Page 1580…
So apparently…backing out of our Kickstarter is a “thing” now.
Okay.
We’re still making Book Six. And it’s still the most we’ve made in the last 3 years of doing Kickstarters.
So it’s no big deal.
I’m sorry to see so many people go. (we’ve lost over $1,000 in funds in the last 2 weeks).
I have to assume people are going through hard times. And I’m sorry to see this.
I hope all of you who had to cancel bids get a chance to get the books later on. When your finances are better.
And for the rest of you. Thank you for making this such a successful drive!
Scott
Still loving the mechanics of those wings.
…Speaking of, in panel one, shouldn’t wing be plural?
Fly you fools!
But are they STEAM-POWERED wings?
Sorry to hear that people have had to back out of the Kickstarter. We’re still in. 🙂 In some respects indiegogo could be better because it requires the backers to put up the money up front. If the project doesn’t meet the funding goal, all the money is returned to the backers as long as it wasn’t set up as a “Flexible Funding” project. But, I suspect that indiegogo may not have the exposure that Kickstarter has had expecially recently.
I’ll post again on my Facebook and G+ pages and on a forum where I’m a moderator if they allow me. Hopefully, it will draw some more people to the project.
Fellow Dreamlanders, we’re now #7 ! 🙂 Don’t forget to vote: http://topwebcomics.com/vote/4274/default.aspx
Sounds like you got bid hacked :/
What the heck?! That’s so low. D: I hope kickstarter has a way to punish people who backout of projects without good reason. To me, pledging should be as binding as bidding on E-bay D:!!! Grr, that seriously irks me >(…
Shouldn’t it be wings with an esssss….? 🙂
_Magic_ steam.
With her saying “wing”, and the last frame only showing one of Alex’s wings, I thought one broke off in yesterday’s hug! And, then they just were going to let him fly off like that! But, the first frame shows two wings, if you look for it.
Sorry to hear about the with-drawers.
Is the current amount reflected on this page?
Whoa – people pulling out of a Kickstarter Project? I can see why they might have legitimate reasons, but it’s still got to be unsettling for everyone else who is staying in – and you especially Scott. I’m glad you still have enough to get the books out, and a bit more.
They take to the sky! Now things will get more interesting!!! 🙂
My guess is that the other one serves a different purpose.
Oh, wait…
Wow. That stinks & makes me a tad bit angry. I hope they apologized all over the place for backing out on you, Scott. If you don’t think you can afford to pledge, you don’t pledge. I, on the other hand, am totally in the throes of procrastination….. lol!!
And do love today’s page. The wings are beautiful. 😀
*scratching head* weird…. What part of “pledged” do people not understand. Or are there pavlov-clickers that just “pledge” for sh* and giggles?
‘C mon, we are not talking hundreds of Dollars here.. Yes, I understand there are some Kickstarter things that got it a bad rap in no-time short, but we are talking the amount of money one easily spends for burgers for four… And You’ll be spared heart-burn, and get a book! Something that can give entertainment for years to come.
Then again, maybe my conceptof “hard times” is a bit off…
I’m guessing it was people who wanted to get the poster and when they saw we weren’t going to make it bailed out. Poor fools don’t know a good deal when they see it.
Anyways, I’m not going anywhere…. 🙂
Seventh schmeventh! 🙂 We’re in 6th as of my vote!
That’s truly unfortunate that some people had to back out of their pledges. 🙁 I hope that all of them are doing okay and not dealing with truly terrible unexpected situations (like loss of job or unplanned medical expenses).
I’m going to miss being in Seraphopolis. That city was full of pretty things (colors…architecture…people…wings…) and I somehow doubt that the Nightmare Realm is going to be pleasant to view. 🙁
That’s a bummer about the pledgers backing out. I tried to figure out how I coudl give, but sadly with three hungry hippos .. er, I mean boys … homeschooling, one full income, etc etc etc it’s hard financially. We really wanted to give too. My boys would have LOVED to get these books. My eldest will be 7 and would have been a great birthday present!
Good luck, Scott!
Shouldn’t he be saying ‘wings’, not, ‘wing’? And why do they need wings if Alexander can already fly?
I had to up my pledge, because I REALLY wanted a Paddington plush.
Last panel looks like one of those sequential take-offs for one person, but there are four different characters.
Question: How do they keep their legs up in the air in a horizontal fashion? Gotta have a strong back to keep them up with the wings supporting the torso/chest, etc.
I assume that wing is the name given to the device.
The ability to fly in Dreamland has its limits (vertical limits: for humans, nightmare realm flying beasties, and fairies) unless you have specially designed wings made specifically for travel in and around Seraphopolis. Remember, it’s not quite part of Dreamland, meaning that many of the rules/laws that apply in Dreamland are not applicable in said “Realm.”
If I’m wrong, someone please correct me.
As a fairly frequent Kickstarter supporter, I’ve seen this before. A certain percentage will have second thoughts and withdraw before the time is up. While it can be discouraging, it usually doesn’t make a difference in the long run.
Personally, I’ve had to withdraw two times in the last year, due to overcommitments or unexpected expenses. So some withdrawals are for serious reasons. But bottom line, there will always be an ebb and flow to the Kickstarter projects and one should be prepared for it. The good news is there is usually a surge during the last 2 days, as people that starred it get reminded of it and do their pledges.
Well dang, sorry to hear that people have backed out of Kickstarter. I’m glad you still have more than enough to get the books out.
actually I’ve had to back out of bids I made this summer after I lost my job. Scott’s attitude toward those who backed out is nothing less than what I would have expected, 100% class act.
(ps I’m not a bid backer outer, I chose not to back rather than risk backing out again, but I’ll be buying the book when it comes out.)
Thank you all!
1) It was SUPPOSED to be WingS. I’ve fixed it.
Thanks.
2) The Kickstarter thing. It’s all good. While I would have loved to see the Frank Cho poster get out to everyone for FREE… I’m STILL thrilled that we’ve almost DOUBLED our goal of $8,500.
When I look at the projects that make hundreds of thousands and even millions of dollars on Kickstarter… it’s quite easy to lose perspective on why I’m really there.
I just want a way to be able to allow you all to pre-order the book without the expense of pre-printing the run.
Mission accomplished… times THREE!
This is three years now that we’ve successfully done this.
The extra stuff is great. But… in the end… unnecessary.
I’m happy that 200+ of my readers are willing to pre-order through Kickstarter to help get each book out.
This is what’s important. And this is what I’m thankful for.
We’ll find another way to get the Nicodemus plush. The postcards. The Frank Cho poster. And more to you.
It’ll happen. But let’s not minimize the fact that we’ve had our third successful Kickstarter. That’s something pretty darn cool.
Win!
Yeah, like Charles says, you can’t blame people for circumstance changes. I just ended up with a $320 vet visit today that was unexpected. People have their reasons and if something comes up that has higher priority than a graphic novel, they have every right to pull out. I imagine that just part of the cost of doing business.
I had the exact same thing happen to me – a $300 emergency bill and a $500 loan for the rest. I think I can stay in, though. I’m sure gonna try.
Still envious.
Frank Cho.
Brandy.
’nuff said.
😉
Just, uh, hold your breath or something… Cuz we’re at airplane level.
