 😛
Agreed as far as the Sword has said so far is Alex is the rightful King.

Too bad you can’t just compromise, have Dan be the king of ruling and administration and Alex be the king of kicking butt and taking names. Dan rules in peacetime but when there’s trouble, Alex becomes the war chief.

Things may work out in the end. Right now, these two don’t know that her parents are on earth. So, how about you Naj? Are you willing to give up being Queen of the Elves to be with your true love on earth, if that is the only way to be with him?
My sentiments exactly…. then comes the hard part: “Mom, I’m not going to be around much anymore…”
Repetitive questions: This conversation? Here? Are you seriously not aware of your surroundings. Why can’t Dan be Alex’s “Merlin?”
Repetitive insight: You do have to learn to think for yourself, Alex. Mistype on Alex’s name in last panel.
No matter where this story ends, Alex or Dan being King, it’s the journey that I have enjoyed. My money is on Dan.
Dan would not make a better king, he is one of the red shirt trek guys that die, when the main character lives… and allowing Alex defeat his fears, and then turning him back into a sniveling little girl, is almost unforgivable…
agreed, the sword chose ALEX, not Dan, thus ALEX is king of Dreamland, and if anyone should usurp his crown to give it to Dan, maybe there are some nightmares we can hire to take care of them, permanently.

I’m fascinated that so many readers want Alex to be king when he himself doesn’t want it. He KNOWS it’s 95% administration! Kingship sucks unless you like being an organizer and love the people more than you love yourself.
I still trust the brothers and the ladies to make honorable decisions…and I expect they will be rewarded in suprisingly wonderful ways. 🙂
Agreed. If kingship was all heroism and daring do, Alex might not be so willing to have his brother take the throne. I think we readers don’t want Alex being king so much as we want Alex and Nastajia to be together. If we get that, heck, I wouldn’t care if Paddington was king…

Nah Dan is a blue shirted tek geek who figures things out for the gold shirted leaders (ie Alex) who don’t know anything yet still get everyone together and some how has the skills to lead.
You all need to be reminded of some facts:
1. Alex did get picked as the King and call him the king
2. The sword did in fact pick him (As far as sitting around for a few thousand years until some random kid picks you up but I guess that part is the part that really bothers me and no one else)
3. And the most imporant fact of all: THE CREATOR OF THIS STORY SAID HIMSELF THAT DAN IS THE RIGHTFUL KING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! at that point the discussion is about it is kinda voided don’tcha think?

They’re all fine with me…just love the story. BUT Arthur was king, right? Wasn’t it Lancelot who got the sword from the Lady in the Lake?
