Page 1531…
Well… most of you guess what was coming next.
🙂
I love you guys.
Yes. Egyptians worshiped cats.
So I wondered what they would do in the presence of an actual Cat-Girl.
Then, I wondered what Felicity would do surrounded by a bunch of hunky men who worshiped her.
Enjoy
Scott
First – I didn’t guess.
http://www.future-perfect.co.uk/grammartips/grammar-tip-worshipped-worshiped.asp
Worshipped has two p’s! 😉
Not according to my computer. I typed in two ‘p’s’ and it corrected me.
Strange.
It’s UK vs. US, I believe. In the UK, the rule is what the link says. In the US, you only double the letter if the root word is one syllable, with one vowel and one final consonant.
tomato tamoto
Let’s call the whole thing off.
ShinyHappyGoth wins a cookie for pinpointing exactly why there was a difference AND an extra cookie for knowing the US spelling rule! 😀
I missed the late update from yesterday, so this was the first page I saw…I didn’t get a chance to guess. 🙂 But it’s still hilarious. Felicity is a handful sometimes!
Both spelling according to “Concise Oxford English Dictionary”:
verb (worships, worshipping, worshipped; US also worships, worshiping, worshiped)
Of course, the US spelling is wrong :p
I love Felicity sometimes.
These Egyptians are a bit too chocolaty, and their skin that sparkle on the sun.
Day: made.
Interesting how it was the queen of Seraphopolis who yesterday referred to this as barbaric. Jealous much?
Ya know Scott, you didn’t have to do all that wondering… I could have told you exactly what would have happened. 🙂
This is how any cat would behave in this situation. Come to think of it, this is how any cat does behave in any situation! 😀
Felicity, you are so awesome. 😀
Oh, my . . . her TAIL! Curling just like a super happy kitty. As always, Scott, the details are extraordinary.
Naturally. American English has always had a history of stalking other languages into dark alleys, and mugging them. The loot it picks up tends to get damaged in the process.
Yaaaay, cookies!
I guess being humble isn’t Felicity’s long suit.
Oh Felicity…. Taking full advantage of the treatment/attention… lol
Also her hat looks like its about the fall off in the last panel… so not the most gracefully elegant seeming of kitties.. lol
Unlike C3P0, Felicity knows how to respond correctly when asked “Are you a god(dess)?” 🙂
“…you say YES!”
also, don’t cross the st… dreams!
I like my color without the u, thank you very much 🙂
Oh Felicity. XD She seems to be enjoying herself there.
Hahaha XD;. Oh man, I had guessed it was Alex getting into some sort of trouble, this is much more interesting ^_^;.
Nothing as hilarious as a goddess who can’t keep a simple hat on her head.
lol. I feared the worst. Cats always think they are gods.
And, when I’m driving, I never, ever put anything in my boot!
Yep. Cats think they are gods. But they have to be careful–sometimes those who take the god’s part are required to act as a god…
Yay! Top WebComics #2!!!!
Except your feet…your socks…
But if we call the whole thing off, then we must part!
Putting something around your boot is much worse. It could roll under your break pedal and cause an accident.
I have not seen an object remain on a cat’s head for very long. A collar or harness will stick but a loose unstrapped hat will not.
Cats were once worshiped by the Egyptians. The problem is, cats have never forgotten this.
Dogs have owners; cats have staff.
About time she had something nice happen to her for a change.
I was thinking the same thing!
Also, Felicity is as awesome as ever. The sly look on her face in that last panel is too funny. And finally, I can TOTALLY imagine my brothers cat Sky acting the exact same way if she were a cat woman. Cats I tells ya… ^-^
She’s got too much sass to have room for being humble. 🙂
Thanks for reminding me to vote! 🙂
Yay #2 indeed!
They’re going to have to spritz her with a water bottle for hours to calm her down after this. 🙂
No wonder Kiwi, Nas, and Paddington were upset yesterday.
True. And good luck getting all that shiny jewelry back from her.
I wondered where she was in the last page. I definitely didn’t expect this!
Congrats, have some yaoi
I love this page : D
There are no words for how awesome this page is! This is why I love reading this comic. For gems like that.
Felicity. XD She’s absolutely adorable.
kind of had a feeling it was going this way.
Looks like Felicity will be impossible to live with! Let’s hope Nicole can bring her back to reality…! 😉
This can’t end well…
Actually, the ancient Egyptians that we THINK of as Egyptian were Africans. The lighter skin tones that dominate Egypt now is a result of the Arab conquest of Egypt and over a thousand years of follow-up work to drive the African influence out of North Africa. Scott actually got it historically right in this case. 😉
Pure Win.
I for one, am a bit relieved. I was guessing worship or caught for theft, and punishment for stealing in ancient Egypt was often cutting off the culprit’s hands! eep…
wasnt there a huge influx of Greeks and Romans too (Ie,. alexander and then Julius Caesar)
If I recall correctly, Alexander was mid 300s BC, and the Romans showed up in the first century BC. Egypt’s high point was well before this. I think the big pyramids near Cairo were built in the 2000s BC.
There was a discussion about Egyptians and race on one of the last pages of chapter 17 or early chapter 18. Reviewing that may provide a more precise answer than I can here.
Yeah, Cleopatra was a descendant of Alexander, and some historians believe she was a redhead.
Now THAT’s a cat! All about PURRrrRRrrRRrrRRRrrrRRrrRRrrRRrrRRrrRRrrRRrrRRrrRRrrRR
I wonder why Paddington said that he can’t watch… what are they going to do to her?
Good point. Yes, the Greeks and Romans did their fair (ahem) share of oat sowing in Egypt as well. 😉
I wonder if Felicity knows that cats were mummified along with their “people”…
I can’t help but wonder if Felicity will manage to “cure” them of their fondness for the old ways. Too funny.
And that is “Brake Pedal”, If your car had a break pedal, perhaps it would cause you to stop and have a cup of tea or coffee every time you depress it. Depressing isn’t it. Always someone to correct your English spelling.
TWC status update.
#1: 9,704
#2: 7,321 <= still us
#3: 7,112
If you're reading this, vote right now. If you’re not, still do.
It’s all fun and games until the kitty realizes these guys are birdies.
no new page today??
Almost done.
Even worse, what if the break pedal caused something on the car to break. That could get expensive to use very fast…
It still looks totally wrong without a second ‘p’, and I’m from the US. What software does he have that it corrects double-‘p’ to single-‘p’ in that instance, I wonder..? MS Word doesn’t care either way, it seems, so why would any other software dictionary force the user to spell it with a single ‘p’…?
Oh, dear, that would be… not so good. Although I’ve had cats end up terrified of hamsters and not attack them, and Felicity’s part person, so I’d say she could probably control herself. I hope.
Yay! This is what’s getting me through my final exams and prepping to move. I reward myself with re-reading, and by golly it’s working. 😀 Thanks for posting as often as you do!
No rush. Give Felicity more time to enjoy herself. She deserves it.
I don’t know if I’d go so far as to say she deserves it, but it’s certainly entertaining. 🙂
To annoy the UK folks, of course. That’s what the whole ‘American English’ thing was invented for in the first place. 🙂
Thanks. The render last night, I forgot to add the sky. Which screws up Alexander and Nastajia’s armor reflection.
I’m just waiting for one last bit to render.
It’s because we’re secretly jealous of their accents.
🙂
Or what Bast, one of the Egyptian cat goddesses, represented 😉
the sky is falling
“Worshiped” looks like the past tense of “worshipe.” The general rule I’ve always been told and acknowledged was if it was a single consonant followed by -ed it meant the root word had an e at the end. E.g.- hopped vs hoped.
I beg to differ.
True, true! 😉
Without the “u”, it sounds more akin to something you wear around your neck.
Cleopatra did this too
