Page 1554…
I hope you enjoyed this week’s pages! Can you believe we’re almost halfway through this chapter already?
Yikes!
I also wanted to thank you for an amazing week for our Kickstarter Drive!
We kind of stalled yesterday, though. We could have met our initial goal in the first week.
But we didn’t.
Hmph.
🙂
I’m already working on the next painting. Alexander.
Take a look at the updates when you can to see it.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Scott
Would send a whole army to the nightmare realm? Perhaps this is why no messenger was sent.
Day’s not over, Scott. I wouldn’t be surprised if we hit the first goal by midnight.
“… if I had known”, not “if had known”! Also, am I going crazy, or do the colors on ‘stag look a little pale lately, especially the eyes? Or maybe it’s the bright lighting in the place. I love the passion we see in today’s page though!!
I love it when Nastajia talks dirty….
And how many would die in the attempt? Emotions cloud judgement. More often than not, they lead down destructive paths. At the same time, some of these paths are worth the effort.
I think we’ve all guessed what the egyptian girl will say “This is exactly why we didn’t say it to you” or alike.
That bow string bends in mid-air again. Guess I’ll never get used to this elven magic.
Anyway, TWC.

#6: 6,154 <= us, and we're catching up!

Please vote, fellow Readers. And please keep voting through the weekend.
The entire Ashendel army to Nightmare Realm? That doesn’t sound good…
Regardless, Nastajia still has a point. Why didn’t they stop them? Why didn’t they send any word of their fate?
Perhaps sending Ashendel troops into the Nightmare Realm would have sparked a war between Dreamland and the Nightmare Realm, and they wanted to prevent that. Although, considering how tight Nico was with Abbadon, it might just have led Nico to lead all of Dreamland against Ashendel and wiped out the elves, which they would also want to prevent.
in a word? Nicodemus.
Okay, two words: Nicodemus, DUH.
Um…hey…has anyone asked, “Where’s Alex’s cousin Joey during all of this?”
“Will the others bring Felicity back to reality?”
One does not simply march into the Nightmare Realm. It’s Dark Borders are guarded by more than just wraiths. There is an evil there that does not sleep, and the Lord Abaddon is ever watchful. It is a barren wasteland, riddled with fire, and ash and dust. The very air you breath is a poisonous fume. Not with ten thousand elves could you do this. It is folly!
Why is Staj’s hair grey?
A detail to look at – Alexander’s reaction. Standing back, eyes wide, hands open… I don’t think he expected this.
This is one of those moments that could be key to their relationship. Is he going to step in, try to say the right thing? Is he going to back her up? Is he going to try to mediate the situation? Is he going to let Nastajia vent, and only step in after she’s cooled down a little? Is he going to hold back for fear of saying the wrong thing?
This could be one of those moments that defines their relationship, what kind of partnership they’re building together.
This is the awesome responsibility Scott has taken on in telling us their story. Authors like to live dangerously!
You win an internet. 🙂
She says, “…if had known” in the last panel. Shouldn’t it be, “if I had known”?
seconded
And this should be the time that someone reminds Nastajia that she answers to those people of Ashendel. How would charging off into the unknown help her people? If she’s really lucky, they get a King and Queen back. If she’s just a little lucky, they get their Princess/Queen back. If she’s foolish (which she’s looking to be right now), they lose the entire royal family…and who will lead their kingdom then?
And seriously Nastajia?? You would have led the entire kingdom to war with the Nightmare Realm? Have you thought about the chances of surviving such a war? There might not have been an Ashendel left for Alex to find when he stumbled across the sword necklace again. Poor thing…emotions have gotten the best of her.
Fixed. Thank you.
Love!
I think the color’s just washed out because of the intensity of sunlight at that altitude. I’ve noticed it since they got here.
Still, the girl’s got a valid point. Why didn’t they tell anyone of her parent’s danger? They better have a good excuse.
It’s Sofia in the barn all over again.
Poor Staj. Blinded by the loss of her parents. But how much are you willing to bet that if she had charged off in a blind rage, Nic would have taken over the whole kingdom, and allowed those pirates to kidnap any child that got in his way.
Not to mention, but do we know the exact time her parents left? They were there when Alex was a kid, right? Who’s to say they didn’t disappear when Staj was still a kid after Alex stopped coming to Dreamland? It would have been better for a young princess to move on and think about her new responsibility as ruler than to let the city fall to ashes because she knew her parents were still alive somewhere and focused her attention on finding them or sending people to find them.
She’s fighting for Home, Hearth and Family…
Who wouldn’t follow that path: O’hana: No one gets left behind!
The Nightmare realm wouldn’t listen to reason of her parents;
now they may need to listen to reason of steel.
Halfway through the chapter? Wow, it feels like we just started. I really hope that it’s Alex who explains everything, a great source of character development.
you just made my day!
As awesome as that is, I now can’t help but think of this:

I feel for Staj though, that’s got to be really frustrating to say the least. Also, last panel is AWESOME! “I’m clenching my fist, people, I’M CLENCHING MY FIST!!!” ^_^
Well, according to one of the “filler” pages a couple of days ago, the Nightmare Realm got the Seraphopolis portal 2 years ago. I don’t know how long Nastajia’s parents had been gone from Ashendel when Nicodemus caught them, but it seems like it can’t have been too terribly long…but then again, her statement of how she thought her parents were dead for “years” makes it seem even longer than that.
You pose a good question Mythic!
._. OMG pissed elf…not good….
On another note, this is getting EPIC! 😀
Well, I doubt all the Elves would be enough, or they would have won back in ol’ Arthur’s day. Also, the images made me grinz. That was one of the first handful of webcomics I stumbled across. Was a funny thing. :}
I love the way the light is reflecting off her eyes in the last panel. It makes it look like there’s literally a fire burning brightly in them. ^_^
Yes!
…do you mean the bow string that’s going over her armor?
No Logan and Brendan in the Kickstarter video makes me sad. 🙁
Yes. It somehow bends once again near N’s earring, without no visible obstacle that could cause this.
Have you voted on TWC today?

This has been confusing me as well.
I know…sigh. Me too.
I’m going to put them up as bloopers.
Before I clicked your link, I thought it might be http://www.justsaypictures.com/images/one-does-not-simply-rock-into-mordor.jpg 😉
Wow… I just read this comic all the way through. I was horrified when I got here and there WAS NO next page.
Aaaaand, my avatar is a shirtless dude. Doesn’t represent me well. XD
Welcome Alice! I hope you enjoyed the story so far!
Render glitch!
Will post the new page in the morning after I drop boys off for school.
Ah, that brings back memories. Good times, good times. ^_^
I like glitches. Glitches are cool.
No, wait – I’m thinking of bow ties. And fezzes. Never mind! ^_^
Thanks! I’m loving it. 🙂
Awesome!
My pleasure, keep up the awesome work! 🙂
annnnnnd in one panel, Nev has a contender for the title of ‘I’m right because I say I am’. Way to go Naj, you fight for that crown!
All joking aside, if Naj’s parents were even half has stubborn as their daughter, no way anyone could have swayed them to stay. If the knowledge they were leaving to battle in a deadly place with no weapons or armies and leaving behind their own child wasn’t enough to make them pause and go ‘hmmmmm…maybe this can be handled differently’ there were likely no words to make them stop before leaving to restore their ‘honor’.
However I am definitely seeing where the good princess gets her attitude from in spades.
And what could the entirety of Ashendel possibly achieve? The nations of Dreamland know little of war, peaceful and idyllic as they have been for so many generations. What could they possibly hope to pull off in a realm where pain and torment are the norm?
