augh my first reply was messed up should said i am betting they dan will be able to go into dreamland thru the portal ,alex could have set the portal to stay on alex;s home lake near his home and maybe be able to transport to the tree in france.
Welcome back, Merlin!”
*coughs* *spits* “…had a damn nest in my throat the past hundred years…who the hell are you?”
“Umm…WE are Arthur’s descendants…and I have been talking to your girlfriend, so…we came to wake you.”
“Pull the other one, there’s bells attached.”
Brr after seeing all that grass and the plethora of leaves, I wonder if Scott’s PC survived that render-task.. smoke must have poured out of it… But the results are rather splendid.
In every tale that Vivienne/Nimue/Ninniene/Niviene whatever seals away Merlin in a Tree/Crystal Cave, it’s pretty much clear she’s doing it because she seduced him to steal his power. It’s a very sexist tale, usually, unless you listen to Marion Bradley, in which case its reverse-sexist and stupidly reconstructionistic with Atlantean and Wicca elements.
But… I guess I could complain about a lot more of poor Arthurian lore used in this comic, but that would defeat the point. Arthur was a British warchief, but he was also a Welsh God. The stories have become so muddled by now that to say one story is more “canonical” than another is just silly. I’ve decided to take my Arthur geek worries elsewhere: even if Dreamland Chronicles plays very lightly with Arthurian stories, it does it in a fun and enjoyable way that takes a new and different spin on the legend. And harkens to a something I’m sure is very personal for Scott Christian Sava. We’re all entitled to that personal dream. So I’m interested in seeing where he’ll take this.
Maybe Alex could go back and use that dream pouch to smuggle something of great value- a necklace or something- out of dreamland and they could sell it to buy tickets…
anyway, great job on this, it’s beautiful!
Thank you.
I have always been fascinated by Arthurian tales. But never studied them.
I am doing my best to cobble together the bits and pieces I can use for my story. But I would never claim to be knowledgeable in the lore.
Purely a fan from a distance.
I am always delighted when true scholars/hardcore fans/geeks of the lore come by and can appreciate Dreamland’s Arthurian ties for what it is. Pure fun and wonderment.
It’s not clear how wealthy the Carter’s (or Nicole’s family, for that matter) are. Three airfares to France might not be beyond their abilities. And I see little reason to assume Dan, Nicole, and Alex would have trouble getting passports and visas. It MIGHT be possible.
Right now, I’m taking a course on the historical King Arthur. I never was really into the Arthurian legends until they started showing up in Dreamland, and I’m having a blast. So, thank YOU for getting me interested!!
Huh…when I loaded this site today it was formatted weird and left-justified instead of centered like normal. 🙁
As for the page…it’s good, but I’m excited for more discoveries! I want to see them look into Dreamland! I want to see if they can travel to France and awaken Merlin! I want to know if Kiwi, Paddington, and Felicity are okay! 😀
Hey heads up Scott your web page might have some problems. My computer security blocked 4 infection attacks the second I came here. I can post or email you more info if you need it.
I just think of Arthur I of Brittany, who was heir of Richard I Lion-Hearted. The time fits better, and in an alternate plane, with magic and suchlike, it’s plausible.
The Arthurian legends did have strong ties to Gaul/France. Vortimer came from there to defeat Vortigern, as did Lancelot du Lac, and other lesser knights. One version even has Arthur crossing over to fight the Roman Empire, and being betrayed and dying/being wounded there. And certainly about Arthur’s era, many Britons fled Great Britain to settle in Brittany, giving it its language, culture, and name.
Thank you.
I was just told the name of the site and I’ve blocked it.

I’m not, not really. the Historical and the Legends are very separate. VERY. I’ve always like history, and the history behind stories and legends, but probably wouldn’t have looked twice at anything King Arthur related until It started coming up in dreamland and I realized I wanted to know more. The class is very fun, and I’m loving it.
I don’t think that would work; I believe it’s been established that the pouch and the parchment in it are a matched set, so nothing other than the parchment can be transported by way of the pouch.
I dunno about that. I love to examine works critically, but that doesn’t mean I still don’t love them in the end, even after I critique them. Maybe it sounds like bashing to other people, but to me, it’s recognising faults and accepting them and the story for what it is.
I love Dreamland Chronicles. I could critique it all day, but as Scott said, he’s not really an Arthurian scholar. And that’s okay. That’s not the point. It’s a good story, and if it uses Arthurian lore in a way to drive the plot, that’s cool too.
i say they will go to sleep or awaken merlin

There is a chance of them going to France. A fat one.

Wow, you’re such a good artist!
Have you thought about rendering a Dreamland page in watercolor for fun?
Yes, yes it would be Dan. Every college student is honor bound to that overseas trip are they not?
The sleeper must awaken! (ack can’t pass up a good Dune reference when it is right there in front of me!)
I doubt that they’ll go to France! Probably can’t afford it!
“We never knew why she did it” ???

Thank you. I have thought about it.
Maybe one day I’ll give it a try.

I don’t understand why France, it’s the first time that the country is mentioned in the story.
I thought the tree was just near.

Mine blocked a threat as well, Blackhole.exploit I believe it was. I suspect one of your ad rotators has gotten an infected ad.
NOT Arthur’s descendants, but Arthur’s Heir Apparent.

NEVER make the mistake of examining a story you love. It is the surest way to take the mystery out of it.

You could render it in watercolor, and then include it on a wall somewhere as art, bringing the whole thing full circle? 😉
ok, thanks for the clarifications. My memory tends to wipe some details.
I don’t think that would work; I believe it’s been established that the pouch and the parchment in it are a matched set, so nothing other than the parchment can be transported by way of the pouch.

Lol, they walk up to the pond that night, and Paddington’s smiling face is taking up the whole thing 🙂
